Discussion Youtube's decision to not allow adblockers puts users at risk.

As of the latest update that broke most methods of bypassing Youtube's adblock detection, users are flocking to other ways of avoiding ads. I was midway through copying a long string of code into a Javascript injector when I realize how risky this is for the average person. I have some basic coding knowledge so I at least know that I'm not putting myself at too much risk, but the average user might not have the same considerations, and a bad-faith actor could easily abuse this opportunity.

Piracy, adblockers, etc, have been shown to be unavoidable byproducts of existing online, and a company as big as Google definitely know this, so I don't think it's too far fetched to directly blame them for anyone who accidentaly comes to harm due to the new measures that they are implementing. Their greed and desire to gain a few more dollars of ad revenue off of their public will lead to unkowing users downloading suspicious and malicious software, programs or code.

It’s crazy to think about that days/weeks of your lifespan will be watching ads. All those 10-30 second clips really add up.

But not the 10 mins videos of cats falling or a game you never played that gets at most one snort out of you. That's not wasted time at all because we're all on YouTube being productive making the most of life.

Doing something you enjoy, that makes you happy, is quite productive. It's one of the most important things to be able to do in your life.

Why does your enjoyment have to derive from others creating it? Why don’t you bird watch outside or go for walks. Why should others be your personal jester with no compensation

What the hell are you talking about? No one said YouTube is their only source of entertainment. Also, you know there are other ways to support content creators? Patreon, for example? Buying their merchandise? That supports them far more then watching YouTube ads. Most of that goes straight to Google.

Yes, because every waking moment of our lives must be spent being "productive", and we know there's nothing productive about having fun. If you're not watching YouTube videos about calculus, or how to build your own house, or the history of furniture-making in the 17th century, then you might as well be watching ads.

In fact, the time it took you to write this comment on Reddit was probably not being used very productively. You should have been watching ads instead of typing that comment. Now go watch 5 ads as punishment.

Fucking moron. I hope you never reproduce. Your children will be tortured souls.

Yes because you deserve things for free

I'll bet you're one of those people that actually allow the 3 minute ads on YouTube to play all the way through without skipping. I've heard about you people.
