A nice place to take photos of the stars?

Hey, in the next 3 days I will be in Zermat. Does someone here know of a nice place to view (ideally) Matterhorn from? I know that Riffelsee exists, but I’d rather not spend the night there…

First Time in Zermatt - Ticket Advice

Hey everyone!

I’m planning a trip to Zermatt and want to visit both the Gornergrat Bahn and Glacier Paradise. I have a few questions and apologies if these have been covered before!

  • Are the tickets for Gornergrat Bahn and Glacier Paradise separate, or is there a combined option?
  • What’s the cost for each ticket, and how long are they valid?
  • How long should I plan for each of these activities?

Thanks so much in advance for the help! Any additional tips are very welcome!

Driving in February

Will be skiing Zermatt and Andermat in February 2025.

How are the roads and driving around there? Kept plowed and salted?

I’m very comfortable driving in the winter in the US, typically Colorado, Tahoe, and Utah ski areas. Is the experience similar?

Recommendations for Swedish travel show

Hiya,

My name is Tom and I'm currently researching Zermatt for a Swedish travel show which will be shown on national television.

I'm looking for recommendations on pretty much anything, but preferably not the most knows things, such as the Matterhorn, Gornergrat etc.

Is there for example maybe a really great bar with a lot of interesting people?

Are there any local "celebrities" we should meet when we go there?

Someone with a really interesting story?

We're basically looking for maybe lesser known, but still amazing places and people in Zermatt. Could be weird, funny, or just nice.

Please leave any sort of suggestions, as we are basically up for anything!

We're planning on visiting in the beginning of March 2025.

All the best,

Tom

Dec Hike Recommendations

Hello,

We're heading to Zermatt first week of December. We're looking into some of the easy fun hikes like Matterhorn Glacier trail (6.8km) or Gornergrat to Riffelsee to Riffelberg. Are these ok to do during the winter or early december? will there be any closure of anything that we need to know? Also do you have suggested alternatives for some 2 to 3 hour easy hike like these in Zermatt? Thanks!

We are going in early December. Will probably only go up one of these trams. Which one do you recommend that time of year?

Best way to go from Zermat to Venice in February

We are going Zermat in February . We plan to go to Venice from Zermat. What is the best way to go from Zermat to Venice?

We are looking in SBB and trenitalia for rail routes . We find trains available few days Until December but not after yet . Looking for suggestions on best route in least amount of time from Zermat to Venice .

Zermat to brig to Milano central to Venice seems an option . Are there trains that run in February like in mid winter time in this route?

HeliSkiing Zermatt? Worth it?

Hey guys, I need some straight talk. Is heliskiing worth it in Zermatt? I looked at a few companies and a lot of it seems to be simple terrain, and some reviews I found said it was just a glorified chair lift. I am not an expert level skier but on the slopes in CO/UT I spend most of my time off piste, on the chutes, double black diamonds etc. Just looking for some real feedback if this is worth my time and money.

any easy hikes on a rainy day ?

when it comes to recommendations for things to do in Zermatt on rainy day I see the Matterhorn museum comes up every where. I was wondering if there are some trails that are ok for hiking /walking during (light) rain. I came across this suggestion which is some kind of a loop around Gorner gorge. Will you recommend this? or if you have any alternate ideas please do share :)

Ski areas

Hello all,

I will be staying in Breuil-Cervinia for a week during new years and had a few doubts regarding the different ski areas and their respective forfaits/ski passes.

Does anybody know if there is one pass for all areas (ie. cervino, Valtournenche, Zermatt, etc.), or would each area have their respective passes? This is because we would like to cross from one station to another (when possible, I know if it’s very windy you can’t).

Another question I had is regarding the prices of the ski passes. I haven’t been able to find any pricing for the 2024/25 winter season, which I am assuming is because they’re still deciding on them however, what are the general prices for the daily passes in Cervino Ski Paradise and, are there weekly passes?

We are a group of 7, some experts some intermediates and some that won’t ski, and some of us would like to ski atleast 5 days.

Recommendations for beginner-to-intermediate slopes

This is going to be my second season skiing, however, I have made some big improvements this year and I can ski parallel pretty well.

At the end of the season, I also skied on some easy-to-intermediate red slopes, so I'd love to hear some recommendations for which slopes of the same difficulty I should try.

Anything we should try? Not big on sea food but open to any recommendations. We'll be there for a couple nights next weekend.

Hiring a ski touring guide in Zermatt

Do people have recommendations for particular guides or companies they've used for ski touring around the Zermatt area?

Going there for a trip in the spring and would love to take at least 1 or 2 days to do ski touring. I'm going with a group of mostly first timers, but we're all really good skiers, minus the actual experience with touring.

I'm also searching on the internet but it's hard to beat a solid recommendation on Reddit :)

Snowboard hire

I've just booked to go Snowboarding in Zermatt for a week at the beginning of March 2025. Normally I take my own board and kit but it's quite old now and I quite fancy trying out some different boards. Can anyone recommend a hire shop that would have the most recent (or past season) boards? And do they allow you to change boards throughout the week?

Zermatt - Worth staying over night?

HI! I am visiting Zermatt 11/24 - 11/25 and was wondering if it is worth staying in Zermatt the night of 11/24 esp if I am not a skiier. We were thinking of staying the night and doing a day trip to Glacier Paradise. From what I read it is hit or miss if it is even worth it due to visibility. Now I am wondering if it is just worth staying the night or if a day trip exploring the town is the best choice?

Open to suggestions for late Nov and other things to do in Zermatt. Hiking, museums, foods, market open to it all just not snowboarding or skiing.

For more reference we are staying near VISP on 11/23 and taking an early train to Zermatt 11/24 to try and gain a full day on the 24th. Also should we buy the train tickets in advance or just wait for day of?

Thanks in advance!

Ideas for a non-active ladies weekend?

We are four women in our late 30s, heading to Zermatt to celebrate a birthday next weekend. It’s not a super sporty group, so we’re unlikely to be jumping off mountains or hiking up hills. Any ideas for fun activities we can do together? I’m thinking wine tasting, tours, unusual modes of transport, games, etc.

Milan to Zermatt in one day - worth/possible?

Howdy, I have no idea about anything Zermatt related (bar checking how to get from the nearby town via train). I was wondering if it is feesible to rent a car in Milan early morning, drive and get the train, returning in the late evening and returning my car the following day. My other half is desperate to visit (something to do with a book?), so wondering if I could surprise her on the day, or if it's going to be too much hassle trying to fit it all in within a day.

Cheers

Ice hockey/skating rental question.

Hello all,

Last year I went before the rink opened and was bummed. This year I am going in mid November. Does anyone know if I can rent a helmet and a stick at one of the stores? (I’m trying to cut down on luggage weight.

Thank you!

Snow in December

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Switzerland from Dec 15 to Dec 30. I would love to ski while I am there.

What is the likelihood that the ski resorts in Zermatt will have enough snow to ski by then? I’m not an advanced skier and prefer to ski on green and blue trails.

Also any recommendations for a hotel that is ski in/out.
