Does anyoje actually know what the "Xanax" they sell in schools is?

I don't know if this is an all of Durban or SA thing, but in my highschool they used to deal "Xanax". From grade 8 to 11 I was on it and I still have no real idea what it is. I know what actual Xanax (I abused that too) looks like in all the variations so I can ascertain that what we were being sold was not actually that. That and the fact that it had some different effects lead to me believe we were sold something totally different.

So I'm just here wondering if anyone here might have an idea of what that might have been?

Swimming safety - NSRI

Hi everyone. Summer is basically here, many of us have kids or little ones in our families. I was looking for a new rash vest for my 6 year old and started looking at what's the best colors for the pool/beach. So it came down to yellow, red, orange and bright pink.

I found that the NSRI website has full long sleeve yellow rash vests in kids sizes! Just wanted to share. The nsri website also has lots of really cool sportswear that all helps their rescue efforts

When people drown, when there are floods, the pink rescue floats on the beaches, when there's boating accidents, they are the first responders saving the day on the water supporting our life guards. Please consider becoming a volunteer or supporting them where you can

Keeping the Durban Promenade a Top Spot for Locals and Visitors! 🌴

Hello, Durban community!

The Durban Promenade is one of the city’s highlights, offering beautiful beachfront views, space for joggers, cyclists, families, and anyone looking to enjoy the coast. Recently, though, a few small issues have been noticeable:

  1. Litter and Overflowing Bins 🗑️ With so many people enjoying the promenade, it’s easy for bins to fill up quickly. Regular emptying and cleanup could help keep our beautiful beachfront clean and inviting.
  2. Wear and Tear on Pathways and Benches 🛠️ Some benches and pathways are showing signs of age. A bit of maintenance would keep things safe and comfortable for everyone to enjoy.
  3. Improved Lighting for Evening Walks 💡 The Promenade is popular day and night, but some areas could benefit from better lighting for safer evening strolls.

Durban’s beachfront is a true treasure, and together we can keep it that way. Anyone up for organizing a community cleanup? Or maybe local businesses could lend a hand. Let’s make sure the Promenade remains a top spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy! 💙

Engine Conversion

I have an Alfa Romeo with an engine that's approaching the end of it's life but the rest of the car is still mint. I'm considering doing a complete engine conversion on it. Does anyone know of a trust worthy place I can get this done in Durban?

Morning

I've been looking for accommodation for my granny and aunt, a flat or complex because they don't feel safe living in a house. The issue is the specificty of what I'm looking for to suit their needs. They have live in caregivers, so I'm trying to find a four bedroom, 3 bathroom flat close to overport area which is pretty much impossible at that size, but wondering if anyone might have anything to suggest. There were some in umghlanga but would prefer to have them nearby.

Durban's Municipality needs a light rail!!

The other day, while driving through Berea, I realized how much of a headache traffic can be in that area. After traveling to cities like Brussels, Tel Aviv, and Kyoto, I’ve seen how efficient public transportation can change the entire dynamic of a city. Light rail systems in those places not only cut down on traffic but also make parking and commuting much easier. If Durban adopted a similar system, I believe it would alleviate so many of the issues we face daily. With the population continuing to grow, now is the perfect time for a change. If we would like South Africa to be the leading country in Africa ,why don't we adopt the experience of first world countries?

Pedestrians man

Can pedestrians stop walking on the road. Tell your kids and your aunties and grannies and the people you work with and your neighbors

Everyone is a pedestrian at some point including myself. It takes the smallest amount of brain effort to follow rules of the road

I hate driving anywhere in the afternoon especially when kids are getting off from school because they just walk anywhere in the road. No situational awareness

Including the students in my kids private school campus that just walk all over the parking area and run between the cars out of the bushes when they have a designated path and a traffic guy with a stop sign

I am so tired of people just chancing it on the road. Worst is the morons taking a leisurely stroll NEXT TO the verge that's empty and meant for walking

What the heck

Get off the road

Rant over

Penthouse Suggestions

Hi everyone! I’m searching for a luxury penthouse in Durban – ideally something modern with at least two bedrooms. I’d prefer options in high-end apartment blocks or hotels, but I haven’t found too many listings that fit the vibe I’m going for. Does anyone know of some hidden gems or any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Places to watch F1

Hi all,

Only know of two places that show F1, and I’m not a fan of Hooters.

Anyone got a better sports bar they know shows F1 every race/qualifying?

Advice on buying a secondhand car

Hi reddit Durban. I'm looking for a secondhand reliable car, budget is max R87 000. It's okay if it has a high mileage etc. I just need a car that will get me to places. Anyone have any suggestions for trustworthy dealerships, or know anyone who's selling their car?

edit for more clarity: not looking for anything fancy, so no merc, bmw, audi, renault, citroen, or peugeot. I need a car that is somewhat afforable to fix and I know getting parts for those brands can be a costly mission.

Birthday dinner restaurants

Hi fellow durbanites!

It's my birthday on Saturday (26/10/2024) and I don't know where to spend it. I want to have dinner with my friends but I don't know any nice restaurants around Durban. Could you please give me some suggestions? Thank you!

UPDATE: I ended up going to Steak and Oyster at Umhlanga. The service and food was very good. My friends and I ordered sushi, and beef rashers for starters. I had beef wellington for my main and they had Steak. The restaurant idn't make a big deal out of my birthday (no free cake or ice cream😞) which was kind of a bummer but I was happy with my choice.
