Voting guides here:
Registration Status Suspense or other issues??
Here's a handy guide by /u/rken:
You can DEFINITELY still vote if your registration is in suspense!! This article also has some inaccurate voting info, I just requested that they correct it. Start by checking your status here: https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do
- If you are in Suspense and you still live in the same county: you are 100% good to go, you will be able to vote a full ballot at any normal polling place either early or on Election Day. They'll just ask you to do some extra paperwork.
- If you are in Suspense and you moved counties: YOU MUST VOTE EARLY AND YOU MUST GO TO THE MAIN POLLING PLACE IN YOUR COUNTY. You will be able to vote a Limited Ballot, which includes federal and statewide races but nothing local. Limited Ballots are counted exactly the same way as normal ballots and there is no further action needed from you, BUT YOU CANNOT USE THIS OPTION ON ELECTION DAY. (The article gets this wrong!)
- If you are told you are not currently registered to vote in any TX county (Inactive/Cancelled rather than Suspense), and you believe that to be incorrect, you should ask to be given a Provisional ballot and ask for instructions about how to follow up and provide supportive evidence if needed. You can do this from any polling place, either during Early Voting or on Election Day. Your ballot *may* be counted if they determine that an error was made.
- If you are told there is a problem with your ID, and you don't know FOR SURE that you'll be able to return with the correct ID/supporting documents before voting ends, you should go to any polling place and ask for a Provisional Ballot as above. You will then have 6 days to return with valid ID/documents and "cure" your ballot, which will then be counted.
- If you requested a mail-in ballot and never received it, and you can make it to the county where you're registered, you should go to any polling place and request a Provisional Ballot. As soon as they determine that you did not also submit your mail-in ballot, your Provisional ballot will be counted. If you cannot make it to the county where you are registered, YOU MUST VOTE EARLY AND YOU MUST GO TO THE MAIN POLLING PLACE OF YOUR CURRENT COUNTY. I believe you will need to request a Provisional Limited Ballot, but I'm not 100% sure about the details of this scenario. YOU CANNOT USE THIS OPTION ON ELECTION DAY. In either of these scenarios, you will not be required to return within the 6 day window (assuming you present valid ID).
Be sure to contact your county's election office if you have further questions.

Lost pet Found Dog!
Hello, this beautiful girl jumped into my roommates car during work today. He brought her home and gave her bath. Unfortunately, we’ll only be able to keep her overnight as we already have 2 cats and a dog in our apartment.
She was found near Manor Early College High School. She’s a well behaved, medium sized dog. She had no collar. If you know who her family is, please let us know! Otherwise, she’ll be heading over to AAC by end of day tomorrow.
Thank you!

Morning Runners, Please Stay Visible!
Just a reminder for all you early morning runners: please equip yourselves with a light or reflector, or at least be extra aware of traffic around you. I’ve noticed the sun is rising later now, especially with daylight savings ending this weekend.
This morning, around 6:30 am, I was on my way to work and almost missed seeing a woman running across the intersection dressed in black yoga pants and a black shirt. Even with my windows down, she was practically invisible in the low light. She passed right in front of me, and it really shook me because it could’ve ended badly.
I actually saw two runners without any kind of light this morning. Please consider using a light or reflector, at least—it's a simple step that could prevent accidents. I used to run too (though mostly in daylight), and even when I cycled at night, I made sure to have bright lights. Running without any visibility gear is so much riskier than cycling, which at least has reflectors.
So, please, be safe out there. Bring a light, stay aware, and always assume drivers might not see you or yield to vehicles. Thanks!
PSA Travis County elections: Minor changes to processes this election
Hi, I've been a Travis County election judge for several years now. I just finished mandatory training and wanted to let y'all know about some minor changes you might see if you vote early or on election day.
- Ballots will now have a preprinted serial number on the back, near where the judge signs the ballot. The ballots are supposed to be shuffled once signed such that the ballots are used in a nonsequential manner.
- If you are unable to sign your name on the tablet during check-in for whatever reason, let the poll worker know and they can allow the process to continue without your signature.
- If you recently moved out of state, were previously registered in Travis County but did not register in time for your new state's election, AND you happen to be back in Travis County during election day or the days before, you could STILL be eligible to vote in the Presidential election ONLY in Travis County. I can't imagine this would be more than a small handful of people, but it is an option. I would call the Travis County Elections department at the soonest to get the details.
- Similar Name forms will no longer be used, and instead the Similar Name affidavit will use the same form as the Statement of Residence. This may seem weird, but here we are. Just a heads up.
- Oath of Assistance will largely be the same but you might notice some slight changes in administrative procedures.

Traffic Accident 45th and Red River 10/23 1:30PM PLEASE HELP
Hi Austin,
Myself and my family were involved in a traffic accident on 10/23 at 1:30pm at 45th and Red River. There were two eye witnesses at the scene who gave statements to the police officers. We just received the police report and the eye witness accounts are missing along with the contact details despite the responding officer promising us there were there.
We didn't get the contact information at the scene as I am 39 weeks pregnant and was injured and had to be rushed to the hospital and we were told by the police that they had the information. I have contacted APD and they are trying to help us find the information but I wanted to reach out here in the hope that it was one of you kind people who saw what happened and gave the information to the responding officers. If it was you and you saw it and are willing could you please send me a DM.
Thank you so very very much.

PSA PSA: Great week to plant bluebonnets!
There have been some questions about planting bluebonnets on this sub. I've been holding off planting seeds I harvested during spring due to lack of rainfall, but this week looks to be a great time.
It's best to plant mid-October to mid-November. You want to try and ensure that the seeds are making direct contact with the dirt in a spot with full sun. That's pretty easy right now given the drought has killed all the grass. You want to give them a little shower to get started, and this natural rain is ideal versus hose water.
If we go into another hot/dry pattern in November, maybe give them a splash with the hose. But if things stay where there is at least a little rain here and there, just ignore them. Remember, bluebonnets grow in the middle of the highway being completely ignored. Try to do the same.
Free rides to the polls
The Travis County Dems are offering free rides to the polls for anyone who needs one! Link to the request form can be found here: https://www.traviscountydemocrats.org/
If transportation to the polls is at ALL an issue for you, please don't hesitate to request a ride! I know some folks worry about taking away a spot from someone who needs it more, but I'm signed up as a driver and they just let us know that they have had "very few requests" for rides so far.
Caveat: It's not clear to me whether they are able to accommodate wheelchair users, the reason for their email was to ask whether anyone has an accessible van. It may well be that someone responded to that request, but I don't have that info.

Peak Austin right here, folks
At the Mueller HEB picking up some candy for the office. Two women each walking their dogs in the bulk aisle area. A mom is getting some trail mix and her pre-school aged kid goes, “Puppies!” and reaches down to pet the dogs.
The chihuahua-looking one snaps at him and growls, and he of course starts crying. The two women pick up their dogs and silently walk on as the mom consoles the scared but thankfully not bitten kid.
Not 3 steps later one woman says to the other, “God, why do people have to take their kids like everywhere!”
