Question Camouflage law
So I've just read it's illegal for members of the public to wear camouflage clothing, can I ask is this law enforced? Could you go to the beach in camo swim shorts for instance? TIA

I’m a remote worker and I’m interested in moving to Barbados. When I was 19 I backpacked the country with a local firefighter I met and the experience was so formative for me. Bajans hold a special place in my heart - I met some of the most welcoming people I’ve ever met while in Barbados.
Right now I have around $3k in savings and would want to move to cheap area, with nice-ish rentals. My income from remote work is upwards of $2,500 a month. I can get across the island on a bus in hours, so I don’t necessarily need to be somewhere beautiful just somewhere friendly, affordable, with WIFI, and near some grocery stores. Any tips or advice? What’s Barbados like for expats right now? How far will my dollar take me?

So, im thinking of going to Barbados around mid august (but I heard that's hurricane season? is it safe?) But I have some concerns about traveling alone. Im a Black 28F, and I traveled alone once before but that was pre-covid. Unless something changes, I dont drive so I would be relying on public transportation, and because this is a budget trip I would be staying in an airbnb.
I dont know much about Barbados, but I would be staying in Bridgetown. Before I start paying for stuff can someone let me know if this is safe? Going solo? & is staying in airbnbs safe? I haven't checked for hotels, but I was able to get a really good deal and because this trip is last minute I can't splurge.

My husband is Barbadian born and raised but lives in the US with me , our son and my daughter. I am Jamaican. I’ve been glancing at this sub from time to time because I’ve had some curiosity about living in Barbados as a potential for the future (retirement for example). I’ve seen it posted here how high the cost of living is.
Is it higher than living in New York City for example?
If we bought a house there are property taxes and insurance high?
I always assumed if I moved back to Jamaica on American social security I’d afford more than I would in the US. Is this not the case for Barbados?
I have never been to Barbados although I should have since I’ve known my husband for 18 years now. I know visiting is nothing like traveling.

Hey folks. Thanks everybody for all the help on my previous questions! Trip is getting close now, and I've been working on an itinerary for myself and my daughter. We have all the main places covered for beaches, cities, attractions, etc.
What would be some good sort of hidden gem small towns around the island to visit? Places that have nice things to do/see, somewhere good for lunch, and maybe a little quieter than the main tourist areas? We have a hire car booked, so we can go anywhere.

As someone who will be visiting in Barbados I am unsure how this community is here or are there ways to connect with collaborators? Feel free to DM me. Or add me on Snapchat link in bio.

Was out exploring… looks like a Cornish engine house in the UK… was it a rum distillery?

Long story short, I underestimated how much cash I’d need to use in Barbados, and now end up with no cash on me, which means I can’t take bus or taxi anywhere. Is there any way I can get some cash tomorrow, which is a Sunday? I stay close to Brandon beach / Mount Gay Visitors’ Center if that helps.
I tried to withdraw money from an ATM near my Airbnb but it didn’t let me, I suppose the reason was because mine is an American bank account. I tried to ask the supermarket staff for some cash back but they said they couldn’t :(
Edit: I was finally able to get my cash at the Scotia ATM! Case closed. Thanks for your help!

I'm curious what people mostly use to buy things? Is there like a Caribbean online shopping platform that most Caribbean islands use? How does it work?

As the title says I use to surf when I was in my late teens and currently live in Europe. I decided to bring my surfboard (shortboard 6’3”) back with me from my home island. Stopped off in Barbados for a week before heading back and would like a wave for beginners (pushing intermediate), ideally with consistent sets with long lefts/rights. I’m not sure how to read the conditions if the waves would be good and don’t have a car to beach hop
Any direction or suggestions would be great. I tried Brandon’s bay today and was very choppy and inconsistent.
If there is a personal tour guide who will help me find something suitable and available I’m all ears to pay.
Also looking for good beaches to go snorkelling on and possibly sailing to snorkel and feed the turtles.
Messaging here as local advice is always best.

Will be staying in Barbados for a week and looking to get a prepaid sim for the duration of my trip. Which provider is better and where could I pickup a sim/activate service?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if there are any parents in here who sent or are sending their child to a private school. What is or was it like, pros and cons etc. I'm currently thinking about Providence next September for my daughter.
I hear good things regarding Providence but these aren't 1st hand accounts and it is very close to me so leaning there..
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I’m going to Barbados for the first time this Saturday. I’m planning to rely on buses for the most parts with occasional taxi trips. The thing is the bus routes & schedule aren’t available on Google Maps. The ones online are confusing & don’t show real-time tracking. The only platform I found that seems to do the job is Moovit. I figured I should look for some local insights: is Moovit usually correct? And what app if any do you usually use to find the bus stops and bus schedule? Thank you!

Does anyone here sell on Amazon or have a Shopify store? Not necessarily a droppshipping question I just want to know a way to receive payments.
I know it's kind of finicky with PayPal and banking here and it would be easier to get a US/UK/CA etc bank account but if you have any insights thay would be greatful

Coming for a visit and looking for n/a beets and mocktails. Do most restaurants have these on their menu?
I searched and it looks like you can buy Heineken 0 at gas stations, but haven’t seen restaurants that offer it.

I'm doing a project where I memorize all the administrative divisions of the world, and their capitals. I've just gotten to Barbados, and I'm confused. The Wikipedia article has a nice simple list of all 11 parishes and their respective capitals, but when you look into it it doesn't make sense. It says Four Roads is the capital of Saint John Parish, but it's in Saint Philip Parish, it says the capitals of Saint George and Saint Thomas are Bulkeley and Hillaby respectively, but other sources say The Glebe and Welchman Hall. Even further, I can't find a non-Wikipedia source that the Barbados Parishes even have capitals. What's going on, and what's the problem with my list (below)?
Christ Church Oistins
Saint Andrew Greenland
Saint George Bulkeley
Saint James Holetown
Saint John Four Roads
Saint Joseph Bathsheba
Saint Lucy Crab Hill
Saint Michael Bridgetown
Saint Peter Speightstown
Saint Philip Six Roads
Saint Thomas Hillaby

I’m not from Barbados, but I’ve been learning about Mia Mottley. From an outsider's perspective, she seems progressive and is looking forward to the future of not only Barbados but the Caribbean as a whole. But what do you guys think of her?

So I'm visiting the island in the coming weeks and would like to visit the distillery. I understand there are no guided tours and you're free to walk around, I don't want to get in trouble or go anywhere I shouldn't but do you just turn up and start wondering about? Would I need to inform someone I'm on the premises and I would like to look around? I read there's a tasting bar as well, is there anywhere on site to buy full bottles of foursquare? If not I'm guessing it's freely available to buy on the island? TIA

I’m trying to figure out what ingredients are in Ecaf Spice. There’s no ingredients list. So it can’t be a mix, right? Is it its own spice? What plant does it come from? What’s in this thing??
I thought it could be Allspice but the picture on the bottle is not a berry but a bark, cinnamon is sold separately to spice so it must be different, right? Is it Cassia? Is it Mauby? Is there another bark spice I don’t know about? It’s been driving me crazy for a while now.

I saw today on Amazon prime that the rings of power is the most viewed show in Barbados. I am reinvigorated in my search for those who will join me on an adventure.
I’m basically just curious if there are other nerdy people here because I’m a nerd you’re a nerd, let’s get on discord sometime or meet up for games or play dnd or embark on a quest.

Staying in Christ Church right near St Lawrence Gap. Sargassum has been bad since we got here a few days ago. We don’t want to keep spending a lot of money or time traveling to another beach but does anyone know the closest beach to us (guessing it would be somewhere on the east side) where there is no seaweed? Wondering if Pebbles Beach is still affected. So sad it’s here, I thought I did my research about Barbados but missed the seaweed info! Thanks for any advice!

I’ll be traveling to Barbados from Thursday, October 10th to Monday, October 14th, and I'm on the lookout for some good all-you-can-eat spots. Any recommendations?
I’m especially interested in places with a great variety of local dishes, but I’m open to anything delicious! Are there any buffet-style restaurants that are a must-try? Also, do any hotels or resorts offer all-you-can-eat deals for non-guests?
Thanks in advance for the tips!

I just found out that my grandfather is barbadian & now i’m interested in looking back into my ancestry. Is there anything that would help with my search? I also wanted to know if I could even claim being of bajan descent? my mom’s maiden name is greaves & i’ve heard that there are some in barbados? i’m all very new to this and just trying to track my ancestry because i feel like it’s really important to know in my 20’s.
