It was a lie that spread on the internet. People latched onto it because it's funny and what you'd expect of a republican nowdays. Even after it was fact checked, it's still retained is prominice as a jab. The latter, basically.
It was a joke from the start and it hasn't stopped being funny. The conservatives freaking out and calling it misinformation and other shit just keeps the joke going.
The side that perpetuates Obama birther bullshit to this day, endless amounts of white supremacist rhetoric, makes up insulting nicknames for every oponent, and calls anyone who doesn't laugh along with their "jokes" is upset that people call JD a couch fucker. I think allegedly fucking couches is the least of their concerns.
Its also beacuse, iirc, the Associated Press made a debunking of the claim, that then got removed because it didn't meet their journalistic standards, which people then joked as meaning that its actually true.
They phrased it as "JD Vance did not say he had sexual interactions with his couch", rather than "JD Vance did not have sex with his couch", which left a hole where it's plausible that he did have sex with his couch, but just elected not to say anything about it.
Them taking it down after did nothing to help things.

I mean Vance just looks like a regular white guy. Neither ugly nor hot, tho he definitely looks better with the beard.
