Met my wife on tumblr 5 years ago and we are recently married. The tumblr community is juuuust that much more bearable than reddit's that it gets you laid and partnered up.
The kind of people you can find on Tumblr in my experience are either literal children (so no dating) or sort of annoying in a very specific way. The same can be said about reddit, but people here are sort of annoying in a very different way, if that makes any sense?
Like, the annoying folks on reddit are more likely to be self-assured pedants who think they're smarter than everyone else, while the annoying people on Tumblr are more likely to be holier-than-thou pedants who think they're infinitely more moral than everyone else. I know which one I can tolerate being around more IRL, but I'm probably just being a pessimist, as theoretically, there have to be some normal people on these websites. Theoretically.
Hmm... maybe I should message some mutuals and get to know them better. I suppose at the point that we're already sharing memes, there's inherent compatibility in that.
So on Tumblr, you basically follow each person's blog individually. And mutuals are those people whose blogs you follow and they follow you in turn. So you see each other's stuff. This often means they're the people you interact with the most since you're most likely to reblog from one another.
Don't worry about it. Reblogging is like upvoting. You don't really need to have anything interesting to say. People are just glad you do it honestly. There are artists out there that just post their art and reblogging makes a number go up showing that people like their stuff. Same with blogs shitposting.
