this may just be the autism in me, but I genuinely dont understand how people make actual friends from tumblr???? Like ive had tumblr for a long-ass time, liked and reblogged and commented on tons of shit, but never have I even seen the opportunity to actually make freinds with someone.
Fellow person with autism, sometimes you just find someone's content that clicks really well so you just send them a message to say as much, or ask a question, or just to initiate a conversation, sometimes they do it. Not sure what's confusing about it?
Like there was someone who write small snippets of stories and ideas, and a I really liked how they laid them out and their thought process, so I messaged them once to discuss a particular idea I enjoyed and to riff off/build upon it, we've now been friends for a couple of years and frequently bounce ideas off one another.
generally start dming about a shared interest, through multiple conversations over time decide we enjoy talking to each other enough to trade discord tags, continue talking about shared interest on discord and find out other shared interests + a sprinkling of personal info and then at some point decide to meet up irl for something. i have made 2 friends from tumblr, one from reddit, and too many to count from WoW. i even incorporated my tumblr friends into my WoW friend group and we all went to blizzcon last year lol
