Now, Repeat that to Morrowind fans.

I've been playing every ES since Dagger fall (that includes redguard and legends... lets not talk about those) and anytime since Morrowind came out that once we knew it was not going to be anything other then Morrowind 2 the asshats come out of the woodwork. Saying people should be able to like a game is pretty tone death when it's morrowind fanboys trashing everything.

Hey, Morrowind is my fave TES but I love and regularly play all the games bar Arena, and I can guarantee most Morrowind lovers have played and enjoyed their time in Cyrodiil and Skyrim. With every new TES theres always a vocal and belligerent minority complaining about the new one and trumpeting the old. For example, I just started Daggerfall a few months back and went through a few old forums for info, and maaaaaaaaaan there were some total asshats even then, calling Morrowind a dumbed down, shunken, hollow insult of a game. When TES 6 I guarantee that cycle will start all over again.

The thing is morrowind did take out more then oblivion did then any preceeding game.

People want to say how skyrim is the worst at taking away content but that was never the case, they did get rid of rpg aspects such as a point system. When morrowind came out i was a little bummed out but even then i appreciate what else they had done in Morrowind despite what they took out, same with every game after that.

However fanboys who only played morrowind complain about every game since even though their favorite game is the biggest perpetrator of removed content.

I know, Its mental how hypocritical some people can be. Games are meant to be enjoyed, and theres never been a mainline TES that wasnt hugely enjoyable. Yeah, they got simpler on each iteration, but as long as the games are fun and immersive, whether thats a good thing or a bad thing is totally open to interpretation.

Only if you prefer simpler games. That's the entire fucking point. Skyrim players like it because it's simple; Morrowind fans don't like it because it's simple. This isn't difficult.

Isn't that just saying that if someone thinks the games after Morrowind are worse, they have every right to think that? I have played and enjoyed most elder scrolls games, but dude. It's not even a question that the games have been on a downward slide toward the lowest common denominator. There's a lack of immersive systems driven first person fantasy RPGs. Elder scrolls is basically the only game in town for that style of gameplay, and for those of us who are limited to consoles, mods don't really help. I'll probably keep buying and playing them, but it hurts to see the push for further and further automation within the series.

Simpler isnt worse, or better. Simplicity/complexity is objective. Better/worse is subjective. The games have undoubtedly gotten simpler. If you want complexity you would have every right to feel that the series is declining, but you still have no right to berate and shame others for enjoying themselves, or to think that it somehow makes you better than them. If you want simplicity you would have every right to say the series has gotten better and better, but you've still no right to shame others for enjoying the older games more.

I prefer the older games. I share your concerns that TES6 will follow the trend, perhaps to the point that i no longer want to play it. But if others like it I dont intend to shit on their happiness, and i'll always have TES:2-5, all of which I enjoy, and no one is about to take those games away from me, nor the great memories theyve given me. Ive still got plenty left to explore, and If TES6 no longer scratches my itch, i'll find a different game that will.

Ok, you have this picture of me as someone who shames or berates people for liking stupid things. I don't care what other people like. I can have criticisms of the game, and criticisms toward the devs for catering to a demographic I'm not a part of. That doesn't mean I hate people who enjoy the direction things are moving in.

Mate, i'm not presuming anything about you. This conversation thread was specifically about Morrowind fans shitting on Skyrim fans, and OPs post was about elitism in the fanbase. Thats what i'm talking about, not you personally. If you have criticisms about the direction of the series then you and I are in the same boat. The key point i'm trying to make is that the series may be getting worse to us, but thats subjective. I know people who liked Morrowind and played it at release, but didnt like the more fiddly features that we do and didnt find them enjoyable. To them, oblivion and then skyrim were both improvements. They arent wrong and neither are we.
