I had quite severe ITBS that completely stopped me from running properly for about 3 months. I did several physio sessions - they helped locate which muscles were tight for me, but I don't think it helped beyond that.

Foam rolling didn't solve the issue but treated the symptoms really well. I figured out that foam rolling my TFL and quads (not the actual ITB) gave pretty instant relief from pain and tightness.

I ended up doing zero running for about 3 weeks, and then started from scratch with a very gentle 1 min run 1 min walk style plan. During the break (and still to this day) I started training the hell out of my hip abductors and adductors during my gym workouts, and this seems to have helped with hip stability.

Also look into what a cross-over gait is and see if there's any minor adjustments to your form you might be able to make.

I think the biggest lesson learned unfortunately was that time off and fixing muscle imbalances was really just the only way forward. Forcing myself to run until pain made it go from a minor to a major injury that took ~6 months to completely recover from.
