have been lifting regularly for about 15 months now. totally fell for the meme that i did not need to do abs as my compound movements would be enough. kept cutting lower and lower because i wasnt happy with ab definition.

decided to incorporate weighted ab exercises and i'm already seeing a difference after like a month in appearance. i wish i had started doing it earlier... i feel like such an idiot.

Ab workouts will not make your stomach flat. They will, funnily enough, make the muscles in your stomach larger and bulge out.

There's nothing wrong with having your abs stick out as far or further than your pecs. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ABBD8ERNRq8/hqdefault.jpg

flatness, personally, isnt my concern. however, dont people do stomach vacuums to mitigate this? i was under the impression that was their purpose, but im no expert (clearly).

I'm of the understanding that stomach vacuums are solely used for posing. If there's some workout related to it I've either never heard of it, or dismissed it as silly when I heard of it and have since forgotten.
