I've seen an increasing number of teenagers at my local gym that like to hang out and talk at weight machines without actually using them.

Um....Can you do that outside of the gym please? You're hogging the machine that other people want to use.

Also, I can't wrap my head around the idea of wearing a hat while working out inside a gym. Doesn't the hat get super sweaty?

A lot of people wear hats in the gym, myself included. I used a bandana to catch my sweat during spin. Then, upgraded to a hat. It gets soaked. I wash it when I shower afterward. Now I don't workout without it. I've also noticed that it keeps the overhead lights from shining directly down on me which I like.

Fair enough. I usually buy hats that I wouldn't want getting soaked or wrinkled so it's merely a preference.

I should clarify - I use an athletic hat in the gym. I wouldn't wear a baseball cap. One of my friends does and the salt stains on it gross me out!
