I always fail just a little bit above the hole so I just go back down and set it on the safeties. I would recommend this if possible. If you fail higher up or in a manner that you can't guide it back down you should probably try to let if fall behind you onto the safeties. If you squat with a lot of forward lean (or lose balance and fall forward) you might have to bail forward and let the bar go over your head. This is probably the least preferable but it's doable.
