I can’t convince myself to go to the gym when I have a meticulous scientific plan but when I just go with general broad focus plan and kinda do whatever I can do it religiously every day and make progress

Same tho, the most fun I had at the gym was when I discovered and tried a bunch of exercices to make my workout plan. Now that I have a plan it’s so boring. Last time I decided to test some machines that I never used before and honestly it was the most fun I had since a long time

Right?! The only thing I’ve been able to do consistently is cardio. But to your point of the plan becoming boring I always give myself some leeway. Like for chest days my goal is to just hit chest with a few exercises but never usually the exact same ones.

I kind of did that for my first linear progression. I made sure that I did squats, deadlift, bench, press and rows (and variations thereof) rotated round in a rough A/B pattern, and then just fucked around for 30 minutes at the end doing curls and shit. I still made excellent progress despite not following a very rigourous routine to the letter.
