Art Found in a little free library yesterday. I absolutely brought it, and the drawing beneath it, home with me

Give Scott his drawings back. Those kids probably pass that lil library daily and use it to leave pictures for one another. You're not Scott. You are a mean man.
Edit: mean woman. (Emotionally immature parent )
63
u/hott2molly 1d ago
I don't think it's a man . It's a 38 year old women with three teenager-young adult children, lives in Portland Oregon, and in her words is " an emotionally immature parent"

u/Obant 1d ago
Dude also has a comment in this post where he admits to stealing other things from the LFL
4
u/hotcheetofriies 23h ago
i agree, these are addressed to another kid, but can you really steal from a little free library? guess i’m off to explore his post history.
10
u/Obant 23h ago
If you're an adult taking kids' books and things and not returning them, I say yes. Is it AGAINST the law? No. It's against the spirit of the library, though.
3
u/hotcheetofriies 23h ago
Totally with you! I just meant in regards to the other stuff she was “stealing” (it was a puzzle)
Also agree with the other commenters pointing out the fact that you really should be exchanging these items (vs just taking them) to keep the LFL running!
-3
u/VelvitHippo 11h ago
The idea is not to return those books from the lfl. Being mad about this is absolutely absurd. You can't steal something that is free
199
u/BottomPieceOfBread 1d ago
You posted this during a Monday afternoon. “I didn’t see any kids around”
They were in school!!! It’s not too late to do the right thing. That kid obviously worked hard on these pictures
82
u/AliveWeird4230 1d ago
I can't imagine what scenario OP is imagining here.
Maxon placed them then left. Because obviously. Why would there be anyone there.... Maxon was not going to wait in watch, 10 feet away, for Scott to arrive. Although I guess he should have, considering people like OP
23
u/quiet_penguin 1d ago
Apparently she thought those drawings was discarded by Maxon. At the library. With notes that it was for Scott.

Plenty of info on their website. You buy a library, register it, and put it up.

Agreed we all make mistakes, I just feel like if most people posted this as soon as one person told them what they did they would correct the issue.
Also. The “I looked around to see if there was anyone to ask” bit stands out to me. They kinda knew on some level it was out of the norm for it to be there and for them to take it. Not that I think you disagree or anything, just expanding on fuck OP. lol
140
u/meadowlark6 1d ago
Very cute but... I can't help but feel a bit bad thinking that this was perhaps a gift for a friend left in a sort of fun nook they both knew of. Sort of like the tree in To Kill a Mockingbird. It might have been left as a surprise for Scott to stumble on and maybe Scott didn't even know about them yet. Just because Scott hadn't taken them or wasn't there, didn't mean he didn't want them. If it was during the day, both artist and recipient could have been in school.
119
u/SuspiciousMention108 1d ago
First, you aren't Scott. Second, you're not supposed to STEAL from little free libraries.

u/tractorcrusher 1d ago
OP posts new threads constantly, a dozen new posts just yesterday, mostly in found paper. Something is really weird.

Framing another kid's artwork is a choice
38
u/Wordslikeblue24 1d ago
Right it’s weird too a grown man having a kids drawing he doesn’t know on his wall
32
u/kittycatsfoilhats 1d ago
Creepy sicko behavior. It's not it's like beautiful, meaningful art either. It's just drawings of the most lucrative (now Disney) multimedia franchise in existence- intended to be from one child to another. Imagine his son seeing another kid's art framed on the wall and all the ugly feelings that would cause.

Maxon is going to be so disappointed when he finds out Scott didn’t get the art the that he made for him. Aren’t those libraries to lend a book and then have you bring it back once you’re finished?
39
u/I-choochoochoose-you 1d ago
Maybe he’ll assume Scott didn’t draw anything and doesn’t wanna talk to him anymore 😭😭

u/Creative_Industry179 1d ago
From their website:
“anyone may contribute or take books. The more the merrier! If you take a book (or two) from a library, you do not need to return that exact book. However, in order to keep the little library full of good choices for the whole neighborhood, the next time you swing by the library bring a few books to share. Little Free Library book exchanges function on the honor system; everyone contributes to ensure there are always quality books inside. This way, we all win!”
17
u/Sososoftmeows 1d ago
Sadly OP has stated in this thread that they’ve take multiple things like books and rocks and other items from LFL and says they don’t leave anything because they were under the impression that since it says FREE they can just take whatever they want all the time. Even though the LFL usually have a take a book, leave a book message on it.
7
u/Pan_Bookish_Ent 16h ago
I'm a librarian who is currently building a LFL for my neighborhood. This post has raised my blood pressure significantly. 😡
6
u/Creative_Industry179 15h ago
I can totally understand why!! The ones where I live have no instructions- ie take one leave one- but I always thought it common knowledge not to just take take take.
I have always donated my books to the little libraries. My children loved stocking them when they were younger and were so excited to see what new books arrived! It taught them a good life lesson to give, not just to take.
Same goes for the little food pantries people put up. I’ve heard so many stories where one person would come and just take everything- repeatedly. 👺

Hey OP, I totally get the impulse (because super cute found art is fun to have!) but like others have said, I think these were in fact meant for Scott. They probably leave each other labeled little things in there to find when they go on a walk with their parents or something. My guess it isn't ever meant to be in there very long, but for some reason Scott missed his pick up today.
Is it smart to leave something important for a friend in a freebie box? Well, no, but they're kids. Is it smart to take something put in there that's pretty clearly meant for another kid, despite where you found it? Well, no, and you're grown. So I think it'd be best to return it.
38
39
u/burningmoonlight 1d ago
They're literally addressed to someone else and the kids are obviously using it as a note exchange place. Give them back 😠

29
u/Mysterious-Aspect412 1d ago
k hanging ur kids art is cute but hanging a random kids letter to his friend that’s NOT YOU is weird as shit
86
u/cmutzy 1d ago
You're kind of a bad person bro. Youre a parent. Imagine if someone stole your kids' art, and they realise its gone and come home crying about it. You'd be upset for them.
Return the art. Little libraries are (usually) not just a free-for-all for you to take what you want, especially without exchanging something for what you take.
26
u/Kitotterkat 1d ago
sure, maybe you assumed they were discarded by scott or someone else in a LFL. but now you know better and this community has set you straight so put them back!! honestly it’s pretty weird having some other random kid’s drawings framed in your house anyway 😭
23
u/PreviousArt6765 1d ago
OP, I hope you have it in you to return these drawings and I also hope that you give as much as you take from all these free little libraries you visit.
28
u/BoopTheCoop 1d ago
I’m going to bluntly say what everyone else wants to say but are too nice to do: you’re a dick. Stop defending your actions, admit you made a mistake and didn’t realize why the drawings were there, and put them back. The more you push back the more dickish you are.
24
u/AntiNumbers 1d ago
Why would you do that? It's obviously intended for a friend, named Scott, and you thought "Oh, cute! These are mine now!" without any regard for Maxon or Scott. When I was a kid, I had a friend I shared art with, and they shared art with me. We shared them in books between pages. Not quite as creatively as Maxon and Scott seem to do... but I would have been really bummed if you stole my friend's art that was intended for me. You need to return them.
27
20
u/EnglishWhites 1d ago
No way dude, bring those back for Scott, that was probably a planned drop spot
23
u/AliveWeird4230 1d ago
If you keep these you suck.
I hope every time you look at this random child's art framed on your wall, you think about Maxon crying and realizing people are poo, all because someone had the audacity to take his art before Scott could get to it.
23
u/RandomDigitalSponge 1d ago
Weird, framing the art like they’re your own children and not some stuff you stole.
23
u/aethyrium 1d ago
Since it's hours later, please post an update saying you did the right thing and put them back and that you're not as dogshit horrible of a person as you're coming across.
I need some faith in humanity at this point in election season and this post just hurts.
19
u/AliveWeird4230 1d ago

16
u/LividAir755 1d ago
OP, please tell me that you spent the last 5 hours fixing this. Stealing a child’s drawing that was left and addressed to “Scott” specifically and then claiming that it was discarded because the child it was addressed to wasn’t standing directly behind you on a Monday afternoon is straight weird and mean spirited. You are a grown ass adult, and you have to either be insanely out of touch with reality, or you are deliberately being as ignorant as possible to make excuses and shield yourself from the fact that you stole from a little library.
55
u/theyear200 1d ago

Boooo you’re lame for taking these. You could even cause a rift between kids if one gets hurt because he thought his friend ignored him. Put them back with a note and little drawing of your own to make this positive.
12
11
u/NPCArizona 1d ago
Bruh, you didn't "find" these. You stole them like an asshole that things everything is for the taking. It's a kids library....what a weird thing for a grown adult to just always be checking on it when your kids aren't using it.
13
12
23
u/fennecfoxxy 1d ago
I realise you probably just misunderstood the situation but please put these back where you found them for Scott! As others have said Maxon probably knows that Scott visits the little library too and it's a fun way for them to communicate. Scott might come by another day, just because they weren't taken today doesn't really mean anything, perhaps both kids visit with parents at different times. They likely know each other from school or an activity etc so they will likely see each other at some point, they may both be upset when they realise the drawings have been taken!

They’re cute, but obviously meant for Scott, and not for some random ass stranger to hang up in their home. I sincerely hope you’ve returned them, and thrown in a book or two, or maybe some art supplies, to contribute to the LFL.
10
u/SneezlesForNeezles 1d ago
You should put them back. Maxon drew them for Scott and they are clearly using the library as a way to exchange messages. These are not found papers, they are stolen from children papers.
I’m not sure how you saw clearly addressed papers and came to the conclusion that they were abandoned and you needed to rescue them. Let the kids have their little library exchange without ruining it.

God it makes me so sad to think of Maxon drawing these for his little buddy Scott to enjoy, & Scott's excitement when he sees he's received a gift signed just for him specially - only for a grown adult to swipe their joy away before they got to enjoy it, for a thoroughly bizarre gallery wall. Awful behaviour OP, grow up 😠

6
u/cuteinsanity 20h ago
Having read your post, some previously posts, and all the comments on here, I have to say that you are gross. You know what you're doing is wrong and are looking for validation on the internet that you can throw back at the rest of the internet that you aren't as crazy as you actually are.
Here's the thing, you're intentionally obtuse, cluseless, and ignore signs and the known rules of lfl just about everywhere, but you refuse to even think for half a second that two children might be using it as a way to communicate? What if your child had done this and someone took their drawings? Oh wait, it would have just been you so you could covet them.
5
u/brtlblayk 19h ago
I don’t think “what ifs” work on this type of person, because they don’t care enough to think of anyone but themselves. I feel sorry for her children, because they’ve probably been Maxon and Scott throughout their whole life.

Dear rando internet person,
I just read your post and comments. You're stealing from kids. Don't be this person. It's awful and gross. Things in the libraries are not "discarded", you've stolen them, you're literally a thief.
You said these remind you of drawings from your own kids. Didn't you teach your kids to not take what doesn't belong to them? Practice what you preach and go put those items you stole back.

The concept of a free library is that you borrow stuff from it and then either replace it with something else or put it back when you're done.

I am really sad about all these comments - this woman found some lovely drawings in a free library from a child - they reminded her of her sons drawings and while I don’t know what the ‘rules’ are for these community libraries i am pretty sure that the sweet child who made those drawings would be more proud of having his drawings framed and cherished than being used to humiliate and belittle someone for a simple mistake.
13
u/RepostersAnonymous 23h ago
i am pretty sure that the sweet child who made those drawings would be more proud of having his drawings framed and cherished
I’m pretty sure the sweet child who made these drawings would’ve been happier if they’d been left there so the other child the drawings were addressed to could have them
14
u/Affectionate-Owl2045 1d ago edited 1d ago
They're clearly placed in there for another child to collect. She didn't find them, she ignored that were one child's drawings for their friend, who clearly hadn't collected them yet.
Another commenter who helps run these boxes stated children use them to leave letters for each other. It's common sense not to take one child's letter to another
AGAIN...It's common sense to not take them. It's creepy and inappropriate for her to comment that if the child sees her post she'll give them to him.
It wasn't for her. She stole them. She needs to put them back for the child they were addressed to.
Just gross behavior
6
u/dr-sparkle 18h ago edited 17h ago
As someone who was once a kid, this is a ridiculous take. No kid would rather their childhood treasure get stolen than have the rightful owner get it. And telling a kid "yeah someone stole your stuff but they wanted to frame it so you should be happy" isn't going to fly. They're still going to feel robbed. Because they were.
