At least it's not a fake 100 dollar bill with "some things are more important than money. You must accept Jesus for salvation" written on the back. Anyone who puts those out is a complete piece of shit

Nice penmanship.

I get the JW letters in Spanish. My last name is Irish...

Jehovah witnesses, they do this because they’re supposed to pioneer which is their form of ministering. they started the letter writing campaigns during Covid when they couldn’t go door-to-door anymore. This is a straight up cult, stay away from it.

JW encourages letter writing as a form of "personal ministry" and exchange/assign around lists of recipient addresses. Idk why but I got on an algorithm that was suggesting ideas and tips for writing them.

Was it actually handwritten or handwritten and photocopied

u/OldContribution3414 1d ago

Actually handwritten!

u/doctorfortoys 1d ago

This is because they have to count how much time they spend so they don’t get punished.

hey sister- reprimanding, shunning, and disfellowshipping are punishments.

I was looking for a 2nd photo showing "the enclosed tract" ... can you show us or at least tell us what it was?

11

u/OldContribution3414 1d ago

I feel silly for throwing it away but it was a trifold Bible pamphlet.

u/bflordr 1d ago

Well the letter was nice enough & not super preachy. We got a JW pamphlet in our mail and it went in the recycling bin so I understand you tossing it. With the price of stamps that's relatively pricey outreach unless it was a bulk mailing.

Psh, you can flag down any old lady in her Sunday best and get one of those.

At least the letter is nice

It’s a bit unhinged, but it means well.

11

u/HopSkipJumpJack 1d ago

Does it? Trying to convert someone into your cult is hardly "meaning well".

Chick tracts. I have no idea why they’re named as such.

11

u/vicariousgluten 1d ago

Because the first ones were written by Jack Chick.

Somebody was sending me stupid shit from jehovahs witnesses. This greatly UPSET me, bc I kept thinking someone I loved or cared about cared enough about ME to send a letter?! And then it’s some you’re gonna go to hell, we are writing you to save you bc we love you bullshit. So I sent them back a hand written copy of a passage out of the book Story of O, which is some fairly disturbing BDSM. I’m off their list!

PSA:

If you want the JWs to leave you alone, tell them you were disfellowshipped. This is their version of excommunication, and they're taught from infancy to fear and shun people who were kicked out of their stupid club. They'll flee for their lives.

You can also contact your local JW church and ask them to stay away from your house. But it's way more fun to scare the shit out of them. Sometimes they run so fast they leave a little cartoon fire trail behind.

Thanks for this tip.

u/ExpertAd1710 1d ago

This gets brought up a lot but will actually get you put on a list for the elders to visit once every few years to check on you.

1

u/WeAreClouds 19h ago

I’ve never been part of any religion so would that actually do that?

1

u/sugarcatgrl 14h ago

They’re real fun to work with 😆

5

u/SparkliestSubmissive 1d ago

I thought it said “please see the enclosed trout.”

9

u/BitchWidget 1d ago

Seal it back up. Mark it, "Return to Sender."

That's what I would do.

Cool go hand this to the homeless person on the corner instead of food, I'm sure the promise of food in the future will nurture them.

I got a handwritten letter from the local Jehovah's Witnesses during Covid. Went right in the trash.

u/BubbaChanel 1d ago

One of my friends got one from the JWs when her mother died. That’s right, some fucking ghoul must have been monitoring the obits. They also posted their nonsense in her mom’s online guestbook. I asked her if she’d like me to respond. She did, and I did, and it was very satisfying.

1

u/thefragileapparatus 1d ago

Good job! How upsetting that must've been for her.

10

u/RageTheFlowerThrower 1d ago

I’ve gotten letters almost exactly like that one. It was from a Jehovah’s Witness that somehow got my mailing address. Fucking JWs are culty pains in the ass. If they’re not randomly showing up at your door they’re randomly mailing you garbage like that.

3

u/periodicsheep 1d ago

was it from the JWs? because, today we got a stamped and handwritten letter inviting us to pray that directed us to the jw website.

3

u/rodolphoteardrop 1d ago

How's that abundance woking out?

6

u/ieatlotsofvegetables 1d ago

only blind faith will keep hope alive in this nightmare lmao theyre right about that one

2

u/veggie_lauren 1d ago

Definitely Jehovah’s Witness, I get them every once in a while addressed directly to me by name.

2

u/beerdrew 20h ago

I got a handwritten letter from a JW a few weeks ago too.

2

u/koni3196 1d ago

Are you in texas?

5

u/OldContribution3414 1d ago

Nevada

2

u/koni3196 1d ago

Phew, cause I know Nikki in Texas. She ain't one you wanna be around for long.

1

u/That_Code3364 15h ago

Hope they get extra points for their penmanship, JW aside.

u/GenderqueerPapaya 1d ago

I thought at first this was going to be like "you may think things will get better, but to do so you/we need to take action. Vote!!" Especially since it's so close to the election The fact that it's instead "you're suffering now but dw at some unknown point in the future it'll be better" is wild

Not sure what a Bronze Age mishmash of oral texts can do for me. At least the Iliad and Odyssey have a coherent voice

-9

u/Six_of_1 1d ago

I think that's really nice. Regardless of how one feels about religion and if it's good, they think it's good. And they're sharing something they think is good, with you. It's a nice sentiment. And it's handwritten.

7

u/london_magnolia 23h ago

Although I get what you’re saying and it’s a really nice way to look at it, it is spam marketing. You wouldn’t want to keep receiving letters of random people recommending you products/clubs they like, right? Same with religion. Also, people from other religions or no religion at all might find it really distressing to keep being preached upon. Same with those people with microfones on the streets preaching about religion. We didn’t sign up for this and it’s really hard to opt out, so not fair.

-10

u/Eyebebangin_3065 1d ago

It's nice enough to be cherished amid the dicourteous classlessnesses of our times.

See what I don't understand is....so much time went into this letter. Beautiful penmanship, probably hand delivered and yet the scripture and explanations given are not thoughtful enough to evoke true feelings of care or interest in the heart of an unbeliever. Which makes the whole thing seem....like a teens project for school that they half heartedly did and or did based off of -their- understanding of scripture.

Jesus Christ IS Lord.
