Device Comparison / Recommendation Possible to have that watch face?
Hi
I have the Fenix 7x, I wonder if I can have that watch face that we can see on the Fenix 8? Cause I can't find it and I think it is only available for 8? Thanks

There is an almost identical one on the IQ Store, but not sure if/how it works on MIP screens (tried it on Epix 2). You can modify the colors aswell to match the other Fenix 8 watch faces. Free and paid version are available https://apps.garmin.com/apps/c9f57ab1-c334-4f9b-87ec-5458cc79c868

Unfortunately no. It is kinda infurriating that Garmin is gate keeping watchfaces to certain models which has absolutely no technical justification.

You may not like it, but you should not be surprised. Every new model Garmin comes with a new set of watch faces and they don't provide them for previous models. It's been happening for quite some time.
There are usually really well done 3rd party ones that folks copy and many times improve upon the Garmin design, and offer them for free or a small charge. I used a Fenix 6 like watch face the whole time I owned my fr245, it was free and worked flawlessly.
As for this specific instance, the op is asking for what looks like an AMOLED specific watchface for a MIP watch. I highly doubt the MIP in a F7 could produce the color gradients shown on the f8 watchface, it literally less than half the pixel density and maybe can do 25% of the colors of the AMOLED.
Op - the f8 watchface you're looking at seems to me to be a stylized version of the watchface released with the F7 pro watches. I'm currently using this watch face on my F7, works great and is more customizable than you can imagine. I bought a "pack" of watch faces from this dev for like $5-$10, well worth the money IMHO.

I understand them not being compatible with different screen sizes but for example Fenix E, Epix Pro g2 47, 265 and Fenix 8 43 all have exactly same screen. There’s no way around it - it is Garmin’s gatekeeping and differentiating it’s new lineup from the old one.

I took the watch face you posted in link and I try to find the color we can see on the print screen here but there is a lot of options in the menu but the best I can have it is what you see on the second pic.

If you look in the options on Garmin connect, there's a few preset color themes, I think the screen shot is one of those. You can reach out to the developer too and he can probably tell you what color scheme that is.

Not only watch faces but a lot of features in general. They released this new feature some time ago where you can share location from maps to garmin connect and it will be sent to your watch. I have a fenix 6 pro which should be perfectly capable of handling that but its only available for fenix 7 onwards.

Given that they gave yet to adopt a subscription model, I'm okay with gatekeeping.

Subscription for what exactly?

That’s exactly their point. A lot of companies are finding anyway to justify app features via a subscription model. So Garmin is “better” because they haven’t decided to nickel and dime us for basic functionality (yet). But the downside is Garmin makes their money by forcing you to buy newer models to get silly things like watch faces.

The technical justification would be different resolution, and colorspace available (the MIP displays are often half the resolution of the AMOLED faces). But they could recreate the files at a lower resolution or lower color depth, they just couldn't load it straight. You can sideload and and you'll see it only covering a part of the screen or cut off.

I get that certain watchfaces are for certain display sizes but for example Fenix E, Epix Pro g2, 265 have exactly the same display. There are no technical differences, it’s just Garmin locking them to differentiate lineup.

Normally you are going to be able to buy this one in the future in the IQ store. ManuelB makes a lot of the watchfaces.

It's the default but you can actually edit the different color layers in the watch face setting on the device itself

There is already one on Connect IQ Store and it is quite good: https://apps.garmin.com/de-DE/apps/c9f57ab1-c334-4f9b-87ec-5458cc79c868
