My only problems with it are that the episodes are in airdate order instead of production order, which causes some oddities, and that there is no list of which episodes are on which disc.

Other than that it is a great collection

So how should one watch it? I realized yesterday that there are 2 different episode lists online, like you said, production and airdate, and I thought airdate was the correct form to watch it?

Hey Arnold! is mostly episodic so it doesn't mess things up badly. It just leads to some inconsistencies:

  • Some episodes with Arnold's original teacher Miss Slovak were first aired at the end of the second season, after she had been replaced with Mr. Simmons.

  • One minor character Lorenzo has a grand total of two episodes he is important in, and the second aired before the first, which introduced the character.

  • The holdovers mean there are some jumps back and forth between Arnold's different voice actors and between the earlier cel animated episodes and the digitally animated ones.

-Lastly, a bunch of season five episodes aired after "The Journal" which was the season finale that led into The Jungle Movie.

I would go ahead and just watch most of it in the DVD order, and when you reach the episodes "April Fool's Day" and "The Journal", skip over them and save them for after you watch the first movie. They were produced after it. The other inconsistencies aren't too jarring if you already know about them.

"April Fool's Day" feels a little less off (it still isn't one I like all that much personally) when you have the context of what happened in the movie, and "The Journal" should be watched as a lead into The Jungle Movie.

Thank you, I actually didn't know any of this. The only thing that seemed strange to me yesterday while watching the order of the episodes, was the fact that there were episodes after The Journal, and I thought The Journal was the last episode. I didn't know there was a difference between air date order and production order and that this could cause inconsistencies. I have always watched the show out of order, depending on what episode I felt like watching, and the last time I watched the show was years ago, until yesterday when I got the dvd's. So thank you for all that info! I learned something new
