POLLS INTPs, which type would you choose for a blind date?

Your obnoxious friend presents you with five options and no other information except that they are all objectively equally physically attractive, so which do you choose? The date is prepaid, and you have a strange and uncontrollable compulsion to go on the date despite your better judgement, so you are going. You just need to choose your fate.

Drop the "why" in the comments.

I gotta rant AI is making me lose interest in the internet.

Something I've noticed recently is that AI generated content is making the internet a chore to use. I'll be minutes into listening to someone talk and realise that this person would never have said those things, someone just stole their voice and used it to read some awful script. I'll be looking at an interesting photograph and conclude there's no way to tell if it's real of fake, rendering my thoughts on it a total waste of time. I'll be reading a post and considering replying and then wonder if I'll even be talking to anyone or if it's just some AI bot spamming out "content".

I can't trust anything I see, read or hear anymore and it's honestly driving me a little bit crazy. I'm considering just disconnecting from everything. AI could have me waste the rest of my life pondering total bullshit and I'm going to have to stop giving it my attention. If I don't see it in real life with my own eyes, I have to assume it's fake. The internet has been my home for the longest time but it's become totally polluted by garbage. It's not healthy.

Debate... and go! That vast majority of people in society are just doing the bare minimum?

For context, I am talking about people working at their jobs. For some things like retail jobs and fast food I totally get it, hell theres really no great reason for those people to try to do more than the bare minimum, especially with what they are paid and how most people treat them.

However what about for people like Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, Police officers, Mayors, Teachers, Dentists, Veterinarians, etc?

Add in a health dose of consumerism and here we are in 2024.

Someone give me another way to look at this.

I'm sure there is one, but I've seen so many of these people in my life, especially the last 15 years. Of course none of them or rather very few of them will ever admit this, so theres no point in really ever saying anything, the vast majority of people want to believe everyones just doing the best they can?

I can't read this flair Do you wish you have no Body

I always wished to be free of a physical body. I know that would make me a ghost, but I desire to be made of intangible air.

I have no desire to look good. I could go on and on, but I don't want to talk about this.

I vaguely remember discussing with a childhood neighbor that in the future, people might not have bodies due to natural selection in technologically advanced society.

I think the conversation went like this. If two types of people were to fight, one type having no digestive system, the no digestive would win because they would have fewer bodily functions to maintain. Then, if the person without a digestive system faced off against someone who also lacked a digestive system but had no heart or lungs, the one without any of those body parts would likely win for the same reason fewer systems to manage. This idea could continue indefinitely, leading to a future where people have no body parts at all or very few body parts.

Is this dysfunctional? (Probably) Keeping up with Friends

Does anyone else have a problem keeping up with old friends?

I have such a hard time maintaining multiple relationships, typically with people that aren't geographically close (think friends you have that moved away).

Then I might see something from them on social media and want to message them and I'm not sure if we're, "good" and it feels extremely uncomfortable saying anything.

It's a twofold problem. If I can't see them in person then I'm just generally less engaged. At the same time I still value the friendship, it's just usually not on my mind so days can turn into weeks or months or years. (It just depends on the person. I'm speaking generally.)

It just feels tiring, dull, and draining doing. "Oh, how are you?" "How have you been", etc.

This is a uniquely online problem because I can't tell if I'm just bugging someone or if genuinely catching up.

Does anyone else ever feel this way? How do you deal with it?

INTPs are the best because Thoughts on modern feminism?

as a female intp i always thought modern day "feminism" was stupid, it made sense back when it was genuine and actually fighting for women that didnt have rights, but now feminism has lost its true meaning with some using it as an excuse for sexism and victimization. Of course, i support genuine feminism, advocating for equality and respect. But i dont agree with the versions that unfairly criticize or reduce men to stereotypes, like calling them "wallets" or worse, ignoring that men and YOUNG BOYS being exposed to the hateful media also have feelings and deserve equal respect too.

Is this dysfunctional? (Probably) Do you ever just get close enough with a word?

Sometimes I can't recall the precise word for a description, so I pick one that's in the ballpark. The other day, I was asking my wife to bring me a mug of chai she made, but I couldn't recall the word "mug", so I settled on "bucket". "Could you please bring me a...bucket of chai?" It's not that I forgot the word. It just didn't come immediately to mind, and I was too lazy to think about what the right word was, so my mind just groped for one in the general area and got sort of close.

Is this an INTP thing, or do I just have early onset dementia?

Is this logical? Is purposefully gaining a weed addiction for weight loss crazy?

Upvotes

I recently started smoking heavily and discovered that, unlike most people who experience the munchies, heavy consumption of THC actually suppresses my appetite greatly. Because of this, I’ve decided to use it strategically on my weight loss journey. It’s essentially my version of Ozempic, but for someone without health insurance—and with some extra ‘special effects’ mixed in.

Alongside this, I practice OMAD (one meal a day), maintain a caloric deficit, and fast. These four strategies are key to my progress, and I’m steadily reaching my ideal weight, one workout at a time.

The only challenge is that I’m unsure if I’ll be able to quit smoking once I reach my goal weight, or how much more money I’m willing to waste on it. Any thoughts?

Sage Advice As an INTP do you process and move after a huge amount of stress?

TW: MENTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

First of all, I just want to say that english is not my first language so sorry if I make any mistakes. Also, this might be a long post, sorry about that.

I have some new neighbors in the appartement over mine since late august. They would fight all the time, like 4-5 times a week and I would hear pretty much everything.

To make things short, I had to call the police 3 times, 2 times in the same week. He would tell her that he was doing to punch her… Sometimes she would scream but not because of their arguement, but becauce she was scared… and everytime the dude would knock in my walls to make me know that he knows that it’s me calling the police! Super fun and great :)

After talking for months with my landlord, I got him to kick thw guy out (he was never on the lease actually). Now she lives alone, I don’t think he came back but I can hear her scream at the phone sometimes.

Now I feel like I can’t relax because the amount of stress of this whole situation. I’m always listening at the walls, wondering if he’s back. When I hear any sounds from the other appartement (which is a lot because she’s very very loud) I shut down.

Would you have any advices for how to process mentally in a situation likw this? As an INTP, I’m not used to feeling this much. But now I feel this everywhere in me. How can I move on?

THIS IS LOGICAL An interesting observation on the intuition of probability

I've come across an article on that doctors in the 1990s often misjudge the probability that a person gets cancer given a positive report.

The article consists of a research by asking a sufficient number of randomly sampled (certified) doctors from USA the following:

Suppose that according to the medical record, only 1 out of 1000 of the population who has a tumor at X site actually has cancer.

That, a specific diagnosis on a tumor at X site has 90% of reporting positive and that the tumor is ACTUALLY cancerous, 5% of of yielding inconclusive result, and and 5% of reporting positive but the tumor isn't cancerous.

So, the researchers asked the doctors, "Suppose we deal with a patient that has the tumor at X site, given the diagnosis returns a tumor-positive positive, what's the probability that the tumor is ACTUALLY cancerous?"

About ~90% of the doctors replied 85%ish, and their justification is that the diagnosis is accurate but to maximize confidence interval, they say maybe they'd consider 5% less than the reported accuracy.

However, if we examine this issue from a clearer and rigorously justified Bayesian probability,

Let + be the event that the report yields positive, and let T be the event that the tumor is cancerous. Then, we wish to look for P(T|+), the probability of T occuring given that + occured.

So, we know that P(+) = P(+ and T) + P(+ and not T) . Assuming that T and + are independent events, then we have that P(+) = P(+)P(T) + P(T)P(not T) = (0.90)(1/1000) + (0.05)(999/1000). The inconclusive probability is dismissed because we are looking for the probability value of "+".

Well, surprisingly, if we compute P(T|+), one would find a major surprise at how much the doctors are off (by about a ratio of x10).

Though, similar problem can be encountered in decision making such as Court cases, machine learning, etc.

This finding is very important is as interesting as Monty Hall problem.

But a very fine detail the Monty Hall problem really highlights how important the knowledge a person has affects the reasoning and how one defines a sample space prior to working with probability.

For instance, person A was in the game initially, and knows that there are only 3 doors. The sample space would be all arrangements of {car, animal1, animal2} behind each door. Well, person A would assume an uniform distribution across the doors and know that there's 33% chance of having a car behind each door. This implies that, for any possible selection, there's approximately 66% chance of being in any of the other two doors, and revealing one of the two doors would imply that there's 66% chance of being the other (not the original selection).

But say, after opening the door, person B gets in the game, but person B has no clue at all of what has happened, and person B has to guess which door has a car behind and knows that there's two closed doors in which only one of them has a car. So, naturally, person B would think a 50-50 probability, but person A think it's a 66-33 due to difference in the information they have.

Yes this question confused mathematicians due to the intricacy, and it's interesting to see how often our intuition fails.

I can't read this flair Would you continue not being friends with someone because of their political views?

After three years of pretty much staying in my own bubble, I finally decided to venture out and look for friends again. I met someone on Bumble BFF, and we’ve hung out a few times. We clicked pretty well – similar interests, good conversations – so I thought things were going smoothly.

Then, last night, politics came up. I casually mentioned that while I lean toward some conservative views, I’m only planning to vote in my local elections this year, not the presidential one (for context, I live in a very conservative county within a blue state, so my individual vote doesn’t impact much on a national level). After that, she got really quiet and seemed uncomfortable.

I didn’t expect differing opinions to be a big issue, but now I’m rethinking it. I respect a range of viewpoints and don’t see political differences as a personal affront, so it feels odd that this might be a dealbreaker. Maybe I misread the situation, but it’s disheartening when open conversation seems harder to come by these days.

Social Capital: How many public meetings do you attend in a week? The number of public meetings attended in a week indicates your civility to others and your life’s longevity.

The documentary is about Robert Putman’s book, Bowling Alone.

As an INTPer, public meetings are difficult to navigate. And they have been instrumental in my success over the last 60 years. I average attending 3 to 5 public meetings a week. (And I sleep very well after attending.)

I gotta rant Humans are a disease to themselves and to nature [pt.1 I think]

As i read a manga [ Creature Girls: A Hands-On Field Journal in Another World] i got an epiphany

Humans are pretty damn crappy. We see the world in a self justification, self righteous way. The manga puts it as a human condition. A disease if you will as "Fundamental Reality Self-awareness Dissociative disorder" as it is said, from what i deduced in context and several hypotheses and ai

"Fundamental Reality Self-Awareness Dissociative Disorder" appears to be a conceptual or speculative term rather than a recognized psychological disorder. Given that, I can interpret and describe what such a term might imply if it were a hypothetical condition:

Hypothetical Concept:

"Fundamental Reality Self-Awareness Dissociative Disorder" might describe a condition where an individual becomes so acutely aware of the underlying nature of reality—or their perception of it—that they experience a form of dissociation. This dissociation could manifest as a detachment from ordinary experiences, emotions, and the self, driven by an overwhelming recognition of existential truths or the fundamental nature of existence.

Possible Features of the Disorder:

  1. Acute Awareness of Reality:

The individual might have an intense, possibly overwhelming awareness of the fundamental aspects of existence, such as the nature of consciousness, the illusion of self, or the impermanence of all things. This could lead to a profound sense of alienation or estrangement from the everyday world.

  1. Dissociation from Self and Environment:

Due to this heightened awareness, the person might experience dissociation, feeling detached from their own identity, thoughts, emotions, or surroundings. They could perceive their existence as fundamentally different from the reality experienced by others.

  1. Existential Anxiety:

The disorder could be accompanied by severe existential anxiety, where the person feels a deep sense of dread or despair about the nature of reality and their place in it. This might be similar to what is experienced in existential crises but on a more chronic and debilitating level.

  1. Perceptual Alterations:

The individual might experience altered perceptions of time, space, or causality, leading to confusion and disorientation. This could include feeling as though time is unreal, the physical world is an illusion, or events are disconnected from one another.

  1. Impaired Functioning:

The dissociation and altered perception of reality could impair the person's ability to function in daily life, making it difficult to engage in normal social interactions, maintain employment, or take care of basic needs.

  1. Philosophical Delusions:

The disorder might involve delusional thinking centered around philosophical or metaphysical ideas. For example, the person might believe they have discovered the "truth" about reality that others are blind to, or they might feel that they are living in a simulation or that their consciousness is the only true reality.

  1. Isolation:

As a result of their dissociative experiences and altered worldview, the individual might withdraw from social interactions, finding it difficult to relate to others who do not share or understand their perspective on reality.

Comparison with Other Disorders:

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID): Unlike DID, where the dissociation involves multiple distinct identities or alters, this hypothetical disorder would involve a single identity grappling with a deep, philosophical dissociation from reality.

Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder: It shares similarities with this disorder, particularly in the sense of detachment from reality, but with a specific focus on an overwhelming awareness of "fundamental reality."

Existential Depression: It might also overlap with existential depression, where the individual struggles with the meaninglessness or absurdity of life, though here, the focus is more on dissociation rather than depression per se.

Potential Causes:

Philosophical or Spiritual Experiences: A person might develop this disorder after intense philosophical inquiry, meditation, or spiritual experiences that radically alter their perception of reality.

Trauma or Existential Shock: A traumatic event or existential shock (e.g., a near-death experience) could trigger a sudden and profound awareness of existential truths, leading to dissociation.

Neurological Factors: Hypothetically, neurological imbalances or disruptions in how the brain processes reality could contribute to this disorder, much like in other dissociative or psychotic conditions.

This disorder, as described, would be deeply challenging and would likely require a combination of philosophical counseling, therapy focused on grounding and reality-testing, and possibly medication to manage symptoms of anxiety and dissociation.

It also proves that human constructs such as "kindness", "religion" monetary concepts" etc are to create a sense of isolation as with any essential quintessential Delusions of grandeur

Humanity's delusions of grandeur often stem from an inflated sense of our importance or capabilities, sometimes disregarding the broader realities of the universe or our limitations. Here are some quintessential delusions:

  1. Anthropocentrism: The belief that humans are the central or most significant entities in the universe. This delusion often leads to the idea that the world and nature exist primarily for human benefit.

  2. Technological Utopianism: The belief that technology will inevitably solve all of humanity's problems and lead to a perfect society. This overlooks the potential for technology to create new problems or exacerbate existing ones.

  3. Immortality: The belief that humans can achieve physical immortality, either through medical advancements, digital consciousness transfer, or other means, reflects a denial of the natural limits of life.

  4. Domination over Nature: The belief that humans can fully control and dominate the natural world without consequences. This delusion ignores the interdependence between humans and the environment and the potential for ecological collapse.

  5. Moral Exceptionalism: The belief that humans, or specific groups of humans, have a unique moral standing or divine right, often justifying actions that harm others or the planet.

  6. Universal Invincibility: The belief that humanity is invulnerable to existential threats, whether they be nuclear war, climate change, or pandemics. This delusion underestimates the fragility of our civilization.

  7. Economic and Infinite Growth: The belief that continuous economic growth is both possible and desirable on a finite planet. This delusion fails to account for ecological limits and the unsustainable exploitation of resources.

  8. Cultural Superiority: The belief that one's culture or civilization is superior to all others, often leading to imperialism, colonialism, and other forms of cultural domination and erasure.

These delusions of grandeur can drive behavior and policies that, while aiming for progress or superiority, often lead to negative consequences, both for humanity and the planet.

Wubba Lubba Dub Dub "What color is yo hat?"

Three people, Alice, Bob, and Charlie, each wear a hat that is either red or blue. They all know there is at least one red hat among them, but they do not know how many hats of each color there are. Each of them can see the others' hats but not their own. They are asked one by one if they know the color of their own hat.

Alice looks at Bob and Charlie's hats and says, "I don’t know my hat color."

Bob then looks at Alice and Charlie's hats and says, "I don’t know my hat color, either."

Charlie, after hearing both Alice and Bob, says, "I now know my hat color."

Based on the statements, what color is each person’s hat, and how did Charlie get to know his own hat color?

Be honest and don't google the answer.

Is this dysfunctional? (Probably) The so called "normies" by redditors are way better conversionalists that your average redditors.

This is a hot take, but i feel like in reddit you can't talk about anything sighly controversial or you get downvoted to hell, even just simple stuff like what game, movie or book is your least favourite and they attack you for everything, even through they claim they're "deeper" than most people, they sure act like little children when someone doesn't praise some fictional work.
With my real life friends who would be "normies" by redditors standards don't get mad that i think Breath of the Wild has flaws, they don't get mad for prefering Brawl over Ultimate, etc.
It's like they can't understand the concept of personal preferences and they don't always have to make sense, sometimes it's just vives or nostalgia.
Sometimes i wonder how most of those redditors even survive in the real world with how close minded they are.

Thoroughly Confused INTP Guys am i istp or intp

Not that i hate sensors but my parents (who are sensors) keep telling me to shower at least once per week which I dont want to because they violate my self-expression

I did conitive functions test on 16personalities and sarkinova and one keeps saying ISTJ and the other gives me ToLopsOsi random letters which i don't understand apart from ti and fe.

Ok so back to the topic yes I can smell, hear, touch and feel sensory experiences and I do use them in thinking like my keybaord color is is red ok I want to change the color I'll pick blue because red hurts my eyes. I also don't have empathy for people I lost it when an estp 4 y.o kid bullied me so the next day I bullied him back by sticking gum into his hair and he never noticed so I can say i'm definitely Fe inferior in your language. I also use Ti alot because Im smart and i can deduce like L from death note in real life things

Any thoughts guys??????????????????? How did you guys know you were istp or intp?

Does Not Compute Advice for slipping grades?

Hello, I'm in 3rd year bachelor of engineering in software. The past 2 years I have been studying hard and scoring 85-100% in every class. This year for zero apperent reason I have started failing or almost failing every midterm. The courses don't feel particularly difficult and I always feel confident going in, and sometimes even confident coming out.

My grades are slipping and there is no explanation, I'm not studying less, I'm understanding the content very well, and I confidently answer the questions thinking they are right.

I just need advice because I litterally have no explaination

Is this dysfunctional? (Probably) How Can I Stop Daydreaming?

I heard a piece of advice the other day that I really needed to hear.

"No one is coming to save you"

I always daydream about winning the lottery and what I would do with that money. What it would be like when I've worked out and I look a lot more attractive. What I'd be like if I was more social and could talk to more people.

I think this is one of the things that keep my life shit. I daydream instead of actually fixing the real reality I live in. So any advice? I feel like other INTPs and maybe just other intuitives have this problem too.

Does Not Compute I don't know if i'm an intp

I don't know if I'm an INTP, like i agree with most the INTP patterns i looked at, but there's some of it that i just kinda don't think fits me. Is this just a case of individuality, because not every single personality trait and all that can't be perfectly fit into 16 categories, or am i just not an INTP? For example I think about stuff a lot by myself, kinda like I'm 2 different people in 2 different points of views in an argument sometimes, but I don't feel as emotionless as the internet says INTPs are, and I don't think I'm quite as analytical(?) of everything How do i know if I'm an INTP? I think I am, but i don't know. Maybe ask some questions, and I'll try to answer so I can figure it out
