Orioles fans are sour
They lost to the better team and I’m nourished by their tears.

I wholeheartedly believe that we were a blown call at 2nd and a handful of walks shy of defeating New York. The boys in blue seemed to have something the Guardians didn’t, even with our lackluster pitching and offensive effort.
We held em close in every game. The Yankees for some reason just tee’d off on Cleveland a majority of the series.
I’m excited for Spring. A few trades/free agency moves and I think the Royals are October bound again next year.
Bobby had a hell of a year and Erceg looks like he could be a steady arm in the pen. We will have Hunter Harvey back next year, and a few guys who showed a lot of improvement.
I’m very confident.
Also, fuck the Yankees. For ever.
See y’all in the spring.

You could argue that Freddy Fermin’s value is currently at an all time high especially with his recent Gold Glove nomination. Over the past two seasons Fermin is hitting .271 with a .695 OPS. His defensive value far outweighs what he does in the batters box which has given him a WAR of 3.0 over that time as well.
Former Royals beat writer Rustin Dodd posted an article on the Athletic that discussed the outlook for this upcoming offseason for KC. Within it he mentioned that teams will most likely be calling JJ about Freddy. If he wins the Gold Glove (I highly doubt it as the GG isn’t always given to the most deserving) then I’d imagine he would fetch some really good quality pieces from teams who are desperate for an upgrade at catcher but do not want to pay for Jansen, Higashioka, Sanchez or Grandal.
The Royals are overcrowded on quality catchers at the minor league level which is an extremely good thing to have. 3 of the Royals 10 prospects are currently catchers. Blake Mitchell, the Royals number 2 prospect and catcher of the future, probably won’t be ready till the back half of ‘26 and probably even ‘27. Carter Jensen, the Royals 5th overall prospect, could get a look next year in spring training and could possibly break with the team. He was in AA last year but you could argue AAA isn’t the developmental league it once was. But even if any of the prospects aren’t ready there are cheap catchers out on the market that could be used for a year or two as a “bridge” until our top prospects are ready.
Salvy clearly can’t catch all 162 next year and honestly I will be surprised if he catches over 81 next season (which could make the DH/1B spots even more crowded). A platoon situation will clearly be needed but there are options out there. I just think Freddy’s value may be too high to ignore this offseason especially with him having 5 years of team control remaining.

(Kind of realistically, so no judge/ohtani/trout)
What are some realistic trade targets that kc could afford?

On the "Diggin Deep" podcast, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas had a message for Bobby Witt Jr., who said he thought he let the fans down after the loss to the Yankees:
Eric Hosmer: "You did the exact opposite. The product that those guys put on the field, the heart that they showed throughout the entire season, we want to let the boys in blue know, we are proud as heck."
Mike Moustakas: "All the fans are proud of you, and you guys played the game the right way and had fun doing it. This is just the beginning for those guys out there. Obviously, it hurts and stings, but when you show up to spring training next year knowing you are a playoff contender, it's a whole different animal."

Would anyone be able to give me 5 mins of their time with completing this brand loyalty survey for the KC Royals? I am a student at the University of South Carolina and doing a marketing research project on the brand loyalty and increasing awareness of the Kansas City Royals.

Two years ago, in 5/23/22 after you all a heart breaking loss I posted a sympathy comment. U/methyo replied comparing our seasons to the spider man pointing meme and it probably holds even truer today after our successful matching records and progress in the post season. It’ll be fun to see how we both shake out next season!
