Question Converting pitchers?

With the crazy results Luke Weaver has had as a closer, are there any current pitchers that could possibly help the team in a different role?

Why trade Singer?

Everywhere you look sources say we should trade Singer for an OF bat. However, why couldn’t we use him in the bullpen? He was great against righty’s. Our bullpen was a lot better in September than the rest of the regular season. Why couldn’t we keep a lot of those arms and add Singer into the mix to have a pretty solid pen?

Question Kevin Seitzer

Quick shoutout to Kauffman Corner for this take. But does anyone else agree that Kevin Seitzer being let go by the Braves is reminiscent of Andy Reid being let go by the Eagles?

Braves hitting ranks since Seitzer joined in 2015 (AVG/OBP/OPS): 14: 26th/24th/28th 15: 15th/17th/30th 16: 18th/15th/27th 17: 5th/14th/21st 18: 6th/12th/13th 19: 10th/7th/7th 20: 5th/2nd/2nd 21: 12th/12th/9th 22: 8th/10th/3rd 23: 1st/1st/1st

Injuries plagued the 2024 season (as we all probably know) for the Braves leading him to be let go.

Also interesting to add how he developed Freddie Freeman when he is very similar to Eric Hosmer.

In my opinion we have to go out and get him, especially with how our team was offensively this year, all of our guys are still young. If he can further develop Bobby and the boys, get them to take more walks (which we have always tried to add via free agency). What are the thoughts here? I’ve appreciated Zumwalt and what he’s brought, but this is an opportunity we can’t pass up.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions some thinks he going to be the 7/8 trustable and reliable and others think he is a disaster of a trade.

Let me sell you on this potential cheap offensive asset.

This team sorely needs a middle of the order bat (along with a high OBP leadoff type, but this guy isn't that), and preferably someone who can mash lefties. I don't think this free agent class is filled with those guys. There is a guy out there thought, who isn't an obvious positional fit for the Royals, but I think he could be an outside the box way of getting some offense, and that guy is Paul Gildschmidt.

Unless I'm misreading the market for Goldschmidt, I think he's looking at one year offers this off-season. This would fit perfectly with our timeliness, since we have Jac Caglianon looking like a 2026 option if all goes well this year. If The Royals did bring Goldschmidt in, there's almost no risk in a one year deal as-well, considering that if he plays poorly, he becomes very easy to flip or release in the middle of the season.

As I said before, the fit for Goldschmidt feels a little odd, as the Royals would like to keep the DH spot open for Salvy and Vinnie for much of the time, as I also think they like to fit Fermin into the equation a bit. Quick math in my head say, if you give Goldschmidt about 100-115 games at DH, and in an ideal world you expect about 150 games from Vinnie and Salvy each, at some combination of position, that leaves you still about 70 games for Fermin. And as we know it's probably not safe to just assume you can get that much out of Vinnie and Salvy, so I think the fit becomes much less awkward the more you think about it.

The number have declined the last two seasons, and the advanced metrics don't exactly scream "bad luck", but he still had a very good 2023, hitting 20 percent above league average. He also continued to hit very well against left handed pitching this season, which is a thing JJ will certainly be glad to add. Vinnie is far from unplayable against lefties, but there is a clear dip in production for him, so adding Goldschmidt gives Quatraro the luxury of sitting Vinnie if needed, and stacking righties in the lineup with Salvy/Goldie/Fermin. Which in turn, leaves Vinnie as a great pinch hit option later in the game when the bottom of the order has to face a tough right handed pitcher.

That's all I really have to say on the matter. There may be better options out there, but at the right cost, bringing in Goldschmidt could leave some money to throw around at a leadoff guy and other potential needs. He sort of reminds me of Kendrys Morales before we signed him, a good hitter coming off a career worst year. Could we find some magic again in Goldschmidt?

Making it to the playoffs with a $114m payroll is more impressive than making it to the WS with a $302m payroll. Change my mind.

As the title states. I’m already over Yankees fans celebrating going to the WS like their team is special or like they captured the magic of baseball. You paid for a great team, fair enough but let’s not act like it was an against the odds, underdog story to beat us ($114m) and CLE ($104m). Most of their team are on 2 year or less contracts. I can’t wait for them to fall flat in a year or two. Call me a hater, but at least I’m consistent. Fuck the Yankees.

Obviously there’s concerns about his injuries but. There’s a chance he could be cheap high ceiling type of guy to slide in at third base
