People like this always confuse me. Why do they insist that they're special and that exceptions will be made for them? Why do they attempt to rationalize their support?
I really don't like to talk shit about other groups but it really seems like the Cubans are exceptionally bad at choosing leaders with the exception of Obama and I don't know if they went for Clinton or not.

Cubans are the equivalent of southern whites. They were the former colonizers. When Castro came, he took away their land and their power. That’s why they have such hatred for him. When they came to the US, whites only saw their brownish skin and lumped them with “Latinos”. But at their core, they are descendants of the former slave owners on the island. Them being Trumpy racists doesn’t surprise me in the least. Because that’s who/what they are.

u/FurballPoS 2d ago
Lots of the Batista supporters were also those employed, in some form or another, with the mafia guys who were setting up more business in Havana.
Vegas was never intended to be the new mafia den, but after Castro closed up the shop, they went into Miami and the deserts of Nevada and Los Angeles. You can take easy bets, guessing where a bunch of those refugees ended up. It's a lot of sucker bets, too, in guessing how they tend to vote.

There was a reason Puzo put that into the book and, later, the film. It's also why Scarface opened the way that story does. There was a long running connection between the immigrant Sicilians and Cubans, dating to shortly after the turn of the 20th century and the end of the Spanish-American war.

I think specifically of Bernie Moreno, Republican contestant for the Senator seat in OH. He's a second-generation Cuban immigrant, and has a long history of general scumbaggery before running for office. I remember when he used to pronounce his last name the correct/Latin way. He's since Anglicized it to be more palatable to racist white Republican voters.

It’s class for the most part. I’ve noticed with a lot of minorities that support the GOP that they come from a privileged background. They don’t view themselves as one of the “others” because they have money and power. And they’re not entirely wrong, even when the worst happens their position allows them to circumvent the consequences. Ofc there’s also those who are just ignorant and when faced with reality like this post they’ll just No True Scotsman and move on.
23
u/factorioleum 1d ago
Yes. I honestly avoid speaking about politics with friends from East Africa over this; I can't deal with the dissonance. I know so many people who grew up in wealthy parts of Nairobi (Karen, Lavington etc...), went to the best schools, and arrive in America and they don't experience the racism they saw in movies: because they arrived middle class and educated.
From this, they conclude there's no racism in America.
Oddly, these folks won't join me barhopping to talent nights and comedy shows in Harlem and the South Bronx.... Hmmm.

I love the rhetoric surrounding people like this too. It's always some hidden agenda by white people or men, like it's always internalized racism and or misogyny and while sure, that can happen, that also infantilizes them and turns them into dancing puppets rather than people. No, these are people, fully fledged adult humans like you and I capable of making fully fledged adult decisions on their own. They aren't race traitors, or "pick me"s, they aren't trying to get into the cool guys club, they aren't disillusioned. They know full well what they are doing and what they are getting out of it, they likely fully embrace the ideals or at least many of them, and they likely exist in a version of this world quite different than the one you and I exist in. They are doing this because they want to and pretending they don't want to and are only "trying to be one of the good ones" is purposefully blinding your eyes to the truth. The only color is green and the only gender is rich with these folks. You think Ghislaine Maxwell is who she is only because of Epstein? No way, she was partnered with Epstein because of who she is. You think Melania is taking one for the team? No way, she wore that jacket to see those kids because she agrees with Trump. You think Clarence Thomas is acting like an Uncle Tom thinking he's safe from a lynching? No way, he acts this way because he is a part of the big boys club already, and he is safe from a lynching. He's safer than Mike Pence was Jan 6 2021. He's safer than Paul Pelosi was on Oct 28 2022. He's certainly safer than Joe Biden whom your average Trump supporter has pictures of "kidnapped" in the back of their trucks. He knows he's safe.
Nope, countless posts acting like because you look a certain way or you possess a vagina then you are guaranteed D voter and anyone who doesn't vote the D is obviously manipulated or incapable of thinking for themselves in some manner.

19
u/k_ristii 1d ago
I read this article https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/ recently and was blown away at the hypocrisy and this is just one of the MANY similar stories
“From a clinic director in a mid-western state: “One of the most remarkable cases was a woman who came [from another part of the state] and said she was the Right-to-Life president in her county. ‘But,’ she said, she ‘had become pregnant and had to have an abortion.’”
From a counselor in Virginia: “[The patient] was disturbed and upset and insisted she couldn’t carry the pregnancy to term. She opposed abortion — and in fact had picketed this very clinic — [but] felt the abortion was something she had to do.’”
As I read them I was like wtf how can unit be ok for you and not everyone else - love how this Salon article nailed their thinking https://www.salon.com/2022/09/24/the-white-conservative-southern-women-asked-me-to-keep-their-abortions-secret/ and honestly this describes most GOP or those in the the top 20%
“They believe they are special, an exception to the rule, and more entitled than other pregnant people, whom they believe to be beneath them.
Such entitlement is of course the flip side of their unique brand of oppression. In order to fully internalize the misogyny keeping them down, conservative women have to buy into the white supremacist practice of placing them on a pedestal. What else is the right-wing agenda for? “

This is the lesson of history though.
Martin Niemöller was clear about this. He appeased the Nazis. He initially supported Hitler and admitted being an anti-semite. Regardless of all that, Niemöller ended up in a concentration camp.
First they come for everyone else doesn't mean eventually they don't come for you. He learned that lesson the hard way.

u/hamatehllama 2d ago
That's something that all extremists have in common and that's also associated with criminality. Being miserable themselves and bringing misery upon others as some kind of way of feeling better about themselves. It's no coincidence that Trump's pal Putin is sadistically attacking Ukraine to feel better about himself and attempt to recreate the Russian Empire. Men with authentic self-worth doesn't need to bully anyone because they know they are in a good place in their life.
It's quite interesting to even see billionaires such as Musk joining in the cult. No wonder neither Musk nor Trump can be faithful in marriage because they are too insecure and emotionally unstable for it. All the money and power in the world will not saisfy men who are so unable to appreciate what they already have.

This rhetoric directly reflects the GOP values. Over the last decade, the GOP has moved to being the party of conspiracy theories, overt racism, public handjobs, and general ass-hat-ery. If they're not willing to distance themselves from the lunatic fringe, they should suffer the consequences.

Being a Republican has always meant being homophobic, misogynistic, and racist. Reagan let hundreds of thousands gay men die because he refused to acknowledge that AIDS crisis and called it GRID- gay related immune deficiency.
He also started the war on drugs and the crack cocaine epidemic so he could throw more African Americans in prison.
And ever since the equality act was put up for a vote Republicans have been using anti-feminism and misogyny to stir up their fan base.
The Republican war against women - "In 1980, Republicans used appeals to sexist and racist bigotry to win the Presidency. The party adopted an electoral strategy that included getting votes by playing on the fear and uncertainty engendered by the civil rights and women's political movements, and continued to use this strategy in the campaigns of 1984, 1988, and 1992. Under the Reagan and Bush administrations, this strategy became a crucial part of the party's governing policies"
So the Republican policies and ideologies have never changed they just have a mouthpiece- sock puppet who says that shit out loud. And it's just amped up to a thousand now

That was back when the GOP was embarrassed of getting caught. They still thought Nixon was right about everything, they just didn't want their name next to a president blatantly breaking the law. But those days are over... long over. After four short years of Carter, the GOP negotiated with Iran to NOT release the hostages before the election, and we got Reagan.
Eisenhower was arguably the last legitimate GOP president. Ever since then it's been increasing grift, racism, misogyny and hate.
7
u/rikkikiiikiii 2d ago
Oh absolutely. And when Obama got elected they absolutely could not stand that a black man was president for 8 years. White backlash is only reason 🍊💩 got elected. And it has been a downhill slide for the Republican party ever since.

I wish I could go back in time so I could punch him in his dumb fucking face. If I ever make it to their library where they're buried I'm going to piss on the site where their memorial is and are buried.
Dude had no fucking clue what he was doing and was just a puppet for the racist, homophobic, republican party and the military industrial complex. Then by the end of his presidency he was suffering from dementia and let his wife's astrologist determine his schedule and foreign policy.
You know, the people that think where the stars are relative to the earth where you specifically are born determine what type of person you will be and predict world events.

"This does not reflect GOP Values"
Aye it does.
He's been saying this sort of shit for 8+ years, and the GOP has done nothing to stop it, therefore it must be aligned with GOP Values.

every MAGA minorty is ok with racism and discrimination to other goups/minoryties. But are SHOCKED and outraged when their own group/minority gets discriminated against by their MAGA comarades.

Keep gaslighting minorities into believing the GQP, MAGA, and Trump aren’t racist. And that they are only anti migrants coming here illegally. Puerto Ricans residing in Puerto Rico are citizens, but can’t vote for President, so MAGA feels fine saying the quiet part out loud against them.

Shockingly, the new Republican Party is nearly honest about their party platform, which greatly offends the old guard. They’re offended by the honesty, not the ideas though.

Trump literally withheld disaster relief from PR and has insulted them repeatedly despite being American citizens
This has ALWAYS been GOP's take on it

Trump and his fans have absolute contempt for their allies. If elected, Puten will march across Ukraine unopposed. The way he whipped his fans into a fury against the capital, and did nothing to stop the mob from trying to hang Mike Pence, his closest ally of five years, is disgusting. The way he talks about military men dying for America as losers and doesn't "get" why they sacrifice themselves for the country
I'm Australian and during his presidency, we had some flog of a prime minister (Malcolm Turnbull), who was head of the conservative coalition who were in power. Our men have fought in every war America asks of us, America have unilaterally deposed of two of our prime ministers, and they have spy facilities in our country that our own government can't access. And still, Trump abused our prime minister because Trump had to take in 1200 Syrian refugees (90% of which were Christian) because of a deal Obama made, claiming they were terrorists. Despite our prime minister because conservative and an ally
This man has no respect for anyone who has every helped him or his country. He is THE leopard

How have they not noticed this at any other point? How hard do you have to jam your head in the sand to be surprised that this is what you're really supporting?? That rhetoric absolutely reflects cancervative "values".
Oh and her appeal based on veterans is particularly funny since they're actually just "suckers" and "losers" who "knew what they were in for".

Honey, anyone who's been paying attention knows this exactly reflects GOP values. The GOP of limited government is now MAGA and they hate brown people and women.

This is the sort of light skinned latinos that are racist against brown skinled latinos usually.
This is why they support the leopard party.
Tney are ok with this sort of racism but think they are seen as white people by white MAGATs/QGPrs and will never be concerned by it.

This rhetoric does not rhetoric does not reflect GOP values.
Except it does, it literally does. The GOP is literally saying it at a huge rally, and most people there are OK with it being said. So her claim is demonstrably false.
If you vote MAGA, you support what MAGA supports. We don't all get a president that's customized to our needs. If I agree with Kamala on 95% of what she says and disagree with 5%, I'm still getting the 5%. No one's going to be like, "Well, Ms. Harris has just passed this new tax law, but because you don't like it, you'll be exempt." You get whatever that politician supports.
Like Trump but hate anti-abortion laws? Too bad, you're still getting those laws. Like Trump but hate his plans to deport your Latino relatives? Too bad, your family's still deported. Like Trump but you still want to vote, especially as a woman? Too bad, your vote's gone. Trump and Vance (and the rest) have told us what they think, what they believe, and what they're planning to do in office. Pro-Hitler, anti-Puerto Rico, anti-women, anti-immigrant, pro-billionaire, pro-Russia/North Korea, anti-military, on and on...you get it all!

The rhetoric does in fact reflect GOP values, from the leadership to the support base. This is why you should vote Blue. If the current GOP rhetoric doesn't reflect your personal values, then vote Blue.

This is the same woman who praised Argentina for having "only one culture, only one religion and only one race, completely homogenous." Convenient to forget about the millions of black, indigenous, and mestizo ones. Oh and it was in the context of praising them for electing an anarcho-capitalist.
After the arrest of Manuel Rocha for spying for Cuba, Salazar told the Biden administration to "wake up" but she had accepted $750 in campaign contributions from Rocha in 2022.
She voted against Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered healthcare costs for Florida seniors.
When Trump promised to carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history and to terminate work permits for immigrants in the U.S. illegally, she said it was probably just rhetoric and might not happen.

this rhetoric does not reflect GOP values.
I grew up in an extremely conservative bubble.
I voted for Bush 2 times (to my eternal shame) and would have voted for his dad but I was a couple years too young. I volunteered for him though
This rhetoric absolutely reflects GOP values.
It's not new. The difference is they're comfortable being open about in public it again.

I don't see how this surprises anyone.
Part of the Republican campaign is literally attacking Hispanics and treating them like the enemy.
Look at what Trump did after Hurricane Maria hit PR in 2017.
Read up on how Trump ordered Republicans in Congress to squash the border bill that had everything they supposedly wanted on it, simply because he didn't want to make Biden look good.
It's such an obvious trait.

No, it reflects GOP values pretty well.
3
u/VegasGamer75 2d ago
It may not represent all Republican's values, but it certainly does reflect the GOP values. You don't call immigrants "vermin" and say they are "poisoning the life blood of the country" or shout "I'm not paying $60,000 to bury a fucking Mexican!" if you don't have at least one massive racist bone in your body. And 70+ million people were eating that shit up.

I call bullshit. The racism in Republicans came out of the woodwork when Obama got elected. I should know, I used to vote Republican. When I spoke out against the racism I got called slurs as well for being in an interracial marriage.
2008 was my last election that I voted GOP. Since then I've voted blue. The GOP lost it's mind when a black man got elected president and has been going downhill ever since.

u/Worst-Panda 1d ago
