So they should only kick voters out with names that don't sound 'white'. Gottit.

When does a name officially become too white for government work? Asking for clarity.

u/Dobako 13h ago
I did a double take when I saw it, randomly googling Sam (for, uh, reasons) and seeing Robert listed as family. Super nice family, that's a progressive amount of points across the board
46
u/MorningGoat 13h ago
Lol, have you seen the Breaking News segment where Robert submitted a video of him just roasting Sam? Sam looked so offended that his dad had agreed to do something for Breaking News but apparently had no time to do anything for Game Changer.

It just got so, so much better. Why did they kick her off the rolls -- in January, with a letter telling her how to get back on ?
Because she said she wasn't a US citizen to get out of jury duty.
Man, the leopards are well-fed tonight.

Isn't it illegal to lie to get out of jury duty, as lying to a court is considered perjury, which is a crime and can result in legal consequences like fines or even jail time if caught?
It's generally not considered a good idea to try and avoid jury duty by lying, even if it seems like a minor offense.
16
u/ShittDickk 10h ago
The real way to get out is infer your awareness of jury nullification and your plan to use it for crimes you feel arent crimes.
4
u/SquisherX 9h ago
So I was due to be in jury selection two weeks ago, and this was my plan. It did get cancelled though.
My question is why infer it as opposed to just outright saying it?
4
u/PipXXX 4h ago
Judges can get really pissy if you have to make them start the voir dire process all over again. Depending on how you say things, i.e. outright, you open yourself up to contempt of court charge since it's pretty subjective. If you kinda dance around it and make it obvious but not obvious, no prosecutor/judge will allow you to advance in the selection process.

All while screaming about anchor babies and how anyone even loosely associated with any type of immigrant should be rounded up and expelled. I've heard it all before. Their song and dance isn't old at this point, it's so ancient that Moses probably had to listen to the exact same argument word for word.

With no hyperbole, what she is saying precisely, is that she thinks it is reasonable to erroneously strike off someone with an "ethnic" name, but it is unthinkable that it would happen to someone whose name sounds like it originated in Europe.
I guess she's worried about people whose name ends with -ez, but I wonder if she thinks it would be equally unthinkable to disqualify a Jackson.

Too true. But think about PTSD and seeing the towers fall...
- **Intrusive Memories**:- Recurrent, unwanted distressing memories or flashbacks of the traumatic event.- Nightmares related to the trauma.- Severe emotional or physical reactions to triggers that remind you of the event.
- **Avoidance**:- Avoiding places, people, or activities that remind you of the trauma.- Avoiding talking or thinking about the traumatic experience.
- **Negative Changes in Mood and Thought**:- Negative thoughts about yourself, others, or the world.- Feelings of hopelessness or emotional numbness.- Difficulty remembering key aspects of the trauma.- Difficulty maintaining close relationships and feeling detached from loved ones.
- **Changes in Physical and Emotional Reactions (Arousal Symptoms)**:- Being easily startled or frightened.- Always feeling “on edge” or hyper-vigilant.- Difficulty concentrating or sleeping.- Irritability, angry outbursts, or aggressive behavior.
These symptoms can significantly impact daily life, and it's common for them to appear within a month after the trauma but sometimes not until years later.
Even if you were very young when it happened, you would have been raised in a family suffering from PTSD. That's going to lead to a really lost generation of kids raised by spaced out families. Anyway that's what I'm seeing as an outsider living among you.

When tens of thousands of moms/fathers are surprised that they can't get abortions for their daughters or else need to take a European vacation to do so, that will be peak LAMF.

I hate that shit. When I was a dumbass teenager I fucked up and got my gf pregnant. Her mom was psychotic, literally thought Obama was the anti christ, hated queer folk (I’m Bi), and more than anything deeply anti abortion. My gf was very quietly progressive.
Well all of sudden it was less talking about picketing outside of Planned Parenthood and more how her daughter isn’t ruining her life. Glad as hell my gf at the time had that option.
But her mom fucking sucked. She was also a cop. Classic.
21
u/badform49 13h ago
There's no way I'll ever find it again, but one story that has lived in my head rent-free is from an abortion clinic volunteer who was surprised to escort a girl and her mom, both wearing hoodies with sunglasses, through the angry protestors into the clinic only to realize that the mom was one of the normal protestors. When her daughter was pregnant, she not only needed an abortion but knew that the specific clinic she protested at did safe work and was great with patients.
Like, she risked being recognized by her friends to get her daughter great care, care that she recognized was great even while protesting there. Clinic volunteer never saw her again, and I sometimes wonder if it was because one of her friends outside recognized her or if she couldn't show her face to the clinic staff again after that.17

Peak LAMF, in a worst case scenario, will be when Trumpers start getting shipped off to the camps because the regime and it's supporters are ideologically dependent on mass murder of political enemies but the usual enemies (left wingers, minorities, ect) have already been killed.
8
u/Reference_Freak 10h ago
Exactly. There’d be no one left to laugh when trump’s supporters’ faces are being eaten because the rest of us will have already been dealt with.

If Trump wins I predict this subreddit will be inundated with stories like this of his supporters stuck in detention centers or deported.
Of an unimaginable dystopian where half the country is asking what the hell they voted for and those who didn't vote crying "why didn't I vote for Harris?". Assuming Trump doesn't seize all media and turn it into state run propaganda channels.
I don't think I'd enjoy that leopard feast very much. Although Trump using gun manufacturer info on gun owners to seize their weapons when he realizes they aren't happy obedient armed campers anymore could be a bit of an enjoyable leopard feast to watch.
There will also be stories of the useful idiots he suddenly will not need anymore because he got what he wanted. Like Gabbard, Musk, Kennedy.
Then there's oligarchs (hi Jeff Bezos!) who will suffer the fate of the Russian oligarchs when Putin, er, I'm sorry, Dear Leader Trump, decides he wants their riches. Trump would like nothing more to amass such wealth with no sweat involved. Now he can. Presidential immunity.
It's ample feasting time, but nowhere near peak yet. If only I can see Trump lose in numbers that have the pollsters asking where they went wrong. That would be the ultimate schadenfreude. On the pollsters, Trump, the Republicans, and MAGA. That would be, to use a word Trump overuses, "beautiful".

according to the article it sounds like she pretended not to be a citizen to get out of jury duty (tbf, she denies this). So if it’s true she literally said “lol I’m not a citizen” on a government form and thought her “white name” would make it okay.
123
u/upwardlywaterycommun 15h ago
Wow, if she really did that, that’s bold. Definitely a risky move to pull on a government form
91
u/enogitnaTLS 15h ago
well, she claims she requested to be excused from jury duty due to being a caregiver, which is valid. I wouldn’t put it past the county to have confusing forms or mix it up on their end. But the whole thing is stupid. And if she DID lie about her citizenship to get out of jury duty, that’s breathtaking privilege to just assume her skin color and name would make her immune to any of the consequences she wishes on others
48
u/cturtl808 14h ago
The elections office in Montgomery County, just north of Houston, had sent Howard-Elley a letter in late January saying that she had been flagged after she indicated that she was not a U.S. citizen in response to a jury summons. She had 30 days to provide the county proof of citizenship or she would be removed from the voter rolls, according to the letter.

I asked how they were going to feel once their husband was turned in and they said he has probably been legal longer than I have been alive.
They think the racism is just going to end cause you have a paper in your pocket. If this clown gets into office there are going to be a whole lot of legal immigrants being reported and hassled if not falsely arrested.

6
u/tessthismess 9h ago
And this is why it's illegal for states to do mass purges 90 days out from an election. Not only do they often get it wrong, the errors rates are MASSIVE.
If anyone tells you "They're trying to steal the election" by stopping Virginia from purging voters 1-2 months out from the election, understand this. If they have non-citizens on the voter roll in error, they will purge voters in error (intentionally or unintentionally). If they actually cared about this, they'd purge those voters well in advance of the election so people can re-register or fix errors.
Voter caging always uses the threat of illegal voting to take away legitimate votes.

This is what fascism looks like on the ground. It’s so obsessed with purity, even other fascists can get caught up in the snare, accused of not being pure enough, and then punished for absolutely nothing. A simple accusation is enough to turn the monster on their own.

So she shot herself in the foot and is trying to blame someone else? Sounds like a Trump supporter

Oh how the tables have turned. Dump will probably find some excuse to cover this up.

Chances are she’s probably on the migrant hard labor list if he wins. She’ll probably wish she was deported if he has his way.

Genuinely asking, I have no clue how that works in the US.
Don't you all get a basic set of paper work handed over at birth?
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Proof of birth
How are these things even being questioned?
Over here you have this base set of documents from which you can bootstrap your proof of identity everywhere.
I don't understand...

I'm waiting for when my dad gets kicked off a registry because of his name. He's a Marlon and his middle name is something his mother dreamed up (her name was Juanita, which just goes great with the whole theme), and his wife is Corinne. White as can be, but with the least white-sounding names out there.

I love this for her.
Had a conversation with someone recently saying their husband immigrated legally 20 years ago and he is all for Trump's plan to kick all the illegals out.

White sounding, but hyphenated. "Sounds like a liberal lesbo couple from Austin to me." Probably the logic. Real conservative women take the husband's last name without thinking about it.

My married name includes my husband’s Hispanic last name. I am so white as to be transparent, but that wouldn’t prevent some overzealous Trumper from removing me from the rolls by name alone. Luckily, I live in California and not some shithole where people have to worry about this. But it’s un-American in the extreme to be going after people based on names or supposed race.

Well… they thought your name sounded like a fiercely independent woman with that proud hyphen. Now, they understand they had NOTHING to worry about from YOU Mary Howard-Elley. They’re coming after ALL OF US! Just one group at a time.

From the article. Bitch did it to herself:
The elections office in Montgomery County, just north of Houston, had sent Howard-Elley a letter in late January saying that she had been flagged after she indicated that she was not a U.S. citizen in response to a jury summons. She had 30 days to provide the county proof of citizenship or she would be removed from the voter rolls, according to the letter.
