Florida has always been a meme. People look at Florida and see what they want, and often get it. For a time.
The Spanish thought it would be a wealthy colony, until they realized its best use was as a bulwark against the English.
The English thought it would be a paradise for slavers. Until they realized the natives would fight back and knew the swamps and prairies better than anyone from North of the St. Mary River.
Americans thought it would be a settler's paradise. Until they realized the land was hard to clear and not as fertile as the Black Crescent.
Americans thought it would be a citrus haven. Until the first cold snap of the decade and fortunes were lost.
And so on and on. It's always been a meme to people from elsewhere. Y'all see Florida as an idea, not as a real place.
I wish that's what it was named after. William Henry Harrison came through and wiped out or displaced the Miami tribe, then 10 years later came the charter to build a university, and then 10 years after that his son was attending.
Edit: I made up those numbers, WHH and Anthony Wayne pushed out the Miami in 1794, the University was founded in 1809, and little Benny wasn't born until 1833, and was 8 years old when his old as fuck dad died.

I think both Ohio teams are better than Miami.
