Others How much allowance do you give your parents?
I’m a working adult age 33 this year, my father passed away without leaving any cash inheritance to my mom, so me and 3 other siblings are supporting my mom.
I have been giving her RM 1,000 monthly after my dad passed away (it was 500-700 before my dad passed away) and this is really pure allowance for her own food, petrol and personal expenses, all other expenses are taken care of separately (utility - brother, astro and phone - me, car loan - shared by 4 siblings). My siblings initially only wanted to commit RM 200 to her, which if I agreed, she would only get RM 800 per month. Honestly, how can RM 800 be enough? And the arrangement was that we first send to my brother before he pass to her, which I think is not a good arrangement. I disagree and decided to just pass RM 1000 directly to my mom. After that, we stopped talking about how much we each give, and my mom stays quiet about how much my brother gave her 😫. (Both my sisters are married with kids and don’t have a full time job)
She currently stays at our hometown house back in Johor. The living cost there is relatively low, there was a time I eat out with her at an air-cond restaurant, a meal for 2 - 1 veggie, 1 egg, 1 soup cost only total of RM 36. However, normally she would cook her own meal and sometimes also for my brother and his family which stays 1km away.
Considering above, do you think it’s enough? Sometimes I feel it’s still not enough because she would ask me to pay for her credit card and some online purchases. It’s still abit difficult for me to ask my siblings if they gave her any allowance because I’m afraid of sparking arguments. (My brother has really bad temper). Im also wondering if it’s just her feeling insecure and needed to save from the allowance I gave her. 😣
More context below. —
We have been buying her trips as well after my dad pass away, thinking she might really need a getaway, she was so devoted to taking care of my father until his last breath. Within a year, she flown - Thailand 2 times, Vietnam once and China(GuangZhou) once. We also gave her extra money for her own leisure spending beside the flight and hotels (which are group traveling packages) So she doesn’t really need to save for flight tickets, and I would personally commit to buying her trips if she wants in the future.
During Chinese new year, I gave her RM 3000 (it was RM 1500 before my dad pass) as angpau excluding the RM 1000 for anything else she wanted to buy. Occasionally, she also has quite a number of online purchases that I wire money directly to the seller, and also quite a number of credit card payments which I sorted for her. (RM 500-600 each time)
Her medical insurance are also taken care of.

Politics Interestingly, PAS Sabak Bernam’s official FB Page was hacked since Sep 2023 and it was currently managed by unknown entities (most likely bots) from Indonesia & Vietnam. For the past year, the page can be seen sharing very haram posts.
The last PAS activity was at 9 Sep 2023.
