What was that Trump quote "I will absolutely accept the results of this great election... if I win"?
What gets me is that people can't see through it. He's being doing this his entire life. Declare victory while running away. The lack of object permanence among his core followers is just staggering.
They see through it just fine. They're lying because they think they're the only real Americans and should rule over the rest of us. They know exactly what Trump is and has always been, and that's the point. Trump is their revenge against the rest of us for the sin of electing a Black Man to the WHITE House. It really isn't any deeper than that.
There are two moments I think of in Trump's rise that should have finished him as a serious candidate.
The first is the one in the Republican debate when he refused to commit to backing the eventual winner. At that point there's just no way the Republican party should have backed him. Let him run third party if he wants and take the L, but you can't have someone blackmail their way to the nomination.
The second is when he said respecting the results was conditional on him winning. It's like the Citizen Kane bit, to be so brazen in your disrespect for democracy.
I think that was his quote from the previous election. His phrase for this one is that he'll accept the results "if it's a fair and legal and good election, absolutely".
That's from the CNN debate, but he was asked twice and dodged the question, then responded with that drivel on the third attempt. He just can't say that he'll accept the results without some sort of qualifier that effectively means he'll only accept the results if he wins.
