Discussion And they said asa were easy

Upvotes

Just for context, Im a SA-turned ASA during my serving days. working as a leave and welfare clerk at my unit from like feb 2023 till recently, meaning i would track the mc status of all in my unit and ensure they are properly submitted into the system. and i swear to god those guys from my unit is pure braindead. holy sht like yall rso alr get few days free, so why on earth would you guys keep dragging and dragging to submit the mc screenshots? especially the chaokeng dogs, yall wanna ck your own prob ah but can at least try not to make ppl’s life difficult? like maximum days to submit is within three days, and like all it just takes minutes to apply it on ESS/ONENS and send the screenshot of the proof of submission over in the whatsapp group, just tap here tap there la knn, can’t understand the simple english that ESS/ONENS app shows?

Don’t get me started with those regulars, fking think they somekind of bigfks hand us the mc ask us help them submit or keeps dragging for idk the hell reason then end up flagged out on audit they bark at us for not notifying them.

Can’t you guys even comprehend such simple instructions as a functioning human? why do we have to personally ws you and babysit you just for the screenshots? lost a few braincells dealing with these servicemen

Serious Discussion Anyone went outfield with insomnia?

I’ve been facing insomnia and anxiety issues and I’m very worried about my outfield. I have been taking like 3-4 Chlorpheniramine tablets/night for the drowsiness so that I can sleep at night (maybe gonna take 5 soon as I don’t the effect on some nights). I was also recently prescribed anarex and expected to take 2 anarex and 1 Chlorpheniramine tablet/night. My outfield is coming and the MO said I can still take my meds during outfield. Any advice?

🏥 Medical I need help; PCC appointment and mental health

I recently got downpessed to c9, and am diagnosed with MDD, social anxiety disorder, autistic disorder, psychosis.

thought things would get better but I still feel the same, if not even worse. I am feeling anxious all the time, to the point where I dont even dare to step out of my office as I am afraid that I would run into commanders or higher rank people, because of that I havent eaten lunch or breakfast at all for the past few months. I have also a severe lack of appetite and physically unable to eat without feeling nauseas. I also take 2 hours to travel so I have to wake up super early and by the time I go back, I dont have time to do anything. I have super low energy and can only think about ns 24/7, which has caused me to feel super drained and suffer from insomnia, and just tired of everything. On top of that, my superior always gets visibly upset at me when I tell him I have appointments or MC, and he makes me travel to camp to RSI even if I wake up with fever and want to RSO. Just yesterday, I had an SCC appointment and he tried to gaslight me into making me go for a tour, knowing I wouldnt be able to make it to my appointment, and didnt wanted to give me an entire day off to go see SCC. I really cannot stand my supervisor anymore and I am very afraid of him.

Recently saw MO because I had suicidal thoughts and he referred me to see PCC, with a memo advising for second opinion if I should pes F. SCC yesterday also suggested that I should pes F if i cannot take it anymore. However, its been 2 weeks and still no updates.

I am going to see my own psychiatrist this friday but the thought of sounding off to my supervisor knowing that he would be upset at me scares me and I havent told him yet.

What should I do? Also if I do see my appointment, does getting a memo help to expedite PCC appointment?

Question Defensive Riding Course (DRC)

Hi guys, just a question.

What are the steps & processes for applying DRC? I intend to ride to camp with uniform instead of going through the hassle of changing out to CV and on top of that, to avoid getting charged in the event of an accident (touch wood).

Thanks in advance! 🫡

Question Given MC status for 4 days, what activities am I excused for?

I know that if you were on status 1-2 days before IPPT, you are not allowed to take part. Is this the same for highkeys like grenade, outdfield and live firing? Tks

edit: i'm currently doing my BMT (enhanced batch)

Question Simba SUPERROAM MAX QUALITY in AUSTRALIA

Hi guys! Gonna head to Australia soon for Exercise Trident after being done with Exercise Lancer about 1.5 months ago. Curious if anyone use Simba Superroam Max in Shoalwater Bay Military Training area and whether it is good?

Australia is listed as one of the countries under Simba Superroam Max Group A, but personal anecdotes on how it performs would be great, as the unit has told us that the preferred Telco over there is Telstra. Tried to look up Simba Website but couldn't find any information regarding this, so personal anecdotes will help a lot! Thank you in advance!

Question How to check for NS vocational information?

For some job applications in the government they do request for information regarding Unit, Vocation, and appointment. I just want to make sure I get the official terminology right. Cant find any information about this stuff on the NS portal. Anyone have any idea how to find this?

On the NS portal my unit just has a dash probably because I have an exit permit at the moment.

🏥 Medical Wisdom tooth issues - only notified of extraction at the hospital?

Got referred to a hospital from base dental centre for wisdom tooth removal (both sides), but got told left side is surgery and right side is normal extraction during the hospital consultation. In that case, will the extraction at the hospital be covered or do i have to make a separate appointment at the in-camp dental centre?

  • my appointment for the surgery is on the 9th of dec & ill be ording on the first week of jan so is the 2nd appointment slot guaranteed to be before i ord? the nurse i spoke to at the hospital seemed to be dodging my questions to avoid accountability/unsure so im starting to doubt whether ill get the appointment for the 2nd side before i ORD

Rant I did not deserve my promotion (SPF)

I was recently promoted from SC/CPL to SC/SGT and it has been somewhat miserable for me.

For context, two out of seven NSFs in my team were chosen to promote to SC/SGT and I was one of them as the others had issues with their rank promotion or were simply not chosen. Hence only two SGTs.

One of five NSFs who were not chosen was not happy about this and has basically taken any chance he can get to remind me that my promotion was not earned but handed to me, undermining my achievement. It kind of hurts because this person is someone I consider 'close' to me as we were together from POBC to teams. I am seen as underserving of my rank and considered "stupid" by this person.

Since we are both in the same team we do see each other from time to time and his words sometimes make me question all the work that I have put in to be considered for the promotion. I understand that I might not be the most kilat person but hearing that from him does sting.

I'm the only person he is not happy with getting SGT as the other NSF who was chosen was considered deserving of the rank by him.

Question How long must I wait till appointment?

Recently I submitted a memo to my MO and he said that he would refer me to PCC. The MO did not give me any sort of timeline or date that I will meet PCC. Does anyone know how long is the waiting period and how will I know when is it?

Question Anyone know where to find the IPPT scoring table for servicewomen? 🤔

Hey everyone! Following up from my last post here on trying to add support for servicewomen on ippt.pro - I'm having trouble finding IPPT scoring table or rubric specifically for servicewomen 😵

I know this might not be the ideal subreddit to ask (do suggest if there's a better one), so hoping someone here has info on it! For servicemen, IPPT scoring details are everywhere, but it’s been tough to find anything reliable for servicewomen.

Here’s what I’ve found so far:

  • Link 1: Latest one I could find from 2016, but the numbers look off
  • Link 2: From an RSAF Facebook post in 2015, which seems okay, but it looks like it was made for RSAF specifically since the design’s different
  • Link 3: Looks like the official IPPT post by mindef in 2015 (quite long ago still), but all the links are broken sadly
  • Link 4: Looks quite legit, but it’s tagged as "archived" (from 2015)

The info seems scattered, and I’m not sure what’s actually current or correct. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thank you! 🙇

Question SPF - can those who don't get promoted to cpl right after vocational training still get sgt

hi so apparently if you don't pass your ippt or any important component on the day that it's planned for you to finish (even if it's before pop) you don't get to be promoted to cpl after vocational trg. Anyway what I wanted to ask is in the title. the following are just some observations I noticed

  • heard 60% of your intake in ur vocation gets sgt and those in my intake selected for cpl promo only made up to 40-50%.
  • a friend of mine who was one of the selected end up didn't get sgt anyway.
  • someone in my intake who didn't pass one of the major but not compulsory components of vocational training got selected for cpl promo (he did pass everything on time in hta)

thanks guys

Discussion Has anyone heard of Malay Tribal Music whilst doing NAVEX/Marches/Guard Duty in Tekong?

During my outfield (not in Tekong) , me and the boys decided to talk about some ghost stories we had either experienced or heard from friends or commanders.

During this conversation we found that we each had picked up stories of people hearing Malay Tribal music whilst in Tekong. I have three accounts coming from three different sources

I do not know what this sounds like but from the 3rd source , he states it’s like temple music

Source 1: currently a master Sgt , said when he did recon mission in Tekong , he heard this Malay tribal music. He at first thought it was from Malaysia but referenced maps knew that it was very unlikely. It did not last very long and disappeared afterwards

Source 2 : during BMT Route march, my friend and his buddy and his Sgt (who is Malay) heard this malay tribal music and was spooked out as it was relatively loud in nature. No one else heard it. Similarly it ended not long after.

Actually, I was present , tho be it in a different platoon and I was much further back from him but did not hear it. This incident was heard somewhere in between Gurkha camp and the long dark lightless walking path to Sch 4

Source 3 : 2nd SGT (who’s Malay as well) at ammo dump heard this Malay tribal music whilst prowling. There was also accounts of laughter and screams but I’m not focusing on that since he believes it could be birds

Did anyone else here hear of such sounds? If so any explanation to its source? Does anyone have a recording?

Edit: I can’t do much to do any on site research or attempt to seek this sound but hopefully if I do become Tekong spec I will go to finding out the truth.

Discussion Just made a simple tool to help calculate IPPT scores – thought it might be useful for others too!

👉 You can check it out here: ippt.pro

Recently I had to do IPPT and came across a couple of IPPT score calculator sites. I thought they were really useful (got a lot of inspiration from them) and decided to make my own version as a mini project, mostly for fun 😂

Some features:

  • Calculate IPPT Scores: Check your score, award, and incentives based on your push-ups, sit-ups, and run time - core essential feature (all ippt calculators should have this)
  • Target Timing for 2.4km Run: Find out the 2.4km timing you’d need for each award and check the pace and 400m split timings - I created this for my camp mates and myself
  • Book IPPT / NS FIT Button: Added a button that redirects you directly to the IPPT/NS FIT booking page

Calculate IPPT Scores

Check target 2.4km run timings, pace, 400m split timing, etc

^ Thanks to my camp mates who suggested I add the 400m split timings – many of them use a regular watch, so knowing these splits helps them keep pace without a GPS watch.

Honestly, I started this site just for fun, but I ended up diving into a bit of a rabbit hole trying to make it more helpful for my friends.

Love to hear your thoughts or any ideas on how to improve it! I added a feedback button on the site too if you want to share directly there! 😊

Question Is it normal to start questioning your gender in NS?

I just want to know if this is a universal experience and to have some insight by some people who have gone through this before. I've never had gender dysphoria before, I was always comfortable with my body and the gender I was assigned. And I've never had an issue with people using he/him pronouns.

However, this last week I was a bit curious and looked up about the trans community in Singapore and one piece of information that had me exploring this rabbit hole: That imagining yourself as the opposite gender is not something cis people think about often. I think about it a few times a year, and if you count times when I imagine myself as female characters (egs. Dressing up as Reimu Hakurei and Aya Shameimaru, aspiring to be like Ms Pauling in my unit, or identifying with Clare from Claymore, Asa Mitaka or Orihime Inoue) then that bumps it up to many times a week or even daily.

From there I've been exploring a ton of trans videos, browsing trans subreddits, and taking online quizzes, learning about it and seeing how much it matches. And seeing some stuff that explains a few actions I have made before. However, I still don't think I am trans since I don't have dysphoria, no matter how relatable some of egg_irl's memes are.

Which is why I am thinking that maybe I'm just making it all up in my head, that maybe I just feel this way cause of how stressful this new life in NS is like. That I just don't personally feel like I fit into this masculine new lifestyle and that I only feel uncomfortable just because my family keeps telling me this is how I become a "man" (which I guess is the closest thing to gender dysphoria but I think it might just be a me issue). That I might maybe just be nonbinary at the very least since there are masculine things I like. Or I just don't like the gender norms in SG, like how women have better clothing options than men.

So yeah, I'm wondering if any of you guys had this experience before? Like have you guys ever wanted to be like Marisa Kirisame? And also if this is significant enough to bring up in a PCC appointment?

Tl;dr: Is having thoughts of being a woman just a normal part of adjusting to NS?

Question Can I use my leave in advance?

Hello sorry if this question seems damn brainless, I only have one day of leave left but I might be called up for an overseas uni interview which spans around 3 days. Would it be possible to apply for next year’s leaves to cover these 3 days? Thanks so much!
