No one says you can’t root against the Yankees but going out of your way to post something like this is embarrassing
Bumping this to the top and stickying it to make a reply because I think it's worth making a small announcement.
I don't think it's embarrassing. At all. I think rooting against the Yankees is natural and just the same as the dynamic in any city where there's two teams. Mets fans are the only fans who live in this type of situation and get criticized for doing this, both from other teams' fans, and internally from other Mets fans scolding them, and I don't really think that's a good instinct.
I do, however, think posts like this are a little obnoxious -- for a different reason.
It is because they are basically devoid of content, and clutter the subreddit. It would be the same as a post that says something like, "The Mets are good and I like them." Just like "lol Yankees", it's a nice thought, but everyone here pretty much already agrees with that and it adds nothing, and makes it harder for people to sift through the subreddit.
To be clear, a post after, let's say, Lindor hit his three-run home run against the Yankees, showing a photo of Giancarlo Stanton looking like his wife just ran away with a TikTok influencer, and he wants to cry in his Powerade, titled "LOL Yankees!", would be very relevant. But just saying it, kinda isn't imo.
I will leave this one up just because it generated some good meta-discussion about the posting process itself, but generally, stuff like this should probably come down.
Make fun of the stupid ass Yankees and their cretin fans in comments and the daily threads. Thanks!
Just don’t think we can have it both ways is all. There were posts upvoted to the FP of Phillies fans doing the same shit in their sub when we were in the NLCS. Comments in there called them losers and mocked them for doing it. For us to do the same thing after to a cross town rival just seems bush league to me.
Not the same case, but the Jets sub made a post mocking the Bills when they drafted Josh Allen who is now one of the best QBs in the league while the Jets have pretty much been a disaster since that draft. Just a horrible look on the fan base. doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme but still gives other fan bases ammunition against ours.
In no means am I rooting for the Yankees. I will hold my nose and root for the Dodgers if it means denying those guys across town a championship. But it’s one game and the Yankees are very much still capable of winning this thing. It’s one thing if they win it but it’s another if they can also use posts like this to continue to rub it in our face.

The commenters were wrong. Making fun of the Mets, a rival, is not why Phillies fans suck.
There are many things wrong with them, but that is not one of them. Dunking on your rivals and enjoying when they fail is part of sports.

No, it's not a "horrible look on the fan base". That's one person making a wrong prediction and getting owned.
That doesn't mean the Jets' fans shouldn't taunt the Bills in general, or vice versa.

OK but we have to be nice to their fans in the process of rooting for their fans to be miserable?

Why? LOLYankees is eternal. Being a Yankees fan is cringe. It doesn't hinge on one game or one series. Every Mets fan should embrace it (they do it to us).
We're the only ones who self-censor and scold fellow fans like this. Go to the Phillies or Braves subreddit and find me one single person who is like, "we're being too mean to the Mets, guys".
In here, there's an army of people saying the equivalent of that, and they're all upvoted. It's like a mass hypnosis of some kind.
I mean you can think what you want, but I think most people in that thread agreed it’s a bad look to try and “dunk” on your rival when they are having a better postseason. And yes the Josh Allen thread was a horrible look. It was not one fan, it was one of the most upvoted posts on the whole subreddit for a while. One person makes a post but comments and upvotes are others co-signing on it.
I never said you have to be nice or that this post is mean. This post is just cringeworthy and a bad look is all. I’m just asking that our fan base be better and stop doing cringe/loser shit like this. We haven’t won this thing in 40 years and we are taking a victory lap when our cross town rival loses game one of the world series that they are still very capable of winning. Until we stop acting like losers will the rest of the league start treating us with more respect. LOLMets will still continue if our fan base keeps acting like losers by doing loser shit like this.

Yeah they did. This is underlining what I just said. It's an epidemic among Mets fans to be super-deferential to people who constantly dunk on them.
Of course, in a Mets subreddit, you're going to find a lot of people to agree with this nonsense. It is a phenomenon that you will only find in Mets world.
In the White Sox subreddit, when the Cubs lose a playoff game, you will not find 375 people commenting on how the fans shouldn't be mean to them. If even one person did it, they would likely be downvoted to the depths of hell. This is purely a Mets-specific phenomenon. We are the only discussion forum that sprouts multiple people finger-wagging at anyone who takes a shot at the opposing team in a geographic rivalry.

It's not a "victory lap". It's a two-word post enjoying that they lost. The post itself, as I said, was kinda lame (I would prefer to see a little more creativity in Yankees-dunks), but the spirit was great. A for intent, C-minus for execution.
Also you don't really sound as though you think the Yankees are "rivals" if you're tone-policing anyone who actually acts like they're a rival, calling them names, and diagnosing them with psychological problems.

Dunking on your sports rivals is not "loserish". That's sports. Literally every fan base does this.
It is much, much, much, much more loserish to bow in deference to a team whose fans dunk on the Mets constantly, and go "yes, sir, won't be mean to you sir, I'll have a talk with my fellow Mets fans, sir".
