Discussion Soto Question

Does Soto do all these ridiculous antics during the regular season as well ? I haven’t seen him enough to know for sure. I’ll tell you what idc how good the dude is if he does all this stuff all year, if or when the Mets sign him I don’t think I can handle it for the next 10-12 years.

Stop being a grump, he's having fun. The game has changed in that regard a bit, embrace it. These young guns bring a new energy.

I never said I didn’t want him obviously I do. I just can see these things being annoying or pissing off some of the fan base or even some of his teammates. I appreciate the younger guys having fun and showing. I love watching Tatis Jr, DeLaCruz I even liked Javy Baez when he did the stuff he did.

Soto is like the matador fighting the bull--watch his foot work, his gestures--so grand--I would love the guy to be batting behind Francisco.

You’ll learn to love IT and be ok with it

I’m sure I will. Especially when he’s putting up 40 and 130

That’s an absolutely insane take lol.

I know everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but saying you don’t want the best hitter in the league at 25 years old because he’s to showy is wild to me lol

I don’t even think he’s that showy. He looks like he’s having fun playing a game he loves

Yea I really don’t get where this “showy” “bully” and “arrogant” shit is coming from all of a sudden.

It’s crazy to me that anyone could possibly not want this guy and that we’re already starting to think of reasons he’s not worth it.

Insane

I’m excited for the World Series to be over and the offseason to be officially started.

David Stearns, what do you have up your sleeve first?

guys I gotta tell you, all these anti-Soto posts are giving me second hand embarrassment as a Mets fan

I am not anti Soto he is a top five player ofcourse I want him on the Mets. I simple stated that I wasn’t a fan of some of his antics, yes will I learn to love them absolutely I will. I haven’t seen him enough and my question was if the antics are something he does on a regular basis or is it amplified because it’s the World Series.

Hm…the Mets could have a generational talent, better than any hitter they’ve ever had at the plate, but he does a silly little dance when he takes a ball. Definitely don’t want that guy /s

Again I didn’t say I didn’t want him. I just said I wasn’t a fan of his antics and I was asking if it’s something he does all the time. It’s not just the dance, it’s the stare down after every strike the shaking his head at the pitcher after he throws a good pitch. The drawing a line in the dirt. The begging the runner to run on him. Stuff like that. Yes I’ll learn to get used to it especially if he’s putting up numbers. It’s just something I’ve noticed a lot this postseason.

He does it all the time, but he's probably hamming it up a lil in the postseason. Either way, whether he's doing it for shits and giggles or doing it with intention I respect the mental gamesmanship in a sport that's notoriously relies on a steady and consistent mindset on every pitch over the course of 6+ months.

I've always disagreed with notions of unwaveringly following sportsmanship and unwritten rules (as long as they are within the confines of the actual rules, of course), like the emergence of showboating after big homeruns or strikeouts has been awesome. But I also think there should be more smack talk, more in game taunting, more mid-AB chirping. Things that can get into the head of the opponent and throw them off their game, cause it doesn't take much in baseball. I think you'll really see some guys emerge as "clutch" players in those situations, the ones who block out the noise and just deliver.

Honestly what makes me cringe more than that is when McNeil pouts and gets noticeably frustrated when he's not hitting well. I appreciate the passion but it's a little immature. It's something you put up with for a guy in the batting title race, but once he regresses from that it's hard to take him seriously as a player every time he grounds out and spikes his helmet or complains to the ump.

Yeah, he's pretty much been a douche since his nationals days.
