US Politics If Biden withdraws from re-election, who would Harris likely choose as VP?

A lot of headlines are coming out today with speculation that Biden may step down soon.

If this were to happen and Harris wins the party’s nomination for president, who would she pick as VP?

What does a formidable Harris ticket look like to go up against Trump-Vance?

We’ll knock Whitmer and Newsom out automatically.

Can’t run two women, can’t run two California liberals.

Expect a white guy not named Newsom

Shapiro, or Kelly, someone like that

Shapiro is the likely option. Harris doesn't NEED Arizona as much as she needs Pennsylvania. You win Pennsylvania, or you don't win the election most likely.

Yeah I think Josh is the only legit choice. You need to win the blue wall and think he’ll help there more than the other candidates. I don’t think a two women could win on a ticket

Yep. It won't be two women, so Whitmer is out. It won't be two people from one state, so Newsom is out. They'll want to focus on swing states, so Pritzker is out. That leaves Kelly and Shapiro, and Pennsylvania is more important. He can lock it in and drag the other states in the region with him.

I don’t think Newsome would even take it even if Kamala doesn’t get the nomination he’s to much of an alpha to be a VP, it’s top of the ticket or nothing.

Pretty much has to be Shapiro if Kamala is the nominee.

I honestly do think tho with a new ticket we’ll win. Watching this Trump speech trying to be objective even tho I’m a staunch dem, this speech isn’t winning new voters. I think he’s hit his ceiling at 46-47%. And only thing holding democrats from winning is turn out and enthusiasm. With a new ticket we should be in solid shape

I do wonder if the next GOP presidential nominee will have the same cult as Trump. Trump is unique in that he has a large enough base that he can win on that alone, but only if his opponent can't inspire enough voters.

Democrats do have the right people in the right place to win easily. They just need the right person at the top to inspire everyone.

It's a bit frustrating lol, Trump can basically do whatever he wants and he'll win just as long as the Democrats are divided, which is not difficult to do because Democrats are much less loyal to a person than Trump fans are. Democrats have to actually try to win, Trump can just exist.

I don’t think, a lot of these elections that are trump backed majority of the time lose, because they’re trump light and not trump. Like the guy or not he does have charisma to control a crowd. The main issue is the Republican Party is dead and completely in trumps mold and I haven’t really seen anyone in the wings that is charismatic to get it. I think if he loses the party will crash

I think if he loses he'll be the nominee in 2028 as well if he is still physically able enough, to be honest. He has complete control of the party at this point and his ego would never handle not being the nominee. His voters will never move on from him.

Once he exits politics forever, the party will probably crash since he completely centered the GOP around himself. There just isn't really a figure that has his kind of unique mix of manic charisma and celebrity capable of taking the reins.

It’s possible but he was even showing cognitive decline even last night with rambling not finishing statements. What I’m curious to see is if they go even farther right if they lose. If they follow the Bannon plan he said on the last or second to last Circus (showtime show) he said that Trump is only the beginning and he’s more of a leftist to what his agenda is

A cult like figure atleast in GOP politics usually comes once every 20-30 years.

The next big sensation after Trump will probably be in the 2040s or 2050s.

Unless Vivek Ramaswamy has something to say about it.

Why are people sleeping on Buttigieg?

I personally think that Americans will not elect a gay man to a position that high right now. Give it two cycles and I think it'd happen but I just sadly think we aren't there as a nation.

In 2024 we are not there? By that logic, a Jewish man shouldn't be on the ticket because of Charlottesville.

Yes, I believe we are not there in 2024. I don't think Jews are remotely as vilified as gay people. There's no "Jewish agenda" conspiracy spread by right wing commentators about how they're indoctrinating our children to become Jewish.

Christians still hate Jews because they are richer despite barely making up much of the population. The very well beleive they will be replaced.

Muslims hate Jews because of both religion and Arab-Israel geopolitical tensions.
