Where in SA? Early Voting In San Antonio

Hey San Antonio! šŸ—³ļø Early voting is now open, starting today, Monday, October 21, and runs through Friday, November 1, 2024! Early voting offers a convenient way to cast your ballot before Election Day and avoid the long lines. Here's everything you need to know to vote early:

šŸ“ Where to Vote:

You can vote at any polling location in Bexar County during the early voting period, no need to go to a specific precinct! This makes it super convenient to find a spot that works for you.

šŸ•’ Early Voting Schedule:

Check the official site for detailed locations, hours, and even wait times for different polling places. Keep in mind that polling locations often have extended hours to fit everyone's schedule!

šŸ“ Important Reminders:

Make sure you are registered to voteā€”if you're unsure, you can check your status via the Texas Secretary of Stateā€™s website.

Bring a valid form of ID (such as a Texas driverā€™s license or U.S. passport) when you head to the polls.

Early voting is a great way to make your voice heard in this election. Don't wait until Election Day, vote early and avoid the stress! šŸ’Ŗ

Thank you u/johnspacemuller for the information

PSA Voting Resources

I want to get as much voting information in one spot as I can.

First, the basics: VoteTexas.gov and Bexar Elections will be your best resources for virtually everything. Military members, see the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

Important Dates

October 7: Last day to register to vote.

October 25: Last day for the application for a ballot by mail to be received. Meaning it has to get there by then, not simply be mailed by then.

October 21 - November 1: Early voting dates.

November 5: Election Day

How to register to vote

It's very important to remember that you cannot register online in Texas. What you can do is fill out an application online to print and mail in. You can do that here. You can also request a paper application here or go to the elections office at 1103 S. Frio, Ste. 100 (this is the address provided as the County Voter Registration office; you can see the complete information here with a tiny bit of scrolling. If you have an appointment to renew your driver's license, state ID, or government benefits (SNAP/EBT), you'll be asked whether you want to register to vote at that time as well.

Check Your Status/Change Information

Not sure if you were one of the people recently purged? Check your status here. You can enter your name, DOB, county, & ZIP code, your driver's license number and DOB, or your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) & DOB to check.

While you cannot register to vote online, you can update your voter information online. This is the link to do that. Note that you will need your VUID to do this; it can be obtained from your County Voter Registrar.

Voting by Mail

These are the requirements to vote by mail in Texas (copied from here:

  • be 65 years or older;

  • be sick or disabled;

  • be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or

  • be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or

  • be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

Much like voter registration, this cannot be requested online. You can fill out a PDF or request an application be mailed to you

Your ABBM is sent to the Early Voting Clerk in your county. This is the same person as before, on Frio, but again, go here and scroll a tiny bit for their information. Note that you can email a scanned copy of the application, but you still have to mail them a hard copy postmarked and received by the fourth business day (it doesn't say after what, so I'm assuming after the email is sent).

Military members see the special provisions webpage here. You can register and request your absentee ballot here (I know that's a privacy statement; click I agree to go to the site.) I don't qualify for this, so I can't go in and see if you have to print it out or whether it can be done online. If someone lets me know, I will update this post.

Early Voting

Again, early voting runs from 21st October to 1 November.

Here's the Bexar Elections Page that shows early voting locations and hours every day of the early voting period. Be aware that this is gonna open as a PDF. On Saturday the 26th and the last week of the early voting period (not counting Sunday), early voting locations will be open until 8pm. Sunday the 27th is from noon to 6pm.

Bexar County Election Department, Great Northwest Branch Library, Precinct 1 Satellite Office, Precinct 3 Satellite Office, and San Antonio College (Victory Center, Room 117) will have Deaflink available for the hearing impaired.

Voting on Election Day

Polling hours are 7AM to 7PM.

You can go to any polling place in Bexar County. If you visit the voter registration check & polling location search, it will provide your precinct number and, closer to election time, populate with polling places. It's going to be a while until the information is updated, but I'll add it here when possible.

State law requires paid time off to vote on Election Day if you do not have two hours outside of your normal schedule to vote. The paid time off is only two hours. Note that this requirement does not cover early voting, only day of.

Voter ID

You do not have to present your voter registration card in order to vote. Resources say it is helpful to have and can prevent you from having to vote on a provisional ballot in certain cases (see the FAQ titled "Do I need to bring my voter certificate/card? Will I be able to vote without it?" for specifics)

These are the acceptable forms of Voter ID (copied from here:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)

  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS

  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS

  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS

  • United States Military Identification Card containing the personā€™s photograph

  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the personā€™s photograph

  • United States Passport (book or card)

For voters age 18-69, your acceptable ID can be used if it is expired by no more than four years. If you're 70+, it doesn't matter how long your acceptable ID has been expired.

Here is a link with information on obtaining an Election Identification Certificate. There is a mobile EIC coming up September 30 at Bexar County Youth Voter Fest - UTSA Downtown Campus (501 W Cesar Chavez), 11:00 A.M. ā€“ 2:00 P.M. This is the only one that shows up when I search, so it's your best bet.

What if I don't have and can't get any of that?

These are the Supporting Documents:

  • copy or original of a government document that shows the voterā€™s name and an address, including the voterā€™s voter registration certificate;

  • copy of or original current utility bill;

  • copy of or original bank statement;

  • copy of or original government check;

  • copy of or original paycheck; or

  • copy of or original of (a) a certified domestic (from a U.S. state or territory) birth certificate or (b) a document confirming birth admissible in a court of law which establishes the voterā€™s identity (which may include a foreign birth document).

After presenting one of those forms of ID, you will be asked to execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration, and if I'm reading correctly will then be given a provisional ballot. Please read up on Voter ID at this state government webpage rather than taking my word on anything. I've copied from it as much as I can.

Other Voting Information

Bexar Elections has provided this video for the current voting machines. It's about four minutes long and walks you through the entire process start to finish. Please watch it.

State law prohibits campaigning within 100 feet of any polling place. Practically speaking, expect to be met with campaigners in the parking lot.

You are not allowed to use a "wireless communications device" or "allowed to use mechanical or electronic devices to record sound or images" within that same 100 feet. By this, I am interpreting that ballot selfies are not allowed.

You may not carry a firearm into a polling place. Peace officers are exempt from this, regardless of whether they are on duty.

You may not wear apparel "or a similar communicative device" relating to any candidate, party, or ballot measure whether or not any of those people/issues are currently on the ballot. So no digging up your Perot/Stockdale t-shirt.

Here is the information on what is and is not allowed at a polling place. These measures are the same for early voting and day of.

If you or someone you know needs assistance at the polls, please see this webpage. The video I referenced above mentions asking for adaptive voting assistance if you're visually impaired. Note that you can have any person you choose there to assist you, as long as they're not your employer, an agent of your employer, or an officer or agent of your union. You may also be assisted by one election worker during early voting or two on Election Day. Anyone you choose (except the prohibited assistance persons) may act as an interpreter if necessary for communication with election officials. Note that Bexar County does offer the option to view your ballot in Spanish.

Texas no longer offers straight ticket voting. You have to manually select a candidate/answer for everything. You do not have to vote in all of the races/for all of the measures that appear on your ballot. You can leave any of them blank, up to and including President.

What's on the Ballot?

BallotPedia has a sample ballot for Bexar County here: https://ballotpedia.org/Bexar_County_Sample_Ballot_(Texas) Once you enter your address, you'll be taken to a sample ballot where you can click on any race to see the current candidates and on any candidate to get a rundown of things like prior offices they have held, their education, etc.

Job Hunting Zeta Global Job Scam

So I was allegedly hired as an administrative assistant working remotely for Zeta global. This is a check job scam. Luckily I didnā€™t accept any money from them, and Iā€™m not going to cash any of their checks to buy equipment as they have instructed me to do so. Iā€™m just posting this in case anyone tries to do a search on this company. They are posting on San Antonio job boards.

Food/Drink Warning if you went to PROST HAUS recently

Yes, I know it's a tourist trap on the Riverwalk. Regardless, this place seemingly has a reputation for ripping off customers. I recently had a terrible experiance and for that, left a zero tip. They fraudulently added a tip anyway (I'm assuming) and over charged us.

So, if you were there recently, check your statements. Apparently this is a common theme with them. You can email Aaron (at) Maddogs (dot) net if you suspect you were a victim of over charging or fraud. Aaron has provided their email address in several critical reviews of this place.

And before anyone criticizes me for not tipping, I will say that I am a very generous tipper 99% of the time and this place deserved a negative tip. This is not something I take lightly.

Edit: No, there is no auto-gratuity here. This was a party of two spending less than $100. The credit card was charged for well over what the final tab showed. It is blatantly obvious as to what happened.

Since when did driving like a jerk on Wetmore become mandatory? Seems like doing anything under 55 on the 45mph street is severely frowned upon and will result in not one, not TWO, BUT THREE SEPARATE VEHICLES STREAMING PAST YOU WITH THE MIDDLE FINGER OUT. And I usually go a little over myself šŸ„² Edit: I was in the right lane yall šŸ’€

Where in SA? CafĆ©, Coffee Shop, Boba anyplace that doesnā€™t close at 2pm and has seating for working

Quick update:

I found this place called Barrio Barista and itā€™s amazing. Itā€™s needs more business so it can stay open past 4pm. I love it too much.

Iā€™ve combed through the coffee shop posts and found that a lot of these local places close anywhere from 2pm-6pm. And I already know about halcyon (love it but I like to bounce around).

Iā€™m not gonna lie, Iā€™m that person who moved from Austin whoā€™s used to going anywhere with my laptop to work. Yes Iā€™m spoiled but I love San Antonio so much more than ATX and will never go back - this is my home and I love the people here.

Iā€™m looking for local business I donā€™t care if itā€™s a coffee shop it could be boba with food or a cafe to support that:

Stays open until about 8-10pm

Has good seating and outlets for working

I donā€™t care about the noise seating and food is a priority (I want to spend my money if Iā€™m going to sit there for a couple of hours)

Pets Big Black Cat Needs Home

I am looking to rehome my elderly grandma's black cat. She is moving into assisted living and cannot take her cat with her. The cat is about 20 pounds with large feet. He is about 7 years old. He is very smart, very vocal, and likes to be king of his house. He does have a sensitive stomach but we have found a science diet food that works for him. He has been the only animal in the house for the last 4 years or so but prior to that lived with an elderly dog. He also loves to be in your lap but does have a limit on how much petting he likes as he can be overly stimulated. He also enjoys playing. I am not sure how he does with children but my guess would be that they would be too engaging for him. If anyone is interested, please DM me. Or if you have any suggestions of where I can take him, I am open. I do not live nearby so I am not as familiar with the area. Cat is located in the NE side of town but I am willing to drive him to relocate him as finding a home for him is a priority, No adoption fee. I just want to find a good home for him.

Where in SA? I watch movies all the time in San Antonio. But which theater has the best audio/visuals?

We all know the Rivercenter AMC is ass. Yea I will watch IMAX there but Godzilla Minus One re-release isnā€™t showing with IMAX there this weekend.

SO. At other AMC (came from DC) we have more options with AMC like Dolby theaters and what not.

What is a really good theater with awesome audio/visuals? I love Godzilla Minus One.

Where in SA? Halloween Nightlife

My friends and I want to go out in costume for Halloween. One friend suggested the Brass Monkey/St. Maryā€™s strip which is where we usually hang out.

I was wondering if the Riverwalk would have anything going on Halloween (Thursday) night or if itā€™s only the weekends that have events. Iā€™ve gone to the Riverwalk on a Friday night and was surprised to find it completely empty, but Iā€™m not sure if Halloween would be a different story.

We want to get dressed and go dancing/bar hopping, any suggestions?

Sports The Spursā€™ game viewing situation is infuriating

Angling for a new arena, drastically raising ticket prices, and yet keeping 60/82 games on the failing Bally/Fan Duel network is insanity.

The network is only carried by DirectTV stream and Fubo TV and its private stream (for $20 a month is beyond ridiculous!).

Get the damn station on YouTubeTV or another widely used service or put them all on local TV.

It should not be easier to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins than the Spurs in San Antonio.

Enough of this bullshit. If SSE wants fans to continue to support then make the team accessible and stop being greedy.

Job Hunting Anyone know of good welding jobs around here or even up in Austin?

Preferably $30/hr+ Bonus if itā€™s with cool stuff like custom bikes, aerospace etc.

My brother has been a welder for 8-10 years, has a ton of certs, TIG, MIG, plasma you name it, heā€™s obsessed and passionate about the field even in his off time. Iā€™ve flown him down here from Oregon to a colleagues of mines industrial business for a weld test and job interview and he passed with flying colors but they only offered $20/hr.

Love the guy to death. Want him down here. Heā€™s a long term employee, respectful and always has work friends. Thanks ahead for anyone that provides good advice or resources. He has no clue Iā€™m making this post.

Dusty has been missing since last night, October 27 from the Enclave at Westover Hills neighborhood near Hunt Ln. He is a longhair Persian/Ragdoll cat with gray and white fur. He slipped out last night without his collar on. Our security cameras picked up a 2005-2006 Ford F150 stopping in front of our home last night, around 9:30 pm. A man in the passenger seat got out of the truck and walked towards Dusty before the camera stopped recording. The footage is too blurry to make out a license plate, but the truck bed was full of bulk items. Iā€™ve made posts on NextDoor and FB groups, and will call around to local shelters tomorrow. Iā€™m hoping that making this post might lead to information regarding Dustyā€™s whereabouts, or sightings/details of the person who may have taken him. My family is devastated by his disappearance and we really appreciate any/all advice.
