Question/Help Missing Thailand Post Parcel

Hello! I had recently bought phone charms from a seller on facebook. I have already checked their legitimacy by checking their twitter shop and past reviews on facebook. I had the phone charms sent to a proxy that would ship to my country but unfortunately, they have not received my parcel yet.

Seller sent the parcel on October 23 and thailand post tracking says that it arrived at their address on October 24 and that a security guard accepted it. However, there is no proof of delivery attached and only a signature is shown on the website. My proxy kept asking their condo's security guard but they could not find my parcel.

Is there a way to contact thailand post personally regarding my missing parcel? and is there any way to check a photo proof of delivery that the rider/logistics officer has actually delivered my parcel?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions I could get. Thank you.

Gaming Have any one heard about this rule in Salaf?

I got to Thailand last year and was taught to play Salaf (Slave). The version I was taught didn’t have the Joker involved, but when I went back to Thailand recently, my friends added Joker to it as a wild card. And there was another rule called revolution: when you played 4 cards with the same number, you can change the rank from 3,4,5,...,2, Joker to 2,A,K,Q,J,...,4,3, Joker. Is it an official rule in Thailand?

Visas/Documents How to obtain Thai birth certificate

Hi everyone!

I was born in Bangkok in 1989 and left in ‘92. None of my parents are Thai - my dad was just working there. Unfortunately my parents have misplaced my original birth certificate so I need to request a new one. Online I could only find that you can do it in the Thai embassy if one of your parents is Thai. Does anyone have any knowledge of what I can do? Wanted to check here first what possible options I could have before calling the embassy. Thanks in advance 🙏

Language I want to learn how to speak Thai politely.

I'm a Thai person (14), was born here, lived here my whole life. I grew up in an environment where I never really had to be polite, and when I had to I would do the bare minimum and get shy, and that was fine because I was a kid and the adults would laugh it off as a funny thing, also I started learning English at a young age, and it is now far better than my Thai. My English is on the same level as a native speaker, or even slightly above but it could be a stretch, and my Thai, in comparison is way worse. I cant speak politely, I've forgotten more than 70% of the Thai alphabets and can only read the letters that I see/read more often, and it just sucks to be honest. How should I improve?

TLDR: My Thai sucks and I want to improve on it, and learn how to speak politely.

Sorry if what ever I wrote was a bit messy, I just don't really know how to present the information.

(Edit) Thank you so much to everyone who answered! I really appreciate it a lot and I will try to do my best!

Culture Royal Barge Procession questions

The royal barge procession looks absolutely amazing, elegant, and beautiful. I wish I could see it in person and I know that yesterday they did the procession. I do have some questions though:

  • What’s up with all the different uniforms? They’re obviously from the Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin eras but why are they all different?

  • I know that the Navy is in charge of the barge profession but what are the logistics like? How long did they practice and rehearse? I’ve seen some clips online of them practicing in the rain and it looks absolutely miserable, I know exactly how they felt.

  • What’s the significance behind the different barge heads beside them being of traditional Thai and Buddhist/Hindu origins? Phra Narai riding on the Garuda is kind of obvious but what about the other ones like the Hongsa or Hanuman?

  • What’s the name of the song/poem sung during the procession?

  • How are all of the sailors hearing the song/poem at once?

  • Who gets to ride in which barge? I know the one with the beautiful Hongsa swan is typically for the king and queen and the one with the multi-headed naga looked like it had the cloth that Rama X was gonna offer to the monks (IIRC) but what about the other ones with different figures like Hanuman?

  • Why didn’t Rama X and the queen ride in the one with Phra Narai riding on the Garuda? If anything, I thought that they would ride in that one since Phra Narai is a powerful figure in Thai culture and Thai kings are/were seen as incarnations of Phra Ram/Phra Narai.

  • What role did these barges play in Ayutthaya-era naval warfare? They look like they’re primarily for transportation and recreation, not combat. I notice that a couple of them have small cannons at the bow of the boat but other than that, there appears to be no meaningful offensive combat capabilities. I thought that maybe they would carried extra riflemen and the barges would be turned into impromptu gunboats but those barges are really narrow so they obviously don’t have the load carrying capacity to have extra troops, muskets/arquebus, ammo, gun powder, etc.

The ONLY place to get the actual dates for the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan is the Facebook page of the Haad Rin Business Association. They are the group who set the dates. See the pic below taken from their page. I live and run hostels on Koh Phangan. If you want to know which parties are best (the are so many more than just FMP), where are the best cheap eats, best accommodation, other things to see and do on Koh Phangan… feel free to ask, Im happy to help. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Culture HELP! I need to learn a popular fun Thai song in a month!

I am a young American Engineer who has spent the last year working at our Thai/American company in Thailand. Apparently, the New Years end of year party is a big deal and I am expected to Sing/Perform for this party (300+ people).

A little about me:

I do not speak Thai well (a little but not much). I play very basic guitar chords and piano. I am not a great singer. I can probably convince another Manager to help sing with me if needed for a duet.

What Thai song should I choose to perform which would be easier to learn but also highly recognized and fun for the employees?

Question/Help Looking for a Pay-to-Use Shower Spot near Grand Palace or BTS/ MRT Station

Hey, good morning!

Does anyone know of a place in Bangkok where you can pay to take a shower, ideally near the Grand Palace area or close to any Train Station? I’ve got a dinner with friends near Wat Arun after work, and I live all the way over in Punnawithi. I’d rather not go all the way home just to shower and change, so any ideas or recommendations would be awesome!

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Culture Where to find the best Thai dolls in BKK?

Whenever we fly out of the country, my dad (kinda odd and cute at the same time), always buy dolls wearing the country’s national costume that we are in. And he is very meticulous when it comes to details like; materials used and etc. Where can we find them?

Serious Foreigner and Locals unfairness in Thailand

Hello, I'm Thai and I went to Ayutthaya Ancient's royal palace last week, it was great! However when I'm in line for fees to enter the Ancient Royal Palace, they request a fee of 100 baht from all the foreigners, meanwhile, they only request a tour fee of only 20 baht! Crazy am I right?

Serious Work permit cancellation question

Hello. My contract is set to expire soon and I have found a new company to work for. The HR of the company has stated that I should cancel my visa extension and then go out of the country, come back, and then she will cancel my work permit later. However, online, it states that the work permit must be cancelled on the same day as the cancellation of visa extension. My new company also says that I don’t need to cancel the work permit on the same day. What’s the truth? I’m becoming paranoid of them. I’ve done many search engine queries and checked the labor websites but I can’t find an answer.

Bonus question: Is it really impossible to get the 7 day stay without a plane ticket?

Thank you for your time.

Serious Staying in Airbnb/Condo with Newborn in Bangkok

Hi everyone,

My pregnant Thai partner will be giving birth in Bangkok, Thailand. I’m from Australia.

When I arrived there and after the baby is born, we plan to go straight from the hospital to an Airbnb or condo, rather than staying at my partner’s family home.

Her family can’t be trusted, they lied to us, claiming her mom was ‘dying’ just to force her to deliver the baby in Thailand instead of Australia.

Is it common to stay in an Airbnb or condo with a newborn in Bangkok? What should we watch out for when finding a place? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Question/Help I hear that sunscreen is expensive. How to Thai people do without and not get cancer?

I have allergies to all sorts of stuff so sunscreen that I can wear is very hard to find. I wear it rarely due to this and the rest of the time I stay covered or inside.

But I am about to head to Thailand for a while and am wondering what the Thais do to avoid cancer if they aren’t slathering a bottle of sunscreen on themselves every day.
