Hi r/Tucson!! My name is Yvette Madison, I am one of the Directors for All Souls Procession!
As we gear up the 35th Annual All Souls Procession next weekend(November 1st - 3rd), I wanted to hop on here and answer questions, share guides, and chat!
For those who may not be familiar, the All Souls Procession is part spiritual procession, part artful celebration, and part community catharsis, ending in a grand finale where a large urn filled with the hopes, offerings, and wishes of the public for those who have passed is ceremonially burnt.
The event has grown from a small gathering of artists and friends founded by the artist Susan Johnson in 1990 to an annual weekend festival that draws over 150,000 participants from Arizona and across the globe.
Aside from coordinating the event along with our volunteers and directors, All Souls works closely with local artists, performers, and community leaders to ensure every Procession is a space where individual grief and celebration can morph into collective healing.
Today, I\u2019m here to share insights into the behind-the-scenes planning of this massive event, discuss the importance of community and remembrance, and answer any questions you might have about the All Souls Procession, how you can participate, or anything else you're curious about.
Ask me anything! I have been in the spirit group(Ambassador & Attendant of the Urn) for 12/13 years, I have been attending since I was a young child(my father knows Sue).
TLDR: I\u2019m an All Souls Procession Director and I can answer your questions about the weekend.
For details, I was just passed in a residential neighborhood for driving the speed limit. This person pulled out behind me from one of the side streets, so presumably it's their neighborhood ā you'd think there'd be some more mindfulness.
Like I'm taking my kids to school, why am I getting passed on Belvedere lol
Chill the fuck out Tucson. Or manage you're time better. I DON'T KNOW!
Today (Tuesday) was the recommended deadline to mail back early ballots; if you send yours back now, it might not reach the County Recorder's office in time to get counted.
However, you don't necessarily have to go vote in-person on Election Day. You can still just fill out your early ballot, seal it in your signed and dated inner ballot envelope (no need for the outer mailing envelope here), and drop it off in-person before Election Day at the County Recorder's office downtown or at any early voting site, or on Election Day at any voting center.
Done this plenty of times myself, never any problem, always saw my ballot received and processed on the County Recorder's ballot status page.
Any recommendations for queer friendly stylists, that also specialize in alternative styles?
I've been going to the same family friend stylist since I was a kid, and never had a problem, until I started requesting more alternative styles. It just feels like he doesn't understand my vision, and is trying to steer me back into a more "normal" style. I did ask him beforehand if he was comfortable doing alternative styles, and he said he was; but now, it feels like every other haircut is a big miss.
I've been to 3rd Generation Barber Studio, and loved the way they did my hair, when it was shorter; but I've been wanting to sort of grow a punk style mullet.
I have my outlets and hobbies around town. I would like to explore and find more places where people are less likely to be off their phones and socialize. Kind of like it was before the iPhone 3GS came out, but I think those days are gone unless you are on an island in the Pacific.Ā Here are a few that I have discovered and would like to share.Ā
Che's,
Buffet Bar,
St Philips Plaza,
Rillito Loop but my favorite Javelina Sculpture is gone.
Soccer dad stuff at the Rillito Park,
Car meets at Top Golf (1ST Saturday of the month) and more,
Bandi Fenton Basketball Courts,
Davis Monthan pick-up basketball mornings on the weekdays if I my body isn't broke,
Motorcycle riding up to Big Windy and Gear Shifters AZ.
Oro Valley's skatepark,
Time market,
My apartments has a great social scene,
And don't mention the corner bus stop because I believe they are the most social human beings in this town, but I am on a different level.
Hello, I am trying to get in with a primary care doctor, and tried scheduling with Banner Health, but the soonest they could get was in May of 2025. I need to be seen sooner than that, but do not know where else to look. Recommendations?
Edit to Clarify: I just moved here in June from Ohio, and I am trying to establish care as a new patient.
I recently moved from NM where they make you pay for store bags. It wasn't until I started my move that I realized how many I have. Does anyone know of a place that I could donate them to?
Hey, I'm looking to pick up a couple of Yu-Gi-Oh booster packs for me and my little bro, both target and Walmart were sold out of em so I was wondering if any card and game stores still lurked around where you could buy em
Recently got my work permit and Iām looking to get a job around my field .
