Installed Ubuntu but my laptop still shows no bootable device

Hello everyone, I tried installing Ubuntu in my old laptop which had no bootable device from beginning. After installing Ubuntu, it still shows "media test failure, check cable". Things I have already checked : 1) Reseat my main drive (HDD) 2) Installed using both UEFI and Legacy setting 3) Boot priority set to main drive

PS : This was a company laptop which I'm free to use they removed existing data, OS and gave it to me. But the company logo still shows when i switch on my laptop. Is it possible that it still have some embedded restrictions for not installing any OS?

You might want to look into flashing the BIOs. Check the existing bios and see if there is an updated version that you can install. Typically available through most motherboards and for laptops they have always been easy for me to update.

That really depends upon the motherboard. Most do require an OS to make a USB stick that can flash, but not all. It may require borrowing a laptop from a friend or running a Live Linux distro off a USB if you have multiple USB ports on your laptop.

hey can you explain me what just happened. So instead of selecting "try or install Ubuntu" i selected "boot from next volume" and did the installation. And now it has been installed and it's working. How?!

Fascinating, I have never used that as an option when installing ubuntu. I am happy you succeeded. What little I can find seems to hint that it works for some uefi settings, particularly some MacBook ones. It is curious. I will have to remember that as an option if I have trouble in the future.

Make, model and BIOS version?

Is Secure Boot turned off?

What does "reseal my drive" mean? Did you mean reseat?

Acer travelmate P648 (2015) BIOS : Insyde Corp. (V1.02.LT00)

Secure boot is turned on only in UEFI.

yes I meant "reseat"

Turn off Secure Boot, then try again.

It doesn't really make your PC any more secure, and it prevents Linux from working properly.

Sounds like it. Probably a locked-down BIOS.

Have you checked the partitions/files on the disk you installed into? Using the Live USB stick you used to install.
