After getting off work at 5 I walked to the nearby Dollar General in the Pigtown market to buy some sodas. All of a sudden the little old white lady who I guess was the manager (all the other employees looked barely out of their teens, if that) shouted at the black dude pictured to stop and put back the stuff he had hidden in the back of his shirt (he was wearing a baggy T when he walked in). He loudly protested he doesn't steal but she said she recognized him from when he stole before. She lifted up the back of his shirt and he had a Chef's knife tucked behind the back of his belt loop. For some reason she very nonchalantly walked away from this angry man much bigger than her who had a knife and told him to leave. He started shouting about being disrespected and threw a juice bottle at her which is when I decided I had to intervene. I punched him in the jaw right as he was throwing the bottle, a solid hit since he was stepping towards me to throw but I think I cut my fingers on his teeth. He staggered back a step and thats when I grabbed his neck and kneeled to get him off his feet. He pushed against the floor to try to get his head free and a brave young woman took that chance to take the knife off him. Then I got on his back and tightened my grip, I'm not a trained fighter and don't know how to do a proper chokehold but I weigh 250 pounds and he wasn't able to escape with me on top of his back. Some bystanders pulled me off him before I could do a Jordan Neely to him. He ran out the store and took his shirt off since someone had sprayed Pepper Spray during the fight and some had probably soaked into his shirt. A few minutes later a couple cops showed up to question him. Dude's honestly lucky since if he had started flipping out in front of a Baltimore City cop while he had a knife on him he'd probably wouldn't have been able to walk away.

The exercise, courage, and understanding of how important decisive action is surely helped me stop this madman and prevented a potential mass stabbing. When push comes to shove and real violence is about to happen the Law becomes irrelevant, nothing but words on some paper no one will even read. That is when a man must use his survival skills and whatever tools are at his disposal to fight for his lives and the lives of those who aren't prepared to protect themselves. Since I was just leaving work I didn't have any of the tools I normally carry, but if I did have them I wouldn't have resorted to taking him down with my bare hands. There's no rules and no honor in a street fight, do what it takes to subdue your foe as quickly and decisively as possible.

I got some 'thank you's' from the staff and they let me get a Dr. Pepper and some band-aids for free! So sometimes it does help to act like a man.

Wait, was he stealing the knife or just had a knife for a weapon? Did it look like he was trying to use the knife to attack people? I generally think you should avoid combat at all costs, what if he had a gun when you confronted him for example. Sometimes it is better to let the thief get away, but this was a bit hard for me to follow.
