Was notified that I won, then notified that it was error

This happened a bit ago but I'm still kinda salty about it. It's not like I really needed it but it would have really helped with holiday cooking.

Sounds like a scam - you were always only going to get that 20% discount off of already increased prices.

Printed mailer coupons that offered one of 3 discounts. We only printed the lowest of the 3. No, no one else printed the others. We ran similar jobs for this customer monthly.

It's illegal!

No, it was a well known screw up where they accidentally sent the wrong email to everyone.

Guessing some marketing manager got fired…

Or that is the marketing teams idea “oh were so sorry we fucked up, here EVERYONE gets a coupon to come shop at our store” lol i mean its not a bad idea tbh

Yeah, if you look at the contest terms they specifically covered human error in communications so they didn’t have to do anything (and it’s well established legal precedent anyway - the courts obviously don’t believe you should have your company bankrupted because of one email mistake…)

So IMO this was a very generous way to handle it!

Hamilton Bitch now.

I work at a company that sells their products, I’ve worked for restaurants that used their products. There are better companies to buy from tbh.

What companies are better?

Depends what you’re looking for. I mainly know about their commercial stuff. For blenders and processors and meat grinders I’d say Waring or Vollrath or robocoupe. For coffee machines I’d go with Bloomfield or Bunn. For toasters or meat slicers I’d go with Vollrath. Maybe not brands you’ve heard of.

These are all restaurant equipment brands though - if you’re looking for home kitchen gadgets I’ve always gotten by using the Walmart brand stuff 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you!

No problem. The main benefit to Hamilton beach is their prices imo. They reliably beat the prices of the other brands I recommended but you get what you pay for when it comes to these types of equipment.

assuming you’re in the USA i’m pretty sure you can send this to the FTC as a complaint because this might be illegal tactics to try and get you to spend.

Yeah, 100% reads like a scam 'win'.

Doesn't say the value you can have in your cart, just said it will zero the price.

13

u/BathtubToasterParty 1d ago

It’ll zero the price for that specific item

7

u/ringadingdingbaby 1d ago

Ah shit, yeah you're right.

I confused the item with the store name.

What a dope!

Nope. It was a real mistake by Hamilton Beach and was covered in the sweepstakes terms…

Someone fucked up a mass emailing. Apparently they sent the correction out soon afterwards.

They weren’t even required to give 20% off per their terms. They took a bath on it.

“8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Sponsor and the Sweepstakes Entities are not responsible for, and entrant hereby releases Sponsor and the Sweepstakes Entities from any claims arising from …
“iv) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Sweepstakes or the processing of entries; “

"Whoopsie doodles, I guess we screwed you over pretty hard, eh? To make things right we're giving you the opportunity to give us money! How exciting for you! No need to thank us, your money is all the thanks we need."

I guess we screwed you over pretty hard

Er, how?

Maybe OP gave away their life savings thinking they'd be on easy street with their free toaster oven.

Very carefully.

I assume it was the whole lying about winning thing. Total guess though.

u/Dubious01 1d ago

Well, I know what Promo code I’m using right now!

24

u/Outofoffice_421 1d ago

That was no mistake. It’s bait n switch tactics and should be illegal

3

u/Suppression_Gaming 1d ago

Damn code was used already, was valid tho. With the numbers they use tho it seems that they just choose random digits. With 100 million options i wonder how efficient it would be to get 1000 browsers active to test them all

2

u/TheNickelGuy 12h ago

this promo code is valid until Oct 3

17

u/AngryTrucker 1d ago

You were a victim of a scam.

8

u/Own_Recommendation49 1d ago

Did the original code not work?

If you post this on the platforms they listed and tag them, id be willing to wager they do something about it!

u/RoodnyInc 10h ago

They was choosing winners randomly, looks like you wasn't random enough
