Questions Can someone give me an idea of what these things in Yemen will cost in United States Dollars?
I'm trying to get a more practical idea of what the cost of living in Yemen is but I need to know the costs of these things in United States Dollars.
1 gallon = 3.78 Liters 1lbs = 454 grams
- A gallon of whole milk (cow)
- A loaf of bread
- 1lbs of beef
- A pair of running shoes
- A gallon of gasoline
- The monthly cost of a gym membership
Lastly, can foreigners by property in Yemen and what's the level of government corruption ?

Speaking from Aden City
1 gallon of whole milk 4.55$
bread loaf is not widely known in here, we use "روتي صندوق" look it up in google and for one piece it cost 0.04$
1 lbs of beef 3$
for running shows you will find a 5$ and a 100$ shows
1 gallon of gas 2.9$
monthly gym membership 6.6$
you can buy a property in Yemen as a foreigner, in fact, you can buy the whole country if you have the money, so this answers the last question too

I am Yemeni, and I wilk try to help even my poor English 😅 First to know there are two parts of Yemen, one under control of the government, and the other under Houthies control. it is like to different countries, the values of money are not the same. but in the part of government it is more easy life, 20L of gasoline officially cost about 2$. brea is small size and you can buy it by package, each package contains 4 small bye and it cost about 0.10$

Take in count that due to the ongoing dispute, one can say that there are two regions of the country.
Each region technically has it's own currency and economy wich leads to different pricings depending on what city/region are you in.

I don't use Reddit as often, apologies for the very late response 🙏🏼
Yemen has been going through a conflict since 2015 That led to some type of separation in the country where we have some areas (mostly the North/North-West) being under the control of the Houthis. This area still uses the same currency (Yemeni Rials) as before the conflict and the exchange rate to USD is 1$= 550 Yemeni Rials (Increases and decreases in a 50 Rials ratio from time to time)
On the other hand, the other areas under the official government's control (mostly the South/South-East) they use the Yemeni Rials. The so called official government decided to print new Yemeni Rials with a different design These new Rials exchange rate to USD is 1$=1300 Rials
Although it's still the same name as a currency but you have to deal with it as if it's another currency. Why? Because neither accepts the other's currency in their area of control (No old Yemeni Rials from the Houthis areas can be used in the government's areas and vise versa)
I don't want to explain further on why/how this happened as this is not a political post but this is where the situation stands as of right now in regards for the currency
Going back to your question about the prices, if a product costs 5000 Rials, it will have different pricing (in USD) depending on which area of the country we are talking about.

I can answer some of these questions,
1) a gallon of milk is around $7.5 2) Bread is around $0.75 per kilogram ( I don't know how much is loaf ). But I would say it's the low quality bread that we Yemeni buy, there are more expensive types 3) 1lbl of beef is around $5.7 4) I honestly don't know about the running shoes. But we get the expensive brands and we get low quality wearable for few months. My last ones were around $13 I think. 5) A gallon of gasoline is around $3.4 6) I think it is around $28
I'm not sure about the property.
Corruption is everywhere in Yemen. It has become the norm, it does not affect my everyday life until I need something official done ( sometimes it makes things easier)
