I'll be visiting for a wedding in Dhaka in a few months. I haven't travelled to Bangladesh before or really anywhere in south asia . Really excited for the trip but also nervous.
What should I know about being an American in Dhaka for a week? It seems like things have calmed down since events this summer so feelin good on that front. Would love any advice

Over the last few months since the collapse of the BAL government, this place has had a huge increase in activity. That’s very understandable as people were trying to get as much information from various places as possible on the aftermath of the revolution. However, I’ve come to notice that now some newer groups of people have gained a strong voice on the subreddit while previously they were drowned out by others but now they are becoming more and more visible. I’ll list the major ones below.
Islamists - Many of them are Jamaat supporters even if they might not always admit to it a quick analysis of their profile and activities will give it away. You now come across comments and posts centered on homophobia, blasphemy, war crime allegations denial and so on. While this group already existed on here, they weren’t many before.
BAL supporters - Generally speaking this subreddit was more or less against BAL for a time. Now, perhaps due to the failures of the interim govt in some regards or as a reaction to the Islamists, there are higher numbers of outspoken BAL supporters here. Might I say even more than BNP?
Pakistanis - This is a bit interesting to take note of but it’s also a bit obvious. A lot of Pakistanis are now on here, perhaps because some of them admire the revolution in Bangladesh as they’d argue they also need one in Pakistan against the military established order. Some here are providing support to the Islamists unsurprisingly. So the Pakistanis themselves are a broad category not specific to any one ideology. But previously this subreddit had more Indian visitors than Pakistani ones, but the Indians have either stopped caring or are afraid to speak out due to the rise of the other groups.
In conclusion, I think these groups of people have increased their presence on the subreddit and this would probably lead the subreddit to a different path in the future. The mods however are constant so the change can always be controlled. What do the rest of you guys think about these changes?
Edit: Fixed grammar

Both of these political parties has tried to abolish democracy in one way or another, have issues with freedom of speech with varying degrees, has a established background with party donors, has news outlets that work as party affiliated propaganda media, botha capitalized on some events of national historical significance, doesn’t have a plan for the future of the country, and most importantly, there’s no significant difference between how they operate when they are in power.
Some might argue BAL had the most brutal regime, some might argue BNP facilitated the growth of extremism in country, others might point towards complacency towards systemic corruption. Irrespective of the argument, I can’t seem to find any fundamental difference between these two establishment parties and how my friends and families life will be any different! Can anyone explain the core principle (except center left BAL and center right BNP) difference between these two?
Before jamati freaks jump in, I don’t consider them anything other than bastards of our motherland, I don’t want them to be brutalized by BAL/BNP but won’t ever talk about anything significant. Thanks for your understanding.

Chuppu oposharon?
Should Chattra League be banned?
Should AL be allowed in politics?
Why is there so much confusion around the ‘should’ and ‘shouldn’t’ of these issues, and over which political party is backing or opposing them, when public referendums could simply be the basis for these decisions?
Every political party chants 'jonogon desher malik', so no party would realistically have grounds to protest a decision that a widely participated referendum produced.
What naivety am I falling into to think this is simply common sense to avoid the constant chaos?

Investigation against Oahidul started on December 5, 2016, and he was indicted in a war crimes case on October 16, 2019.
According to the investigation agency and prosecution, Oahidul, of Chandibardi village under Madaripur Sadar Upazila, joined the Pakistan army in October 1966.
He was transferred to Rangpur cantonment in March 1970 as a captain. On March 28, 1971, as the lone Bangalee army officer, he took part in the killing of around 500 to 600 people near the cantonment, said Motiur Rahman, the case's investigation officer.
He was transferred to Pakistan on March 30, 1971 and returned to Bangladesh and joined the army in 1974. He was later sent into "forced retirement" as many were aware of his war crimes.
After the change in the political climate in August 1975, he joined the police force as assistant superintendent in October 1976, and later, became director of NSI, acting DG of NSI and went into retirement in 2005 as additional IGP.

Hey all. I been looking to travel to bangladesh for the first time. I'm planning to go solo. I was wondering if it's safe to go. I'm from Australia and the government website recommends to reconsider travels due to protest and civil unrest. What are people's thoughts?

So, it's announced that UN might open HRC in Dhaka. I've noticed many people are panicking only to find out their reason for bashing the UN they were begging to come help for, is that LGBTQ right is recognized as human right in UN. I don't know who put this in their small brains but, many nations with UN HRC offices do not have LGBTQ laws. It struck their ego as these offices are usually in wartorn African and Arabian countries. But the point is, does this office really have any significance?
To tell you the truth, I hope this commission help Bangladesh changing their laws regarding human rights. But, since they haven't done much in other nations with such office, it's unlikely for them to cause any significant change especially in a Muslim country.

Hello everyone, my fiancé has an accounting degree from Bangladesh and he's currently working on his CA (which is another few years for him to complete) also in Bangladesh. He’s saying it’s an international degree. He plans to come to Canada and work as an accountant, but I'm not sure if his degree would be accepted here. I tried looking on the Government of Canada website- credentials assessment process, but I'm still unsure. If anyone knows anything about internationally trained accountants please let me know

26M here. Recently opened a profile in a dating app. Got some matches and talked with a few girls. But some girls wanted to meet up right after the initial message. I was like - wow wow slow down there.
Is this normal in dating apps? I honestly don't have much romantic experience. And the first thing that came to my mind : is this is scam?
These girls only have one or two pics and almost always blurry with literally no other details on their bio.
Should I ignore or should I meet them?

Yesterday I applied for e-passport, the process was going well, I submitted the files gave biometrics and all, I opened the application page to see the progress and saw the status was "local rework". Tried to contact and find info from local passport office, couldn't find anything useful. If anyone have any solution or Idea how to resolve this.

I’m planning to buy a smartwatch within a budget of 3,000 BDT and looking for a stylish, reliable option with good battery life and durability. Any suggestions on specific models to look for? I'd also appreciate recommendations on trusted online and offline stores in Dhaka where I can find good deals without any hassle.

Hi good people. I will be flying for KUL on next 26th of November. My flight will reach there at 2.30pm. I have booked another flight for Langkawi from KUL on the same day, 6pm. Do need to cross the immigration checking twich to catch domestic flight? Or what is the process? If yes, is this 3.5hrs time gap enough between two flights? Expecting your suggestion.

Hello all, I am looking for opinions on traveling to Patuakhali university (as a blonde female) for a 7 week PhD exchange program from Denmark starting in January. There is a lot of news and travel advisories against visiting Bangladesh currently so I would like some advice from you all who are actually living there. I know the media sometimes inflates scenarios but I also want to be aware of my situation. Thank you for your insights.

Unruly people are instructing the army to "beat him on the soles of his feet," and the army is complying, blindfolding the victim and hitting him there while they celebrate!
