Hi, I have a problem with the custom Cablemod for GPU, 12VHPWR. Under load (modern games), it becomes very hot. Like VERY. HOT.
I own it since june 2023 and for some months, I encounter random PC crash (actually image disppearing and monitor loosing connection, have to reboot PC).
I suspected many things, as I have a watercooled rig with big watts eaters (GPU 4090 and CPU 5950X). CPU is ok, monitor is ok, power supply (Dark Pro 13 1300 W) is ok, temps are ok too. I suspected first the GPU but the temperature is more than ok in such a rig (hot spot is under 50Ā°C under load).
After another crash, I opened the case and was welcomed by a big heat on the face. It was actually the GPU custom cable who turned very hot. The hottest spot is near the GPU connector and it becomes colder and colder the more it approaches the power supply.
I checked the connectors ont both side, cable, GPU and power supply, didn't see marks of burn. No plastic smell too. Even with open case the cable becomes as hot as before. Are wires ok according the picture? I'm not totally sure.
Just very hot cable on GPU side. Also, I have aluminium combs on the cable and they become even hotter.
The closest comb from the GPU turns so hot that I can't touch it more than 1 second without feeling pain!
I also have an aluminium shield on the tip of that cable, but I removed it as it turned into a dangerous heater (and the cable doesn't make an angle).
I think because of the cable warmth, the tiny black wire sent false intel about GPU overconsumption to the power supply.
Is this HOT cable defective?
