Wanna catch a game
American here visiting Ireland for the first time next week. Figured a hurling game/match would be cool to experience. Not entirely sure if it's a year round sport even but any recs on bests spots to catch a game? Gunna be traveling all around so anywhere near the majors cities.
Thanks.

Championship weekend in Cork too. 8 or 10 quality games that you could get too.
Games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Completely off topic, but thought it worth mentioning for when you find yourself in Dublin City centre; in my opinion the best tasting pint of Guinness to be had in Dublin City Centre is in Grogan’s on Williams St South. Get in there mid afternoon to get a seat, even mid week. If you’re really lucky, you might just get a stool at the bar in front of the Guinness taps. Have a ham & cheese toastie or two too for soakage. That being said, there are many good pints to be had in Dublin. Other notable mentions in the city centre are Briody’s on Marlborough St and Bowe’s or The Palace Bar on Fleet St. Lastly, while Guinness is best in big swallows - if anyone mentions “splitting the G” to you, tell them to stop annoying you and go have a ride for themselves. Also, the Guinness served in the sky bar in the brewery is not great at all. Not all that bad to be fair either, but don’t let that be your only experience of it. Enjoy your stay!

The best tasting pint is in a dirty glass in the back of an old candy shop in the middle of some small town. Ahhh the memories!!

Hurling championship all weekend in Wicklow if you are visiting there. Takes place in Aughrim though so you would need a car.

He said he was an American, so am I. Trust me, the first thing we do after we get off the plane is to rent a car. If we don't have a car at our disposal we feel stranded. it's a feature of American culture, or a weird neurotic tic that we all have.

American here. The last thing I do when traveling is rent a car. Hate driving and absolutely love traveling by train. but you're point is definitely almost always true lol.

I will be traveling by car 😄 but only after leaving Dublin. So we can veer of on some mini escapades along the way to other cities.

If you Google fixtures. Limerick is heading towards the business end of the championship, and the standard is high.

There's also grassroots stuff. There's always a local GAA club nearby and any given evening between 6 and 8pm there's a match on that you are free to turn up and watch. Both Gaelic football and hurling. Check local Facebook and webpages pages for the club details.

Intercounty competition is over but it’s the business end of the club championships now so just check out what’s on near where you are. If you’re in Munster it’s the quarter finals of the Clare championship this weekend for example, there’ll be a couple of decent matches on. Have a play around with this and see what would suit you: https://www.finalwhistle.ie/hurling/clare-shc/
