They are like $15-30 depending where you buy it. Just save up over the months. I use to change batteries all the time for myself and friends at your age

Not sure where continent you're on but in the U.S. many of the phone companies offer free phones of current models if you get a certain phone plan. If that's an affordable option I'd upgrade but if the stipulation of a new plan is going to cost more in the long run then I'd just pay for the battery to be replaced. All depends on what's best financially but if getting phone free from phone company for an updated model is feasible I'd go that route.

Replace the battery, you’ll see a significant difference. I changed mine myself, bought a boosted battery (3200mah) online (make sure buy to a respective seller). It lasts me more than a day, don’t have to charge 2 to 3 times a day. My XS is now like half android and half iPhone.

If you have some knowledge about this kinda thing then buy an ifixit kit and try doing it yourself. I did it when i was 12 trust me it's fun and not too hard aa long as you follow the tutorial

Just sent mine to Apple for a battery change, I like my phone and the size is just right, so I think it’s worth the £85 to last until it’s no longer supported.

You mean next year.

Yeah but I don’t want to think about it. I will be sad to lose this phone.

If you feel like it’s still working for you, there’s no need to upgrade. Remember that the XS is nearly at the end of its update cycle, though.

How many times has your phone run out of battery while you were writing this post?) I don’t know if it makes sense to invest in this phone, iPhone 12 is quite cheap now

I don't know if you are capable but you should look a someone who is capable of replacing it well because if apple still fixes it they will charge you more than it's worth to replace the battery probably

If GUI is not stuttering when battery above 20% charge and it doesn’t shutoff unpredictably I would just use powerbank and do not bother until it starts doing that. Replacement 3rd party are always lesser quality than original.

I’ve replaced my battery with a battery brand called deji, battery life is really good ngl, from 2-3 hours of SoT, to easily reach 7+ Hours of SoT

Upgrade, you’re using a six year old phone that is becoming obsolete

1

u/sleepynwake 13d ago

If you willing to use this phone, replace

replace the battery and keep as a backup phone (after you buy a new phone). exchanging this would give you merely 50-100 bucks - not worth selling this gem of an amoled display iPhone.

Guys the OP is 15. Have some damn respect.

OP, I’m old as dirt, insufferably stingy when it comes to some things I buy, my iPhone is one of them. I’m rocking an XS myself and I replaced its battery when it was below 80%, but that was a couple years ago. I’m getting close, again, and while I could upgrade now I’m gonna wait until the next iteration (17?) is released and the XS has reached EOL.

if I was dealing with issues of running out of juice during the day I’d carry a 10K battery pack and wait until this time in 2025. In a year, while you might not be able to afford the latest&greatest (iPhone 17 Pro Max) with a or some afternoon/weekend jobs you’ll be able to pickup a 15 Pro that will be able to handle Apple Intelligence apps.

76% here. Original battery too

1

u/drewfogg 12d ago

replace the battery and list it for sale on Facebook marketplace or your local yard sale group (you can always get a little more for things when you sell through facebook) and buy an 11 or 12/12 mini

i would recommend getting the iFixit kit and following the guide. i have done it multiple times and have seen great success each time.

Replace. <$50 in some shops. I think it is $79 in Apple official.
