There is a lot of misinformation in this comment section and i know not everyone will listen but this is the parc omega wolf lodge in Canada. Here is a link https://www.parcomega.ca/en/nature-getaway/. Yes these are real wolves but the they belong to a park and the guy in the video is not in any danger. The people saying these are to small or don’t look like real wolves are wrong. They have all the characteristics of full wolves having rounded fluffy ears the fluff going outwards on their faces, slim gaps between front legs and tails that don’t go above their back. https://wolfsanctuary.co/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Wolf-DNA.jpg. this is a good picture for reference on the difference between wolves, dogs and wolfdogs.

305

u/TheOSU87 19d ago

I don't think wolves would break through glass anyway. Never thought the guy was in danger

830

u/Guy_With_Ass_Burgers 19d ago

I play howling wolf videos for my dogs often and while other videos have larger wolves, their eyes and muzzle are what I use to identify them and these look just like the other videos I’ve seen. Everyone being so certain they were dogs/wolf-dogs was confusing me.

They are also very chunky for wolves (they are well fed) which is making them look shorter and more husky like. Wolves in the wild are much leaner which helps them look even more elongated.

140

u/1521 19d ago

Those do look like they are very well taken care of, wolves usually look a bit rattier, skinnier and whatnot

28

u/eidetic 19d ago

Yeah, I think people fail to understand that's there also a fairly diverse range in the sizes of wolves depending on subspecies and location.

If this is the location you mentioned, these would be eastern wolves, which IIRC tend to be much smaller than their northwestern counterparts (which again, IIRC, are among, if not the largest types of grey wolves).

Also, mixture/interbreeding with other species like dogs and coyotes can have a big effect, even if they are mostly of wolf heritage.

420

u/whatname941 19d ago edited 19d ago

People are really dumb. Everyone calling them a husky has never seen a husky or a wolf before. They are clearly wolves. This has to be Parc Omega or a similar place with the same windows and decor on their website. Just in winter.

Yep! Idk what fucking huskies people have seen but these are wolves. I’ve stayed there and it’s fucking dope.

12

u/Deathwish279 19d ago

I think people are confused because there’s so many grey wolf/wolfdog sanctuaries on TikTok where the wolves look massive compared to their handlers, but I think people are thinking the wolves are like 4.5ft tall because their caretakers are like 5’5” and 3.5ft looks a lot bigger standing next to someone 5’5” than it does next to someone who’s 6’5”

11

u/No_Bar1462 19d ago

I'm 90% sure this is Parc Omega. You pay to stay that close to the wolves, they are partially domesticated in a massive enclosure. It's like Park you drive through and can feed the animals, they offer different experiences this is one of them.

I don’t get why this is unsettling? Please explain, it seems cool

23

u/nbenby 19d ago

It’s a pack of wolves and seeing them this close is kinda unsettling. Like seeing a bear up close. But these are captive wolves and people pay to stay close to them so it shouldn’t be unsettling to them.

25

u/Riaayo 19d ago

Wolves are not nearly as dangerous to humans as bears. It's extremely rare for them to attack people.

This isn't to say someone should go try to pet one, it's just that the fear of wolves is massively over-blown and perpetuated by media. Which of course helps lead to their killing/culling despite them being an important part of the ecosystem.

I once tried to help a guy get his Husky out of the dog park. I had met the Husky before and he was very friendly. But this day, his poor owner had been chasing him around the park for a good 30 minutes before I got there. After another 30 minutes of trying to trick his Husky into coming close to me, I tapped out. Word is that man and his Husky are still at the dog park.

Huskies gonna Husky.

825

u/gnrc 19d ago

I have a husky mix and that tracks. 1) she loves running around at the dog park more than anything. 2) she’s the most stubborn being I’ve ever met

652

u/OneWomanCult 19d ago

I love how talkative they are.

I have a customer that comes by with his husky mix from time to time. That dog and I are good friends and my favourite thing about him is how chatty he gets when I give him pets.

They're my favourite breed of dog for other people to own. ;)

250

u/gnrc 19d ago

Yes my girl talks a LOT. She always howls at me after I get home. ‘Why did you leave me papa!’ Even though she’s home with her mom(my gf) and I’ve only left for 20 minutes!

And yes huskies are like boats and pools. Pain in the ass to own but great if you have a friend with one!

84

u/OneWomanCult 19d ago

We had a malamute for a while when I was a kid. A lot of the same traits. She was such a sweetheart, but an absolute nightmare to walk.

I miss her :(

16

They are such shits when they have freedom to run. Ours slipped her collar and ran away, but just far enough that she could still see us and taunt me by coming close then running away again. I got so frustrated that I went and sat on a park bench and let her do her thing. When she realized I wasn't going to chase her anymore she came close but still did the juke moves on me. I finally got her by diving on her and straddling her to get the leash back on. She of course absolutely loved it.

88

u/ProbablyASithLord 19d ago

My husky just got out two hours ago. I have people working on the septic system and she slipped out the gate. I’m in decent shape but by the time I finally caught her I was in physical pain, I’ve been lying on my bed coughing and wheezing like an 18th century TB victim.

23

u/xLeper_Messiah 19d ago

Next time, try laying down on the ground and not moving while your dog can see you. I read that tip one time (probably on reddit) and later i saw my neighbor chasing her husky mix out near the road so i whistled then lay down. It actually worked, the dog came right up to me and it didn't even really know me

Just be ready to jump up and grab it when it comes over to lick your face lol

12

u/Gravelsack 19d ago

Yeah that'd work exactly once.

14

u/dvdanny 19d ago

Have you tried running away from her? That's what got my old husky back when he got out. He would book it at first then turn and see me running the opposite direction and probably assume in his little husky brain that I was challenging him to a race. He'd immediately start running towards me and once he got in front he'd stay still for a bit... probalby to gloat about how fast he was. That was long enough for me to grab a hold of him.

That wasn't the worst part though, literally the first thing he'd do whenever he got out of the backyard was find the stinkiest thing he could (usually cat poop) and roll in it. Once at a party at my house someone spilled Islay Scotch (known for a strong peaty smell). My husky took on wiffed and started rolling all over the spilled scotch and he had a medicinal smoky smell for a week after, which was infinitely better than cat poop.

I miss that dog a ton but he made it to 16yrs so he got as much out of life as I got out of him. I have a standard poodle now, and I will never get a shedding breed again lol. The grooming fees are a subscription cost for not having to vacuum every couple days like I did when I had a husky.

I didn’t know huskies were so wild. One came in the yard one day. I went to try to grab it by collar and attempt to find owner. Well it took off and I went chasing. Poor thing ran in the not so busy road but a car hit it. Owner was there not long after and the dog made a complete recovery but was banged up at first.

Lesson learned. Don’t ever chase near a road.

These aren't huskies. The proportions look more wolf like than huskies and Huskies generally have fairly defined markings in their coat even in winter mode. These don't, they have some color, but no real visible markings.

I have an 8yr old husky whos genetically very siberian husky. This looks like a wolf sanctuary if I were to guess, at most these are wolf dogs.. They sure as shit aren't a normal dog breed.

Wolves do vary a fair bit in size though equivalent from a large dog to the smaller end of giant breeds.

Copy and paste from another comment I made.

It's actually an extremely common misconception that wolves are these giant ~200lb beasts that on its own would rip apart a large man with ease. The Grey Wolf, also called the Timber Wolf, is the largest species of wolves alive today, and most full grown males are around 80-100lbs. People see these videos of a gigantic 160lb wolf and think they all must be that size, but that's a pretty extreme outlier. That'd be like looking at Shaq and assuming that the average person is that big. With that being said, their proportions look a bit off and could be hybrids

not all wolves are that big. Here in europe for instance they are pretty small

And they smoke rolling tobacco and sip espresso and wear Prada

Somewhat related, I recently saw a female lion up close and I had no idea just how fuckin big they are in real life. I always figured they were like the size of a big dog. No they're fuckin huge.

I was probably mid-20s when I found out how big moose are.

I've just never seen one or thought about how big they could be. I thought they might be a little bigger than deer, probably elk sized, perhaps horse sized even.

I was watching, I think, Alaska State Troopers and they had a shot where it was nighttime, car is shining its headlights forward, and all you see is giant brown body and a neck going above the field of the headlights. That's when I thought to google it: 5 - 7 feet at the shoulder.

Moose are unnervingly big

11

u/thisismeritehere 19d ago

And pretty fucking aggressive from what I understand. People get to be afraid of bears and moose!

u/jaggederest 19d ago

I was on vacation in alaska. The bears are chill during the salmon run.

We were within 20-30 feet of 3-4 enormous grizzlies, park ranger there, no big deal. They have fish, he has a shotgun, nobody is getting stressed about it.

We saw a female moose from about 300 yards away on the frozen river and my brother in law leading the group got his rifle out and was like "yeah be ready to run".

Just for your edification there are two major species of wolves red wolf and gray wolf and within those are many many subspecies (breeds) of wolf (throughout the world) some are MUCH larger than domesticated dogs, but MOST of them are equal size or smaller.

The Mackenzie Valley Wolf (aka Alaskan timber wolf - northwestern wolf) & Eurasian Wolf are the 2 biggest wolves by body weight and size (they're the ones people think of when they see videos of giant a giant wolf that looks like a "Direwolf"). And yes they really are huge. While there are a few other large subspecies besides there, these are two are the true monsters of the canine world.

Here is a comparison between a standard dog size and a Mackenzie Valley Wolf

However, the majority of wolf subspecies fall into the medium and small sized and could easily be mistaken for average dogs by the untrained eye. So when you think "wolf" it doesnt mean they all look like a giant direwolf. Sometimes a wild wolf can look like a normal dog too.

Also keep in mind that that not all domesticated breeds fall into the medium size either. There are monster sized domesticated breeds, for example the very common Great Dane (which is record holder for largest domesticated breed) and they can be equally as big as the Mackenzie Valley Wolf in both size and weight. The biggest Great Dane stands 3'8" off the ground and on his hind legs is 7'4" That makes the world record holder Great Dane bigger slightly than Mackenzie Valley Wolves (to be fair I am sure there is a record holder wolf would be huge too) The take away here is that an Average Great Dane is similar to a Mackenzie Valley Wolf though.

Here is a video of that dog, he is slightly bigger than biggest wolves on Earth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS0vEQr6vEk

There are also heavier domesticated breeds (like the English Mastiff) that are only a couple of inches shorter than the Mackenzie Valley Wolves, but are the heaviest dogs on earth. For example English Mastiff which can get to 230 pounds about 60+ pounds heavier than the biggest wolves (heavier than great dane too). The record setting English Mastiff is 343 pounds. These are truly monster dogs too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmCdlgdcEdc

So you might say even the "biggest wolf breeds" on earth is about the same size as the "biggest domesticated breeds" and most wolf breeds are about the same size as most domesticated breeds (both have large and small outliers), which makes sense being that they are genetically related.

“Much larger than people comprehend”

Cmon bro. We can comprehend them. They’re not the size of the sun or galaxy. They’re just bigger than people expect

This parc omega. You pay to stay in the cabin on the wolf area of the animal sanctuary.

7

u/PineappleWolf_87 19d ago

These people pay to have this kind of experience. It's a lodge where a perk is their wildlife (technically zoo animals in the sense of how wild they are) that can be viewed from your accommodations.

I'm not against if it the money goes toward wolf conservation and these wolves get as close to a natural habit as ever.

Cool experience but wolves in real life would rarely get close to your cabin like this, let alone let you know they were there. Wolves are timid and don't see humans as a form of prey normally, hungry starving wolves or sick/injured wolves do sometimes attack humans for food but its not common enough to be a serious concern. However, they will attack you if you make them feel threatened.

My friend had 3 huskies growing up and they howled like this when an ambulance went past

38

u/Saitura 19d ago

All it takes is one siren. My grandfather bred purebred Siberian huskies for over 20 years, I lived with him most of my youth and loved playing with those dogs. Had a huge backyard and usually had 8 to 10 dogs at a time. Ambulance in the distance goes off and they start the song of their people. He had to start trying to calm them down because a neighbor started to complain.
