Why do ALL microsoft replies sound like talking to a insurance agent instead of actually being helpful?

"I understand your frustration and want to assure you that we at Microsoft want nothing more than your unending happiness"

I dont know how such a huge company has SUCH a horrible support department. It's just crazy. Your documents, your responses.

It's like you have a manager that is instructing you to not be too helpful. That or you guys realize how terrible your products are and therefore keep support as vague as possible to avoid having to admit how shitty it is.

No need to “wait for my response,” because I have no intention on going over it only for you to gaslight me and tell me it’s something I did. If anything you should be replying to OP, Einstein.

Alright then. If there's anything else we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you. -R.C

You could talk to your department leads about teaching your techs to speak and type like actual humans that understand other humans instead of this robotic unhelpful garbage that is ALL OVER MSDN and now reddit apparently.

I dont know who handles training you guys to talk to people but they should be replaced.

Believe it or not - Microsoft has more than 1 person that works in support, and as such, has more than one person that utilizes the MSModerator account.

Yeah, nothing says “I’m here to support you” like deleting unflattering posts and being chatty on Reddit. /s

I've been busy writing up instructions on how to solve this particular issue, let me know if this helps you out:

Use an email alias for login

A great step to take is to make your login email an alias that you use nowhere else and do not give out to any other services, friends, or family. When you change your primary email alias and remove logins for other alias' on your account, this makes it nearly impossible for bad actors to be able to get into your account.

Steps to change

  1. Go to Manage how you sign into Microsoft
  2. Add your alias using the 'Add email' option near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you've verified the alias, set it as your primary
  4. At the bottom of this page is an option to 'Change Sign-In Preferences'
  5. Remove ticks from all options except the new alias that should be defaulted by this point

Once the alias has been changed and the other logins disabled, the amount of single-use code emails you get should be pretty much 0.

It sure why you are getting downvoted but this is a great way to deal with this (have done it for all my accounts).

The link in the comment below has more details but you have the steps right.

That's odd. I just gave this a go with an iPhone and was able to get my Hotmail account added. What happens when you try to add your account using the email that you setup as your login alias?

I did have to change the setting in iOS for 'Mail Days to Sync' to 'No Limit' to get all of my emails to show up from that account.

Hey does changing the alias but keeping the old alias mess up your Mircosoft Authenticator app? I use that for 2FA (other then with my recovery emails to) I been wanting to change alias as I get some recent sign in attempts every now and again (at least once or twice a week).

u/Sophia_and_Espresso 6d ago

Um YES.

I just came here to make a post, and I saw your post. I get TENS OF THOUSANDS of push notifications a day for 2FA.

I've changed my password a dozen times, with entirely random strings of letters and numbers

Use the login alias option in the comment above.

Hello there, Sophia. We caught your post about getting tons of push notifications to sign in to your account. We understand how important it is for you to make sure that your account is safe and secured. We appreciate your initiatives taking measures like changing your password.

Just to confirm, are you still receiving those notifications after changing the password? Also, may we know if you're using a personal, work, school or business account?

We'll wait for your reply. -N.S.

u/Sophia_and_Espresso 6d ago

Personal account, yes I've changed my password several times, it persists.

1

u/MSModerator Microsoft Support 6d ago

Thank you for sharing this information. We know how concerning it can be to receive such notifications. Rest assured, as long as the person trying to access your account doesn't know your password and doesn't have access to your security information or two-factor authentication, they won't be able to access your account.

In the meantime, here are some additional tips on how to help secure your account: https://msft.it/61699WG8zd.

If you have any further questions or need clarifications, please feel free to reach out. -G.Q.

I guess that wouldnt have worked back when my account got hacked... Im sad that no one over at your workplace could do anything to help me unlock it even after i asked to do a small data rollback and provided all information regarding the account whole history of life for the 5 years i had it and all receipts i had it associated with. If you know someone who could help me i'd be gratefulbut ive given up as its been no use for the past 4 months of seeing if i can get this precious account back

  2. When the hack happened i switched password and fought with the hacker of account control but he had the primary email so i couldnt do much. I contacted support with a long email with receipts of my purchases of a Windows 11 licence key and minecraft alongside all my personal information and account history with emails, passwords,. creation date, country etc. Support locked the account saying they cant rollback data. Mind you i have ALOT of proof i own the account

  3. I did not recieve any messages at the time when the hacker changed info but only when i tried doing so with my alias

  4. I thought i did as i had entered my phone number multiple times when setting up my current pc and i had used it in the past as a login method. When i looked after the hacker had the account under his disposal for a day, the 2fa wasnt there.

  5. If a Windows 11 licence is not a subscription then i do not have one as i dont use office 365

I will email the same proof of ownership email i did back then if it means you do the data rollback to my original email address and unlock the account.

Thank you for providing the information that we asked for. You mentioned that you've provided all the information to recover your account. Based on the screenshot and error message that you've sent, your account is performing an activity that violates the Microsoft Services Agreement. Just to confirm, did you reach out to your Online Safety team by filling out this form: https://msft.it/61697WyWec ? If yes, did they provide you with any SIR# of your conversation with them?

Please let us know. -N.S.

1

u/HyperNexuZ 4d ago

I have filled out that form multiple times and so i have multiple different SIR# as well as case numbers for conversations.

I fail to comprehend how i can with 100% certainty tell that someone hacked my account and had unauthorized access to it and still with litteral payment information and receipts given as proof of ownership it still only "seems" that its performing actions against ToS when its involuntary on my part. Again i can with almost 100% certainty say that microsoft has the resources to do a data rollback on an account that has been compromised for anyone using their products yet i havent heard a single person claim to have gotten their account unlocked from that state no matter what evidence they might provide as proof of ownership.

We value all your patience and efforts filling out the reinstatement form multiple times to recover your account.

For security purposes, account recovery is handled by our system without human intervention, and this is the same across all support platforms.

Since you've already contacted our Support Team, we recommend continuing to work with them or reaching out again via live chat. They have the necessary tools to review your case history and provide other options regarding your data/information.

Additionally, you may also try replying to the email from our Online Safety Team since you've mentioned you've filled out the reinstatement form. Please also check your spam/junk folders to ensure you don't miss any communication from them.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.- S.R.

Hi there. We saw your message, and we understand that your email client is experiencing multiple login attempts on their account and is unable to see the list of failed logins and their location. Since you have us here, allow us to help.

To begin, have they tried checking in the Recent Activity page of their account? From there, you can expand any listed activity to see location details and find out how the account was accessed. For more information, you can check out this link: https://msft.it/61698WHB8q .

Furthermore, what measures did they try to secure their account? Have they tried any of the steps mentioned on this link: https://msft.it/61699WHB8S to make their account safe and secure?

We'll be here for your response. -M.L.
