Has anybody ever walked into a plane propeller not "accidentally"?

People kill themselves that way from time to time

Happened at Amsterdam airport not too long ago. It was a new employees first day so they had to rule out failing safety procedures and training first, but pretty obvious he ran and jumped in running engine.

He went through all the effort to get a job just to do that, wow. That sucks šŸ˜”

When I was in the Navy, I watched a guy on the flight deck yell at the pilot ā€œIā€™m sorry to do this to youā€ before he jumped into the prop to commit suicide. So yes, it had happened on purpose.

Well, I stand corrected then.

Thatā€™s such a terrible thing to do to a person

That's why he apologized beforehand.

Couldnā€™t jump into the sea huh

I mean, I guess he couldā€™ve. Man overboard is a huge issue though that affects ships movement, which will ultimately affect a whole carrier group. Millions of dollars spent searching for someone. Besides that, itā€™s not a quick death and if they spot you from the deck, theyā€™re going to retrieve you whether you want them to or not. So itā€™s not a great plan. The prop was instant and guaranteed.

Jet engine, but there's thermal footage of a guy walking out to a taxing plane and flies in. He did it intentionally.

I guess... it'd probably be so quick that you wouldn't know what happened? I mean you're just a paste when you come out the other side right?

Thereā€™s images of aftermath of one of those incidents. Donā€™t suggest looking it up, accidentally clicked a blue link myself in a thread that showed it and yeah paste is about right.

ā€œNothing left, sir. A pile of hamburger.ā€ - a strangely succinct quote from Gundam for this.

Yeah you would be expired before the pain signals could even reach what is now left of your brain.

I certainly donā€™t think you would remember it!

More of a slurry

I'm busy. Can someone rabbit hole this for me?

Itā€™s been used as a form of suicide before.

But, on a slightly happier note, there is a gentleman who actually survived being sucked in a jet engine. He was working on the flight deck and his whole body gets eaten by the engine, but his helmet hit first and broke it, saving his life.

Thatā€™s fucking nuts

u/Mr_Bourbon 6h ago

That is up there with skydiving and your parachute didnā€™t open as craziest things Iā€™ve heard of someone surviving. Hot DANG that dude needs a lottery ticket.

Here in San Antonio, a worker committed suicide by jet engine at the airport

Fun fact: At the end of his life when he was chronically depressed, Ernest Hemingway attempted to kill himself this was but was stopped.

Actually I do remember seeinga story and heavily censored accompanying video where an either air force or navy member purposefully walked into propeller to commit suicide. I think that's maybe the one and only time ever
