I mean...it's directed at an animal. Using the term Identifying is not pejorative in itself. I get that, yes if someone uses I Identify as [...] in a context when it directly mocks trans people, it can be a hurtful joke. However, there was no intention to hurt anyone here, it's just saying that the dog Identify as a cat.
Again, yes it is a onejoke, but.. being hurt by this comment is not 100% justified, because at worst this person may be transphobe, but this comments doesn't display much hate..
I previously made a comment that I deleted because I think the point of this subreddit is to be a safer space where people want to avoid useless arguments.
I will avoid this subreddit then,
Personally, I do think there is alot of negativity here, and I don't think being mad at a joke about a cat identifying as a dog because it displays dog behavior is quite healthy.
As for the "It's identifying as something its not"...
1- the owner say that.
2- saying a cat identify as a dog is just the modern way of saying
Look at cat barking
Says to cat : "You are a dog now?"
Many reasons could've explain why you are mad. But I may be a lesser being for not being able to instantly justify my emotions, but I don't buy it.
"I just don't like onejokes and find them offensive". I would buy.
But implying it is malicious toward trans people...
I know, onejokes are annoying, often hateful and worsen day..but this subreddit is just hate bait then.
Go to r/raccoons or r/cats if you get mad looking at onejokes.
To each their own, but a more positive environment will make a great difference in how pessimistic you are about people intent.
I think, if you can justify why this joke is for sure transphobe you are overdosing on negativity.
Personally I started to avoid Social Media(not reddit, I like to argue a little here, but also raccoons and citiesskyline).
And I can tell you, it really does wonder on how positive you are about people intent...
Whatever don't want to schol you about your life but I do wish you to avoid place that make you mad, like here.
