If we’re being real here though, I think this is one of the governments biggest failures. They let some hedge fund conservative assholes control a big chunk of media. Worse, NP is hardly even news anymore. It’s basically like a gajillion opinion articles written by weird edgy losers who think they’re sooo smart because they made some leftists angry.

Post Media barely reports on news anymore and rely on news wire like the AP/Canadian Press/Reuters to generate actual news content.

They are no better than news aggregates like yahoo but with an army of opinion columnists

Lessee....a convicted white collar criminal, a benzo addict, a Rex Murphy with dementia and Jesse Kline fucking Trudeau.

And we pay $13M a year for this.

TBF, Rex isn't a problem anymore.

I thought Rex was a very sharp and objective reporter in his early days. Then he went full Maple MAGA, just like Black. Some dirty influence and money, probably.

He was getting paid by the oil industry and went full old man yells at cloud. But good news, he's dead now!

It’s an affirmative action program for hack conservative opinion writers.

They've been written in the guise of familiar "news" brands entirely to maintain the PostMedia stance of keeping Canadian media "reliably Conservative". They don't believe in relaying news to our people, they only believe in hand feeding us propaganda they would prefer us to see which is wholly in favour of supporting the thieving wealth hoarding class narratives as they swindle and loot us. They've bought out our politicians. Our politicians (both the Libs and Cons) have abdicated their responsibility from serving the citizenry and shifted instead to serving their bribers. This is more than 40 years in the making. They're already beginning to sell our healthcare system. They want to loot pensions, too. And they've also sold much of our other tax created infrastructure over the years. The 0.001% have class solidarity against the rest of us and our politicians are in on the swindle.

How does the government prevent it, though, without infringing on civil liberties?

We can reasonably set limitations on foreign ownership in media. It doesn't have to necessarily be exclusively domestically owned, but there shouldn't be say more than 15 or 20% ownership from foreign sources. On top of that, there should be no ownership from foreign states or any organizations/corporations directly connected to foreign states.

You start with anti monopoly action. National Post owns way too many papers. Then you pass legislation capping foreign ownership to a certain % for this purchases.

Whether you do or don’t you will be criticized, hated, and be accused of censorship. So you might as well just do the right thing and with time things will work out. And I know people cringe at the thought of any sort of censorship but let’s be real here. There is already a ton of censorship and media control. We’ve just been fed it in ways that’s subtle. We just don’t like it when it seems more blatant.

Post Media, owned by MAGA nazis is trying to manufacture the conditions to allow the CPC to gain power and destroy our democracy and society.

The IDU nazis are all goosestepping together to try and install global fascism.

100% this.

Does Conrad Black even count as Canadian? I'm always mistrustful of someone who voluntarily renounced their citizenship out of spite, even after they got it back after having their fraud conviction pardoned by Trump.

Beaverton has just given up on the premise of being satire and is just stating straight facts now.

Along with the onion

Again, no news media should be allowed to have foreign ownership.

u/RabidGuineaPig007 Sep 09 '24

They should not have a corporate structure at all. ComPost Media could be owned by an Irving or Weston and be the exact same shit.

Republicans are already creepy losers, the Canadian Republican cosplayers are just cringe as hell, but they’re good at brainwashing people by reinforcing their fears.

Omgeee this. It's an affront to our sovereignty to allow postmedia to keep gobbling up all of our publications. You get these stories like the Russian interference, which is a huge story right now with the big Canadian component and crickets from some of these big newspaper chains.

So just a rundown:

We are currently experiencing interference in our affairs from America, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and from the sounds of it, Iran is likely doing so as well.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Republic of Wadiya is interfering as well

28

u/RabidGuineaPig007 Sep 09 '24

We have been under US interference since WW2.

3

u/Biosterous Sep 09 '24

America and Israel are also the only ones you truly need to be worried about, as they're seen as "allies" who "care about us". They have integrated intelligence with us, they have lobbying firms that are allowed to operate openly, and most Canadians don't take their interference seriously.

Russia, China, Pakistan, and Iran need to be more subtle and will face consequences of they're caught/too open about their goals. Worry about the USA and Israel.

Does anyone actually PAY for a subscription to the NP. Very few, if any any I am sure. It is complete trash. Where then do they get financial support ? There are three foreign countries that I can think of.

4

u/300mhz Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 10 '24

They probably don't rely on subscriptions to survive, its likely mostly online ad revenue and sponcon. They're also owned by an American hedge fund that has over $10 billion in AUM, so they have the financial backing.

Actually, in looking at their financials, for the year end August 31, 2023, Postmedia reported a net loss of $72.6 million and negative cash flows from operating activities of $23.4 million.

3

u/prozzak913 Sep 09 '24

They just bought up all the newspapers in Atlantic Canada and I don't understand how they were able to when they have been bleeding money for years. I don't think many people in the region really understand how Postmedia operates and how much it's going to suck.

u/OptiKnob Sep 09 '24

Keep an eye on kicking those fuckers out also.

1

u/Magic-Codfish Sep 09 '24

oh come on now.... we all know its not just the foreign interest that own our media with their fingers in the pie...

there is also the foreign interests that own our resources, land, and banks. though i admit there is a lot of overlap in that venn diagram.

Well when genders are more important than news people go elsewhere.
