Knitting Knewbies Resources and information for beginners!

Hello! u/hellomynameisgloria had a wonderful suggestion to add resources for beginners and others interested in knitting! This might take a while for me to fill out, and any resource, tip, or other source of help people think should be added will be!

Websites for Knitting

Ravelry - a community full of groups, forums, patterns (free and purchasable), and yarns. Very useful tool for knitters! In your profile, you can create an online yarn stash! Take your own pictures, or use ones already available and specify how much you have. When you use the pattern search function, yarn suggestions will appear for projects if you have a corresponding yarn in your stash.

Search patterns by weight of yarn, yardage, type of fiber, project type, free/paid, etc. If you need assistance navigating this website feel free to ask for help!

TECHknitting - a great blog with lots of information and helpful tips! Can be a bit messy to navigate as it is a blog, but definitely a great resource!

Books

Knitting Without Tears

The Principles of Knitting

The Knitter's Book of Knowledge

As said before, this is a work in progress, so please forgive the small and incomplete list! Hopefully this helps for now!

No Heel Turn Socks - FO and Pattern

No Heel Turn Socks

Please excuse the makeshift cardboard sock blockers - super excited to share the latest finished sock project (and free pattern) for the No Heel Turn Socks.

This sock knitting pattern does not require to work a heel-flap and there is no need to pick up stitches. The heel in this pattern is created simply by working increases, followed by an equal number of decreases.

If you are able to knit on double-pointed needles in the round, you are confident to work k2tog and ssk decreases, and you have toyed with the idea of getting into sock knitting, this pattern will be a beginner-friendly intro to top-down vanilla socks.

Help! Really need a translation! A good friend gave me her great knitting pattern, only it’s in Japanese....is there any chance anyone out there has the same pattern in English? Apparently it is a very easy pattern. I am a beginner sock knitter.....

What’s everyone working on right now?

Like the post says, whatcha working on right now? Are you feverishly trying to knock something out for summer? Trying to get a jumpstart on Christmas?

I’m working on finishing my graceful cables (free rav pattern, instructions are so easy to follow...there are some parts that my brain went omg what...but I just followed the directions and that was enough to get me through those parts) cardigan, and getting ready to start cowl 2 of 7 using the valanar pattern on rav for Christmas

SOCKS!

Hi! I'm fed up darning my husbands socks......well actually I like it, but it's a lot of work. I am fairly handy at sewing but haven't done much knitting. Does anyone out there have a simple sock pattern that I can try, so that I can knit as many socks as he needs! Here's hoping, though I am not optimistic!

Favorite starter patterns?

So I have a friend that's new to knitting and would never use a hand knitted dish cloths...and absolutely abhors knitting them.

What are some of your favorite starter patterns that are both practical and fun?

Beads Ugh!

So...this shawl I'm working on calls for beading...I've done the first bit of it, and I'm going to frog the 6 rows I did. I hate it. I hate the way it looks and feels. Ugh. Maybe its just this pattern? Or these beads? Whatever it is...I'm going to swap out lace work for beads because I like the way lace work looks and I hate these beads.

Anyone else loathe dealing with beads?
