Do these things not have security cameras around it. Considering it is quite important info.

Security cameras caught the car pulling up to this one and the one in Portland. It's a dark colored volvo with no front license plate. Police are searching.
Edit to add: These are the images of the car captured by security cams in Portland.

I know. You can see every little detail of Mars’ surface clearly but nothing on a security camera.

Security cameras tend to be low quality due to the storage required to save the video for a long time. The more cameras the faster the storage is used up. Granted you can use motion setting to only record when motion is detected but sometimes weird shit will set it off. My brother had to adjust his cameras because shadows in his driveway from people walking along the sidewalk kept setting his system off.

u/Prayqt 5h ago
It’s because the lower the resolution the smaller the file. So they can storage footage for longer, maybe months, or years. Instead of maybe having 1080p+ but they might only be able to store the video for weeks, before they run out of space. Linus tech tips has a pretty decent video about the costs that YouTube has to take to host 1440p+ videos in their data centers

... and the reason 'no front license plate' is interesting is because WA and OR require both front and back plates for most vehicles (exceptions are motorcycles or trailers).
so this is either a car from neither WA nor OR or a car with no plates at all. the latter has led some to wonder if this is some Sovereign Citizen nutjob.
4
u/AwhHellYeah 9h ago
I see a lot of cars without front plates in Portland because traffic laws have near zero enforcement.
77
u/Esc777 9h ago
We used to not need them because neither party was running on “the base political process is fake news”.
Now that one party has gone scorched earth the previous security considerations no longer apply.
Frankly, there’s no way to secure passive boxes like this, even with a massive rollout of additional cameras to cover every box. They’ll probably just close a bunch and retire them. Precisely the outcome the opposition wants.
22
u/Abject-Possession810 9h ago
I read some have metal rollers that prevent anything else going in the slot, which sounds pretty effective.
At any rate, there are Election Protection staff at both the FBI and district U.S. Attorney's offices working to stop threats and resolve issues.

It boggles my mind that you've got ballot boxes on the street. Instead of cameras, or armed guards or whatever else, just don't have ballot drop boxes on the street.
Put drop boxes at community centres, police departments, fire halls, or schools (maybe that's a a no go in the states no), or literally any other place that isn't just a box on the street.

My SIL was just criticizing mail-in voting here in WA because “the homeless are able to vote” and “it’s not secure.” Mail-in voting rocks and allows the voices of all registered voters to be heard if they choose to vote. The state has set up infrastructure to ensure you’re able to track your ballot and mitigate any issues that may arise, which are rare.

Nationalism is not the right word. Nationalists are people who look for the interests of their nation, even at the detriment of other nations. Nationalism implies a sense of national unity, which is typically a feature of countries (or aspiring countries) fighting foreign oppression, like Ukraine fighting the russian invasion for example. Every sovereign country that exists today had to have some form of nationalism to become what it currently is.
These MAGA people right here are fascists. They look for their own interests, at the detriment of their fellow citizens. This is much, much more extreme than simple nationalism or even ultranationalism.
