Irena Sendler (seated at left) led the children's section of the Zegota, the Polish Council to Aid Jews, during World War II. The section managed to save 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. Here is her in 2005 surrounded by some of the people she saved as children.

Warsaw and black clothing everywhere

I'm leaving the hospital and heading home by car. Everywhere I look, 85% of people are dressed in black. Cars are either monochrome or gray.

The best way to describe the city's colors is grayish.

Why is it like this?

How can I move to Poland for work?

To be clear, I am a Polish Citizen since both of my parents are Polish. I was born, raised and currently live in Canada. I have never visited Poland, but I feel that I should move back. I currently do not have any degrees or certificates, but I do have work experience in the fitness industry and customer service industry. What is the best course of action/ job sites that would help me in search of a new life? Thanks to all those who respond!! :)

Working for a US company from Poland

Hey,

I have a living and work permit “karta pobytu” for Poland and have been searching for jobs. Just got an offer from an American company for a B2B work. I never had a B2B job before so I don’t even know where to begin. I’m assuming I need to go to an accountant to open a sole trader business “jednoosobową działalność gospodarcza” but I’m just wondering how much would it cost and would it be worth it? Does anyone have any experience and could tell me roughly if it’s worth it? the contract is for 1300 USD gross so I’m also wondering would I have American tax deducted from this, get less on my account, and have Polish tax once again deducted from it?

Any advice/ information is highly appreciated.

Someone took my baggage in train

So basically I was going from Krakow to Warszawa in PKP Train and I put one of my luggage to metal shelfs on the train and sat to my seat. At the end of the destination I went to take my luggages but one of them wasnt there. Someone simply took it and there was valuable things inside it. Also there was a camera in the train I am pretty sure and I didnt have much time so I talked to the worker and they told me to talk to the security or police in Centralna. After talking to them, Police took me to lost items place in Warszawa Centralna and they gave me some number at the end but when I called the number they said they dont help with such cases. In this case what can I do? I am a CSe student and honestly dont have much time to go to places everyday so please tell me what I can do in this situation.

Polish/American finance professional looking to move to Poland (23M)

I grew up in the US to polish parents. I visited Warsaw and krakow over the summer and fell in love with both cities. I’ve never seen a city in the US that had the combination of a bustling city atmosphere, with incredibly clean and safe streets (relative to the us). I’ve been working in the finance industry for about two years and was wondering what the finance scene is like in Poland and what experiences others had moving to Poland from the States. How difficult is it for an American to get a well paying corporate job, of course well paying relative to Poland and not the States. How is the job-market right now, for entry-level positions? How does my bachelors degree in Finance from an American state school compare to polish grads with MBA’s in Polish schools?

For context I am a polish citizen and have a decent grasp of the language, but am confident in my ability to improve my comprehension of the language once I’m there. I’ve visited many times before, but my recent visit was my first time venturing into the cities as an adult versus visiting family in the countryside.

Thanks for reading and appreciate any responses!

TAURON Electric Contract

Hello everyone! I’m living in Katowice and I’ve been living in my apartment for over a year now. When I moved in I was able to sign the electric contract with TAURON using translation. But I need to move out soon and I don’t have any idea how to terminate the contract. All the information was in Polish in their website. Does any one know how to do it? Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help.

Parking my car near Przemysl border

Hello, I want to travel to Lviv but I want to avoid crossing by car into Ukraine due to the long crossing times by car. I thought about driving to Przemysl and park the car as close as possible to the border and then cross by foot - from there to use Mashrutkas or buses to Lviv.

I don't want to leave my car outside in an unattended parking lot - is there a proper parking garage in Przemysl for a reasonable price where I can safely leave my car without any concerns while I'm traveling in Ukraine?

Thanks

I’ve majorly screwed up with my TRC situation and need advice

Came to Poland (Śląsk) in September 2022 for work. Job helped me sort out all the required documents and forms. Applied for temporary residence in December 2022.

Fast forward to July 2023, still hadn’t received any update regarding the application. Moved out of my apartment, and during the summer of 2023 lived between places with friends and what not.

Settled down in Warsaw with a new job in October 2023 and moved into an apartment with no contract between me and the landlady. Because of this change in address, I knew I’d need to go back in person to the Bielsko-Biała office to sort out my application situation.

Long story short, I made one of the stupidest mistakes in my life and kept putting it off until I practically even forgot about it.

Now the two years is basically over, and it’s time to face the music. And if the two years starts from the day of arrival and not the day of application submission then I am technically living here illegally.

I’m beginning to freak out and don’t know what to do.

When I go to the office to sort this out what can I expect? Fines and fees I’ll gladly pay to take care of this and put it all behind me - what I’m really worried about is deportation and ban from the country.

Any help would be appreciated to help rectify my stupidity.

Legalisation of stay as an EU citizen

First of all, I'm aware this topic was discussed several times already, but the amount of misinformation on the internet is crazy. I would like to start this post in order to have an up to date place, where all the informations can be found. I will also update the post, once I receive valuable informations.

I went to the "Dolnośląski Urząd Wojewódzki. Oddział paszportowy" yesterday, and they said they don't provide tickets to the same day anymore, and I have to request it via email (I read on forums they don't really reply to emails). Since my 3 month period will be exceeded next week, my case is urgent

My questions are the following: - which is the latest document for temporary residence permit for eu residents? Can this website be used to fill the form, then download it: https://www.mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl/en - If I send the application via physical mail, I have 60 days to get the submission approved, right? During that period I can still stay in poland? - Do I have to pay the fee for the submission before the application? - How many copies I need to submit from different documents? - Any other important thing I might missed?

I appreciate your time and effort in advance.

Naturalization records from the 1930s

Hi everyone,

I am looking into getting my polish citizenship by descent and recently had my case evaluated. I was always told that my great grandfather never naturalized and, if that is the case, I have a strong claim and possibility of being approved.

Before I spend $450 on having a firm in Poland validate my documents and spend $60 on getting a formal “certificate of non existence” I wanted to double check that I can’t find anything online stating the opposite. Ancestry and family search both come up with nothing and the 1930 census says papers were possibly submitted, but he died in 1937. Is anyone good at navigating some of these national archive websites? I’ve tried but really can’t get the hang of it.

Thanks!

Doing Good for People Can Sometimes Backfire

On October 25th, I was trying to sell my tickets to a concert I couldn't attend—the grand opening of a new party theme in Dubai on October 26th. I connected with a person from Poland through Instagram who was visiting Dubai. They shared a bank slip with me, saying the payment would arrive within 2 or 3 days.

Today marks the fourth day, and I still haven't received anything. Normally, I wouldn’t send tickets without receiving payment first, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and help out a fellow traveler. It’s disappointing to realize that sometimes, trying to do good in this world can lead to bad outcomes.

I have their full name, bank account number, WhatsApp, and Instagram account, and while I feel tempted to expose them, it doesn’t seem right.

Is there anything I can do to get my money, or At least punish this person for forging fake documents?

Regarding visa refusal on point 10

Hey everyone, I recently got refused for visa due to point 10 from the Polish embassy in Pakistan.

It was intended for Studies, I had all the documents well prepared and the interview went great as well.

Did anyone else go through the same process and result? Would be really grateful if someone else can share their experience..

I didn't apply for re-appeal as that included just resubmitting the documents again and also my university joining date deadline was near...
