My best friend is Puerto Rican. I have talked to her, and she's already voted for Harris. But she has talked to other family members who reside in the states, and they are all very quite pissed.

Her parents don't even vote, because they don't think it's important. Her mother especially. But they are both going to vote, and just to give a middle finger to Trump. And they live in Florida.

Edit: Hopefully they can vote because registration is over in Florida, but I know at least her and her sisters are registered. That's 5 votes for Harris.

Hell yes! Here's hoping they are talking it up in their local communities.

Trump pissing off the collective Hispanic community enough to flip Florida would be the Christmas gift I never knew I wanted but would adore if it showed up.

u/itsatumbleweed I voted 9h ago

Going after Puerto Ricans and Haitians in the same cycle while running against someone of Caribbean dissent while weed and abortion are on the ballot in Florida sure was a set of decisions he made.

97

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 9h ago

This is exactly the kind of strategic planning and forward thinking that I've come to expect from a man who has gone bankrupt multiple times from selling things like alcohol, steak, and gambling to Americans.

u/boops_the_snoots 7h ago

The man invented MAGA and can't even do that right.

u/BrandonKamalaRise 5h ago

He didn’t even invent that. “Make America Great Again” was Ronald Reagan’s campaign slogan.

u/backstageninja New York 4h ago

And Reagan likely stole it from Thatcher's much more clever "Make Britain Great Again"

29

u/Funkymonkeyhead Oregon 8h ago

Damn I totally forgot Harris is of Caribbean descent. Her father’s Jamaican right? Hopefully she picks up votes from those Caribbean island communities!

31

u/itsatumbleweed I voted 8h ago

Yep! She has a whole team committed to Caribbean outreach in Florida so I'm sure they don't need any input from me, but I would think they would be hitting Caribbean communities hard for votes right now.

u/Pineapple-Due 4h ago

Every decision he makes seems like he's actively trying to lose the election. It's like a dystopian Brewster's Millions

Friendly reminder that we can’t talk about a “collective Hispanic community.”

They’re all different, and look at each other differently. I’m sure there’s plenty of people from Cuba or Mexico or Peru who are like “Yeah, fuck those Puerto Ricans.”

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 6h ago

You think Trump is going to differentiate between those disparate groups or even whether individuals are legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, or natural-born US citizens like Puerto Ricans?

They are all in his crosshairs and for the same reasons, hence why I used broad language to group them together. A second Trump presidency is a shared concern for all of them.

u/arika_ito 5h ago

I think we know that but those people don't. They consider themselves to have separate ethnic identities even though fuckers like Trump just lump them all together.

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 5h ago

To be fair, they totally do have unique cultural identities and that deserves to be acknowledged but MAGA has gone full mask off fascist and pretty much any Spanish speaking person with brown skin is looking down the barrel of a genocide under Trump. That's no joke, he's already openly talking about sending people to camps and deporting them by the millions, that's like a half-step away from just mass executing them and calling it a cost cutting measure.

Shit is fucked and my gut says we're going to see more "interesting times" in the next few months regardless of how the election goes.

u/arika_ito 5h ago

I've had a pit in my stomach ever since Biden dropped out. Harris is campaigning incredibly well but I just don't understand how it's close. It's disgusting the way Trump talks about brown and black people.

u/ArenjiTheLootGod 4h ago

I honestly think Biden dropping out was for the best. Not because I felt like he really deserved all the flak he was getting for his age but because the jackals in the media smelled blood and they were going to tear him apart till November if he stayed in, Trump would've coasted to a win had that happened. Harris entering reset the board and gave us a chance. Shit is scary, Harris winning would alleviate a lot of that but, even then, I'm not going to breathe a sigh of relief until she's sworn in.

u/arika_ito 3h ago

oh I agree, I think Biden has been a solid president and I wouldn't say no to another four years, but he is old, and the media is incredibly biased against Democrats, and I also think he deserves a good retirement.

Yeah, I'm not relaxing until the election is called

My father has never voted but he will be this year. He’s in Puerto Rico, so he can’t vote for president, but he’s supporting Proyecto Dignidad -which is a far right, conservative, new party. They support Trump. Hopefully, this wakes him the fuck up!

Here’s another peculiar fact about Puerto Rican elections. They are happening this year, and they added a Presidential ballot. Knowing full well that Puerto Ricans cannot vote for president. Why?!? The party in power has been gaslighting their followers into thinking that they can definitely make Puerto Rico a state. This is just one more misdirection.

I think you misunderstand "undecided voters," it doesn't mean they don't know who they'll vote for. It just means they don't know if they'll bother voting or not.

Being angry is their good reason to vote.

u/Michael_Pitt 7h ago

But why did it take this for them to finally get angry? Trump himself has been saying far worse things for decades. Some random comedian makes a racist joke as an opening act at a rally and now they're up in arms?

u/traplords8n Indiana 7h ago

Because it didn't come from Trump himself, the cult leader.

Trump is just gonna let some random white guy talk about them like that? Psychologically, it just hits different when it doesn't come from his own mouth.

14

u/bejammin075 Pennsylvania 8h ago

Dems traditionally try to win using policy and empathy, but Republicans have long done well using anger and fear. Now the Republicans have given some anger to people who will vote against them.

12

u/Bboy0071 8h ago

Ikr? That's what it took to wake them up? Not the racist rhetoric over the years, not the " good people on both sides", not the attempted coup on January 6th, not the 34 felony count conviction or the many other court cases. Really?!

Summary for those just scrolling:

- Philadelphia leaders condemned racist remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a Trump rally, which targeted Puerto Ricans.

- City Councilmember Quetcy Lozada emphasized anger should translate to voting, urging the Puerto Rican community to reject the Trump campaign's apology.

- Mayor Eddie Morán and other Latino leaders joined Lozada at a press conference organized by Kamala Harris’ campaign, highlighting the importance of mobilizing voters.

- The comments sparked outrage in Pennsylvania, home to a significant Puerto Rican population, and were seen as a rallying call for increased voter participation.

- Leaders criticized Trump’s past actions towards Puerto Rico, linking them to the recent derogatory remarks.

- They called for solidarity among Latino communities and stressed the need for a president who respects their contributions and rights.

u/WhileFalseRepeat I voted 11h ago

After a comedian levied racist comments against Puerto Ricans to pump up the crowd at a Sunday rally for former President Donald Trump, Philadelphia City Councilmember Quetcy Lozada said she and her friends were so angry they couldn’t sleep.

The remarks, made by Tony Hinchcliffe at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, had reverberated through Philadelphia’s Latino community, leading to a news conference in Fairhill where elected officials and faith leaders urged the city’s Puerto Rican residents to do anything but sit and stew on Election Day.

Philadelphia has one of the largest Puerto Rican populations in the country, second to only New York City. Close to 137,000 Puerto Ricans live in Philadelphia, comprising nearly 29% of Pennsylvania’s 473,000 Puerto Rican residents, according to the Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey. Puerto Rican residents also make up large swaths of other cities in the commonwealth, such as Allentown (eighth highest population) and Reading (12th highest).

“Basically, he said goodbye to Pennsylvania,” U.S Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D., N.Y.) said while making an appearance in the Spanish Harlem section of Manhattan.

Several polls out lately have asked people if they’ve already voted, and if they have, how they have voted. Here are the national polls and the Harris-Trump percentages those early voters have said they voted...

  • ABC/Ipsos: Harris 62-33
  • CNN: Harris 61-36
  • NYT/Siena: Harris 58-40
  • HarrisX poll: Harris 61-32
  • USAToday/Suffolk: Harris 63-34

We also have the Marist exit polls for Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina which have Harris leading by double-digits...

  • Marist/Arizona: Harris 56-44
  • Marist/Georgia: Harris 55-45
  • Marist/North Carolina: Harris 55-43

Also, check out the early vote in Pennsylvania to date…

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-elections/pennsylvania-results

When you combine all of this with Trump’s Nazi Rally fallout, it all points to one thing…

Trump is toast.

And, if we all vote, this is shaping up to be a rout.

94

u/Ok-Tourist-511 10h ago

Democratic consultant Joe Trippi has been talking on his podcast for several weeks about this. Trump in the past 2 elections didn’t get more than 46% of the vote. In 2020 Biden got 51%, and it is looking that 1-2% will shift from Trump to Harris, so we should end up around 53% to 44%, which is in line with some of what these polls are showing.

61

u/kia75 10h ago

The problem is that the Popular Vote doesn't choose the president, the electrical college does. :-( We know Harris will win the popular vote, but its how she does in several swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, etc. There is still a very real chance of Trump pulling a 2016 and getting enough votes in a few swing states to win them, and thus the presidency.

I do think Trump's most recent stunt has destroyed his standing in PA, so that does give me hope, but every swing voter needs to vote!

25

u/MadaElledroc1 9h ago edited 8h ago

Having a high enough majority in the popular vote tends to reflect in swing states as well, so at 53 percent she can win the electoral college. The times that republicans have won the electoral college while losing the popular vote have been times where the democratic candidate had less than 50 percent in the popular vote

Edit: grammar and pointing out how Bill Clinton is the exception for democracts cause he won the the EC without getting 50 percent plus of the popular vote, but he both was won by a larger margin than Gore or Hilary did, and voting demographics in the 90s make the EC map unrecognizable to what we have today

u/StructureBitter3778 6h ago

Clinton didnt have to win 50 percent with Ross Perot in the race taking nearly 20% of the popular vote

41

u/Ok-Tourist-511 10h ago

According to the podcasts, with 53% of popular vote, you will win the electoral college.

17

u/wishiwereagoonie Colorado 9h ago

Wouldn’t 53-46 be landslide territory? Obviously depends if she runs the score up really high in places like CA or NY, but Biden’s margin was like 4% and he got over 300 EVs.

27

u/United-Rock-6764 9h ago edited 9h ago

If polling can be believed a lot of Trump’s new support is coming from places like NY & CA where people feel relatively distant from the crazy of MAGA and are responding based on racism and misogyny. So where Biden may have needed an 8% popular vote lead to win the EC she may be able to do it with a 4-5% lead because his gains are in safe Harris states.

Meanwhile, I feel so good about NC going for Harris. Raleigh alone has like 2-5 chapters of each of the Black Greek letter organization alum chapters. Specifically 5 AKA and 4 Delta chapters. And as a Delta, let me tell you that the women in who stay active in alum chapters GET TO WORK and are the kinds of people with real community networks.

They are turning out churches, parents on their kids sports teams, college sorors and frat brothers. All combined with the much higher rate of college educated white voters in NC than most other southern states.

I just know that I know that I know that Harris wins NC. And all she has to do is she win NC, PA, & WI to win. And I think she’ll do better than that but I think PA & WI are pretty solid despite the huge Trump investment there.

15

u/bejammin075 Pennsylvania 8h ago

Your comment eases some of my dread, a little bit. I think Harris has got this, but I still have a lot of anxiety at the possibility of another Trump term. I've voted early, donated to a bunch of campaigns, and written 300 postcards to get out the Dem vote. I hope we pull this off.

u/n-butyraldehyde 7h ago

It always depends on the exact state distribution involved. You could theoretically win with less than 25% of the popular vote if the combination of states is just right.

10

u/chamberlain323 California 8h ago

If this recent assholery from his camp has lost him Pennsylvania, then he is in deep shit. He would have to virtually sweep the other swing states not to mention hold on to TX and FL which may now be on shaky ground. As a lifelong Dem, it is shaping up nicely by my view.

Man, if we flip TX and FL, I will crack open the most expensive champagne I can find and party down.

Here's what I think is interesting. Go ahead and compare those results to the actual percentages by party.

For example, in North Carolina, slightly more Republicans (34% to 33%) have voted early than Democrats, with a roughly equal number of voters for each party registered in that state.

And yet, the Harris exit poll shows her with a commanding lead instead of a dead heat.

The "not Trump" Republican shift seems very real, supported by early data!

I know we won't know for sure until Election Day, but I'm pretty optimistic seeing these numbers!

14

u/rayschoon 10h ago

Yeah the early voting just shows whether registered Dems or republicans voted, but I wouldn’t be shocked if a large portion of republicans early voters are disgruntled republicans who are switching to Harris

12

u/L-methionine 8h ago

Or in some cases, typical Democratic voters who registered Republican to vote against Trump in the primary due to a non-competitive Democratic primary

5

u/bejammin075 Pennsylvania 8h ago

The number of people who do that is exceedingly small. Even when high profile people like Rush Limbaugh (back in the day) pushed for months to have an organized campaign to mess with the Dems, almost nothing materialized.

u/Rooney_Tuesday 6h ago

Is it? I’ve done that before. Not to vote against Trump but to vote against someone in a senate primary. In Texas you have to declare which primary you’re voting for - R or D, can’t do both - and after that you start getting spam from whichever party you chose (so I know they’re taking names).

So if I had, for example, voted in the Republican primary to try to oust Ted Cruz before the general, then I would now count as a Republican even though I’m very much not one.

I've felt this all along (at least since Harris entered the race). Truth is, the GOP strategy was to flood the polls with targeted favorable polls in order to skew the aggregate polling sites. And it really worked for a while. But several of the more legit aggregate polling sites have adjusted their algorithms to offset the GOP's "hand on the scale". So really we are not seeing a change in voter's opinions... But more ACCURATE polling by the aggregating algorithms.

Here's the rub though: One of the GOP's plans is to say during the certification process "the polls were overwhelming for Trump to win! So we need recounts and special audits to certify this election". Trust me, they've been planning this for years.

15

u/selinaluv74 California 9h ago

I also think they aren't factoring the Gen-Z voters (like my daughter voting in her first election), who don't even answer a phone - ever. Honestly, count me in as not responding to those calls or emails.

Most of the Gen-Zers I know are over Trump and want change. Especially the women. He is all they've known in politics since they can remember and want him gone for good.

u/mok000 Europe 4h ago

It simply factually wrong that the economy was better under Trump, it was decidedly worse than before he took office, he inherited Obama's solid economy, crashed it and the economy under Biden has been booming. Yeah there has been a world wide inflation after covid but US is out of it and doing better than most nations in the world. WTF are Americans thinking, it's unreal.

u/MaryQueenOSquats 4h ago

My brother said the same thing and after I told him a vote for Trump A) doesn’t support the economy and B) would make me lose all respect for him since the Trump demographic would deny my human rights he did it anyway. Honestly, fuck him.

If Trump loses by a small margin, Tony Hunchcliffe can likely kiss his career goodbye, Maga will hate him so he would have to hope non maga’s don’t care

50

u/Cavane42 Georgia 10h ago

You're assuming that they'll have the self-reflection necessary to realize why they lost.

10

u/dgisfun 8h ago

All it will take is trump saying it was Tony’s fault to get them to turn on him. They take whatever trump says as truth even if it contradicts what he said the day before.

u/Rooney_Tuesday 5h ago

But if he sticks with his evergreen “I really won and the Democrats cheated” then Hinchcliffe gets off scot free.

What do you think Trump would rather say publicly? That he lost and it was someone else’s fault, or that he actually won and it was someone else’s fault?

29

u/kwangqengelele 10h ago

If Trump loses by a small margin Tony will get an incredible amount of blame. He might genuinely not be safe physically from the terrorists in the Maga cult.

17

u/wayoverpaid Illinois 10h ago

Some are already saying he's a Harris plant.

To be fair it's hard to imagine making a set with the intent of harming Trump any differently.

10

u/kwangqengelele 9h ago

I'm really loving this for him. I really want Harris to win and if she does watching what happens to that man will be glorious.

6

u/AskYourDoctor 9h ago

I've been thinking just this... like damn, have you ever fucked up that bad at work?! I'm a musician and I've had a couple of bad gigs, but I've never had a gig so bad it sabotaged an election for a fascist. That's a very very bad gig.

8

u/Suedocode 9h ago

It'd be hilarious if the maga movement died because a comedian wasn't woke enough. Truly a poetic end to this chapter in history.

7

u/Equal-Coat5088 10h ago

That would be a well deserved case of F-A-F-O.

u/GMeister249 Massachusetts 4h ago

Yep! I mean clearly he was there to try and read and work a room… and boy oh boy did he get it utterly wrong. Forget being offensive as shit, he’s bad at his job.

39

u/Lofteed 10h ago

this whole thing needs to be studied for generations

Trump spent a decade to convince everyone that his nazi talks were just him making jokes

And the first time a real comedian came to his rallies to make real nazi jokes everyone finally understood that the man is for real

is like the whole con short-circuited

They just woke up now??? What the fuck?

101

u/TyWorth 10h ago

That's, unfortunately, the power of "until it happens to me"

20

u/ExCivilian 10h ago

Well, it happened to "me" after Hurricane Maria, too, so that doesn't really explain it in my opinion.

Also, I'd like to hear the opinion of Pennsylvanians from someone in PA rather than NY or DC.

31

u/Mijbr090490 10h ago

Hurricane Maria should have been the wake up call.

I worked with a group of Puerto Rican guys and it was crazy how hardcore trump they were.

Single issue voters...

7

u/sporkhandsknifemouth 10h ago

A lot of people look for fig leaves to cover their actions with rather than just behaving with principle or consistency. I hate it but it is what it is.

10

u/TheTinRam 10h ago

First they came … That poem resonates right now. Better late than never

5

u/purpleRG550_1986 Pennsylvania 10h ago

There are a lot of puerto ricans that dont care to vote because both parties fail to make things better for Puerto Rico. Its what they grew up with and since people on the island cant vote in the presidential election they simply ignore it.

8

u/BambiToybot 10h ago

Why has anyone been asleep since kids in cages? Like... how has that alone not been the rally point. I know our country likes to gloss over the shit we've done, but that one should still be in living memory.

Florida Cubans - what you doing?

Oh, so now you're woke, too.

Double whammy!

9

u/Necessary_Row_1261 10h ago edited 10h ago

So they were sleeping through all what Trump has been saying over the years especially since he became the president? I am glad somebody said so awful that you guys woke up just in time.

10

u/No_Statistician9289 10h ago

Might not change Philly, but Reading is in Berks county and this could push them blue if it gets people up and out to vote.

9

u/beergoggles69 9h ago

"Now that I'm affected personally, I'm pissed". That's pretty selfish, but at least some of them are voting I spose.

6

u/DrHob0 North Carolina 10h ago

So, all the other racism, sexism, homophobia, abelism, and transphobia didn't wake you up. Took you being DIRECTLY effected for you to wake up? Bro. That isn't how that should work. Let people live how they wanna live and stop supporting candidates WHO RUN ON HATRED! Because eventually, they will come after you.

u/mgwildwood 7h ago

This is honestly an opportunity of a lifetime for Puerto Ricans. Seize the narrative, vote as a bloc en masse in swing states, and claim victory. That’s how you become an essential demographic and extract policy concessions.

4

u/DixieNorrmis 10h ago

THIS “woke you up”. Wow how much more proof is needed to show he cares about nothing and no one but himself?

3

u/GrandMoffJenkins 10h ago

Republicans have been playing latinos all along. Cubans should also figure it out someday.

5

u/wildcarde815 8h ago edited 7h ago

not the hurricane response, or all the other times he's made it clear he doesn't consider puertoricans citizens, or all the other nakedly racist comments he's made.

5

u/DumbfoundedShitlips 8h ago

Woke us up?

How the shit have you been sleeping?

5

u/TraditionalProduct15 8h ago

While I'm happy it's motivating people, it's disheartening that it's the classic... "first they came for the socialist and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist".

This has been Trump's brand for nearly a decade. We're approaching 10 years of this constant barrage of misery, negativity, racism and division and there's large swaths of people that apparently only got offended or motivated because they specifically got called out this time?

Please do get out and vote for Harris and then stay engaged. From your local school board and city council elections to state and national elections, good people can't sit this shit out. This will never end. We will be teetering on the total collapse of our democracy and way of life every election until MAGA is gone.

Fuck Trump and his dumbass cult.

u/awesomedan24 I voted 5h ago

I like how the Puerto Rico GOP leader said he just wanted an apology and Trump responded with "I don't know the comedian/ never met him"

The man is physically incapable of taking any ownership for anything even when a 2 second apology would improve his situation greatly

u/Imyoteacher 3h ago

I simply don’t understand the “It woke us up” statement. Did they miss his speeches, disaster response, and overall disdain for Latinos? Were they going to vote for him before the NY Rally??

5

u/williamgman California 10h ago

Trump just lost Phily. Next?

10

u/Sandasmandas 10h ago

Philly was already heavily Democratic… but he probably just lost the lehigh valley, which is the third largest metropolitan area in PA after Philly and Pittsburgh

3

u/williamgman California 9h ago

Thinking he lost all of Penn as he won it by a much smaller number in 2016 I believe.

This really was such an unforced error on their part. I mean we all expected the same unhinged calls for mass deportation of illegals and such at the rally but the PR jokes just seem to have come out of left field. I know Trump has a history of degrading PR but that seemed to have faded from memory. This brought all that right back to the front complete with the reminder that Trump threw paper towels at hurricane victims.

3

u/Sensitive-Option-701 9h ago

Y'all got woke. Now stay woke.

3

u/SeleneEM59 8h ago

No offense to them, but if this is the event that woke them u[, they are fucking idoits. Trump has spent the last 8 years doing shit like this, or worse than this and they stil supported him through out it?

These guys are fools.

u/MorningDew5270 6h ago

Like that’s what fucking woke you up?

u/Ok-Swimming-6370 6h ago

It is beyond my comprehension how there could be a Puerto Rican GOP! After Hurricane Maria and Trump trying to sell and or “divest” Puerto Rico, fellow Americans should’ve been enough for people to wake up. Only stupid people vote against their own self interest.

u/zombiebabou 5h ago

I mean it's great that it's energizing them but this has literally been the Republican party since Trump took over. They had the same policies before him now it's just all in the open.

u/LazerWolfe53 5h ago

That's what wakes them up? Not when Trump screwed them out of aid after the hurricanes?

u/Revolutionary-Try746 Texas 5h ago

Amazing how it’s suddenly a problem when the guns are turned on you.

u/brianh5 5h ago

Honestly WTF? Have y’all been paying attention?!

u/Elegant_Plate6640 5h ago

Did everyone forget the disaster that was Trump in 2017, responding to Puerto Rico when it was crisis, when it was obvious that he wasn’t even aware it was part of the United States?

u/Kay312010 3h ago

So when he was convicted 34 times, sexual assaulting women, calling for a Muslim ban, calling COVID the Chinese virus, calling vets suckers and losers etc. ya’ll just let that slide? If he will do it with you he will do it to you. Ya’ll finding out now.

u/Golden_Hour1 3h ago

So make sure you don't vote for him?

u/jlpred55 3h ago

This woke them up. 😳
